Montreal partner with Quebecor Media Group ahead of MLS debut MONTREAL — The Montreal Impact and the Quebecor Media Group announced a five-year partnership on Thursday as the team prepares to join Major League Soccer in 2012, and TVA Sports has been named the official broadcaster of the club. TVA Sports will present 24 of the Impact’s games next season, all in high definition. “The entire Impact organization is very excited about the partnership we have formed with Quebecor Media and its subsidiaries,” Impact president Joey Saputo said in a press conference Thursday. “With this announcement, we can confirm today that all Impact games will be broadcast on television in high definition starting [in] 2012. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...n-multimedia-deal-name-tva-sports-broadcaster Presser: http://www.youtube.com/user/ImpactMontrealFC
I predicted this with the wife a few months ago. TVA Sports needed exclusivety to one product if they wanted to compete with RDS and they got it. My hope is that Videotron or Quebecor replaces Saputo on the club's shirt but I doubt that will happen.
Videotron won't replace Saputo because Saputo won't be on the jersey next year. The Impact signed a deal with BMO recently.
You're right, RDS and TSN will be showing matches. However, the lesson to be learned here is that if one source for sports is consistent in bringing you the team you want to watch, there's a good chance that you'll always be watching the team on that station. For Canadiens games, most Quebecers don't even bother to tune into CBC as their coverage is quite limited, it'll likely be the same thing for TVA vs. RDS with the Impact.
Yes, but TVA will be showing the games that RDS won't. You'll have no other choice than watching games at both channel if you don't want to miss one game.
That's more or less what I said. I suspect that TVA will have ALL games whereas RDS will only have some games.
TVA won't have ALL games, they will have ~24 games. Explicitly, they will have the games that RDS won't show. RDS(/TSN) deal is with MLS and gives them the first choice of games. They have a deal for 30 games which can include the Impact (or not). If the Impact appears in one of those 30 games, TVA won't be permitted to show it. It is believed (and would be rather logical) that RDS will pick 10 games featuring the Impact and TSN will pick 20 games featuring the other 2 Canadian teams.
Correct. TSN/RDS have 12 games, TVA has 24. This is the same deal the Whitecaps and TFC have. National Provider gets 12 games per team (includes all Canadian derbies) Regional Provider gets the rest -Caps use Sportsnet -TFC use GOLTV -Impact use TVA Overall, this country is really picking up its coverage.
I just use Matchday Live for when TFC is on GOLtv but I know what your saying because I've seen pretty much every Caps game too.

If the NHL center ice package is anything to go by it will be few and far between in terms of picking up French broadcasts. They usually only did that when the other team's broadcast wasn't available.
If Impact signing a deal with TVA means ill be able to hear and see less of this girl, it will be a good thing http://fr.canoe.ca/divertissement/livres/entrevues/2009/05/28/cdouville300.jpg
