The MLS All Star game is next week July 27 almost a week from now, and if this announcement is to happen at the All Star game, we should start hearing some rumblings and or see more internet naming activities around the Cosmos name. If the New York Cosmos is going to join MLS at all, this is the moment of the calm before the storm and the start of the New York Cosmos watch begins.
I dont see it happening. True, we should hear somthing this week if so, but seems we'd have heared something by now if it was an all star announcement. Hope to hear something soon though.
Yea - starting to think the All Star game is not going to be the announcement. In a way that is good, they should focus on RedBull during those days because they are hosting the event. However, With the All Star game comes a state of the league. There is also the Cosmos game on August 5th. I imagine some status update will be provided. I just want to hear something different than we are a long way off. I get all kinds of people telling me things, some come true, some dont. At the end of the day, I dont care how, when, where, I just want the deal to get done. Its not an easy task at all.
I think it's better they don't do it during All-Star week. There are plenty of other weeks to rep publicity. I do hope Cosmos become a MLS team, Expansion is good, at least til MLS gets to 24 teams.
Who knows, in the past bigsoccer members were able to track these kind of things by checking internet domain names and such. Most of the time they were successful with finding out these things. At this point there should be some kind of rumblings in the papers or somewhere in the universe. But if any announcement is coming, it should be very soon and more than likely you'll hear it first by soccer bloggers like Goff or Ives.
Havent heard anything there. Would be nice. Agreed - although I am not sure the timing of the announcement is imminent. I would love for it to be but I could see more time needed.
This from a Real Madrid fan. Please explain how MLS "needs" the New York Cosmos. Will MLS fold if a team that decides to call itself the New York Cosmos doesn't join in the next couple years?
This coming from the biggest hypocrite on the internet. Look man, you can't stand the fact that New Yorkers don't think that a guy living in Central Jersey is a New yorker. We get it. You think the Cosmos suck, you think Edison New Jersey is New York City. We get it. now leave.
They don't "need" them, but you're fooling yourself you don't think this could elevate the MLS to a higher standard. It would be huge shot in the arm for the reputation of MLS and perhaps give MLS a much wider TV audience.
The poster did not assert that the Cosmos could elevate MLS to a higher standard, be a huge shot in the arm, or give MLS a much wider TV audience, all of which is debatable and all things you can make an argument for. He asserted that MLS "needs" the Cosmos. But then again, I'm the biggest hypocrite on the Internet and I think Edison is the same as NYC.
Anyone who collects government paychecks and says that people stricken with AIDS should die if they can't afford the drugs without government help is yes, a hypocrite. Beyond that, you have also said on this board that Central Ne Jersey is part of New York. And your hair splitting argument is stoopid.

MLS needs more rivalries, and there's nothing like good ol' fashioned NY-NJ-Boston rivalries. What's great about the Cosmos: Nice kits, already has fans, already has DA's, and they've scheduled an international match without being in a league. Cosmos would make two rivalries instantly. if A=B and B=C, then A=C MLS needs the Cosmos.
Wouldn't that be four rivalries instantly? 1. New York Red Bulls (Cosmos #1 rivalry) 2. Unions (Who the Red Bulls have been battling all season for tops in East) 3. New England Revolution (Who is a rivalry, but not with the same kind of passion between a local rivalry or a near regional rivalry like Philly) * 4. DC United (A rivalry also because they are in the East, but because they are so far south it lacks that deep passion in most rivalies) But honestly, I see a real passionate 3 way rivalry between the future Cosmos and Red Bulls and Philly. I think Philly will be a good team for a long time within the league, the way they are putting together that team and the New York teams who will have to be very competitive against Philadelphia to win the East or make the playoffs will create a critical passionate rivalry between the 3 clubs. Remember also that Philly is the nearest regional rivalry to both New York MLS teams, which is just under two hours to the south of the New York Metropolitan area by car. I could see the rivalry between both New York clubs and Philly, rivaling that of the Pacific Northwest rivalry with Vancouver, Seattle and Portland in the near future... so "yes" I do agree that MLS do need a 2nd New York team and there is none better than the Cosmos!
How the f*ck do you find an assertion from one post, 4 words... " MLS needs the Cosmos ". I think RedBull "needs" to sell the club, and restore a true club identity. Will RBNY fold if that doesn't happen? Of course not... because i wasn't being literally. Using the term "needs" without proper explanation of causation just implies that one thinks it would be in the "best intrest of." Why are you trying to use community college philosophy 101 tactics to argue just for the sake of argument?
I dont know - I feel like there will be more "positive" news about it before they announce it. I think in the next week or two we will see more positive news from Garber and the Cosmos about their talks - hopefully Garber does not say - we are a long way off. I imagine the Cosmos, who are playing at Old Trafford, will want to play in NYC before the year is out - what a stage that would be - no? Imagine like a friendly in Queens - oh that would be awesome.
yeah, i don't see it this month or next. But if they were to play a game in NYC, which i would think would be on the Agenda.... that might be a great platform.
