Not really...Gonzalez didnt play poorly and he can play with a busted nose. Gonzalez is a better defender than Ream.

But can someone please explain why Ream would be selected over John?

Cleary Bob/Klinsmann/Ives/S.Davis and a lot of you see Ream as a better option (presumably waaay in the future) than John. Why? Please explain in detail.

    Re: Roster for Mex

Answer: Because this is Klinsi's first roster selection and he can't call all the players he wants and needs to vet in one call-up. Others will be called in future - Gonzalez likely among them...

So your saying he's starting at the bottom of his prospect list?

I always said that despite Ream's defensive lapses any European coach would DROOL at a prospect like Ream over George John and Gonzalez. Simply because of his composure and passing he offers alot more options tactically than a John or Gonzalez.

Low and behold I was right.

Who really knows? All we know is he didn't get called today. One of those guys that did get called in his position I have a personal feeling won't be a major part of the set-up for long (Orozco).

    Re: Other tactical options
If/when Omar gets better accuracy on his headers, he could be a huge scoring threat. He's excellent at getting to the ball in the opponent's box, but needs to hit the target more consistently.

    John lacks composure?
Do you even know what Ream's passing completion percentage is? Johns?

For me Orozco is the biggest head scratcher of the group. He didn't impress me at all with the Union.

But hey, if Klinsmann wants to take a look at him.............then why not? Now's the time..........

There were a number of "surprises" (ie Beasley, who I did not expect to see), but Orozco is the only real head-scratcher. I doubt it will last, though, and if it does, then maybe the past is the past and I was wrong about him. But yeah, he did NOT look good in MLS at all.

No better time than the present for Klinsmann to get his head-scratching pet theories out of the way. He's bound to have a bunch, some good, some puzzling.

It doesn't matter what *we* think about John, Gonzalez or Ream. It matters what the coaches think... and apparently both Bradley and Klinsmann rates Ream over Gonzalez and John at this point. Don't make it personal.

I for one would love to see John called up along with Gonzalez instead of Orozco.

    Re: Roster for Mex

Personally, I think JK wants to cast as wide a net as possible over the next couple of months (or even 6 months) until we start WCQ and Olympic Qualifying, and I'm not really going to worry about his callups until next year or if he calls the same guys in for the next 3-4 games. I think he wants to see as many guys and combos as possible, and I think he will with Costa Rica, Belgium and possibly Ecuador in October. I think this match provided extra problems because he had a week, a lot of Euro leagues start right before or right after, and it's Mexico. I think if we weren't on a 3 game losing streak to them, he might have even left some of the guys he did call up (Howard, Dolo, Jones) off too and left them in Europe.

Cleary he is starting at the bottom (with his MLS callups)….I had assumed Orozco was an American abroad I was unfamiliar with lol -PAUSE

    What you say makes sense...
I would prefer it wasn’t against Mexico but I suppose it’s to the benefit of those players chosen because If they show well he wont still have an itch on his head wondering if it was because of the competition. If they stink it up he can scratch them off the list and cant be accused of not giving them their shot.

Really disappointed at the MLS representation as % of total and the players selected from LS with the exception of Donovan and maybe Ream.

Seems like Klinsmann will also heavily prefer YA's with no accomplishments (except being YA's) and younger MLS players over proven MLS stars... well he did throw in Pearce and Beckerman, but IMO there are better MLS vets.

Examples: Agudelo, who doesn't even start on Red Bulls, over Wondo. Castillo, Chandler, Orozco over John, Dunivant, Gonzalez. Adu and Torres over any American in MLS (maybe try G Cameron)

Though I am interested in seeing the YAs I feel like this is the type of game that deserves the best players, and the best players deserve these games.

    Re: Roster for Mex

Orozco IS a YA playing in Mexico. When Bob and Co. were calling him in for his first USMNT caps (actually I think just one senior cap... against T&T IIRC) and the Olympics, he was down in Mexico. Then he played a season in MLS for Philly, and is now back in Mexico. It seemed that Bob took a good look and decided to pass (and for once, almost none of us in the peanut gallery complained about that!), and now Klinsi's taking a good look as well. I'll be surprised if he doesn't pass in the end, too.

Perhaps Klinsi envisions him as our Matthias Sammer.

    Re: Roster for Mex

    ---------Total------------------
    Ream
    - 85% (736/868) 15 games
    John - 83% (488/587) 19 games
    Gonz - 76% (582/764) 18 games

----% of games with 90%+ passing----
    John
    - 32% (6/19) vs SJ,RSL,KC,DC,POR,COL
    Ream -13% (2/15) vs SEA,TOR
    Gonz - 11% (2/18) vs CHIV,TOR

This was 2 or 3 games ago, since then John had another 90+ % game vs Chivas.

Im sick of those who imply that Ream is the only player in the pool that can distribute the ball effectively.

More evidence that this match is an act of idiocy on the part of USSF. They've completely hamstrung Klinnsy. Mexico is bringing the funk, which means we do to - which means He can't get started on his projected of rebuilding the defense, and fine tuning the midfield/attack. As a Big FU - I hope this is what he does:

    -----------------------------Hamid-------------------------------
    --------------------Ream--------------Orozco--------------------
    --------Chandler------------------------------------Castillo-------
    --------------------------Beckerman------------------------------
    ---------------------Torres--------Bradley------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    ------------Freddy-----------------------------Shea--------------
    ---------------------------Donovan-------------------------------

Of course it's a little more impressive for Ream because he attempts twice as many passes per match as John and still has a superior percentage.

I'm surprised to see our man Orozco-Fiscal there. He had a rough start with Philly (then again, we were an expansion team) but he picked up form as the year went on and he scored a goal or two. I think we wanted to extend his loan or purchase him, but money prevented the move. Wish him all the best.

I'd like to see a central midfield trio that includes Torres and Beckerman. I really, really would like to see that. I think we'd actually hold onto the ball.
