Wow, this article starts out great...
"Standing on line" "The man on line in front of me"

At least the rest of it isn't a bad read.

Actually both are proper statements even if "on" is less often used

in a real derby...you dont let flounder fans come to your arena and make fun of your tifo and bathrooms.

in glasgow (rangers v celtic) the support side with the most fans on the boat (from belfast) gets to sing while the lesser group has to take it. derby etiquette.

Fortunately for us, most Americans can't find Glasgow on a map, let alone being bothered with what those Lilliputians think a rivalry should be. My guess is because we got off the boat a long time ago and have forgotten those sea shanties. Or am I just being a yahoo?

We also don't need to worry about getting shanked before, during, or after the match.

I'm not ECS and was happy to sit outside of the supporters group. Stupid TA kept trying to shove me towards ECS section.

Supporters group culture is fine, but they seemed to forget that most people buying tickets to that match weren't ECS or TA.

Please elaborate... the TA were trying to shove you toward the ECS? Was this when you were walking around, in your seats, buying tickets?

If you had general admission tickets (IE timbers army section) this move came from the front office.

Timbers Army (GA) Match Day Details: All Timbers Army sections (101-108 & 201-208) are general admission and are first-come first-served. Fans without TA tickets or wearing visiting team colors will not be allowed into these sections. The Timbers Army is a supporters section so many areas will be filled with fans standing, chanting and singing, flags provided should be left behind for collection after the match.

According to glasgow derby etiquette you send bombs to the opposing teams FO as well. I dont think we should be looking to rangers v celtic for tips on how fans behave

Doesnt mean that away fans, whether they identify with a supporters group or not, shouldnt be placed together within a stadium. It is in the best interests of everyone and provides a much safer environment for everyone involved. All it takes is one individual, who supports either team, regardless if they identify with the TA or ECS or not, to do something stupid and it ruins the experience for everyone.

I disagree. We're all adults and should be able to act like it. Plus putting non supporters group fans in with them isn't fair to the non-supporter group fans. Supporter fans as we know do things a certain way. If an away fan wants to just sit and watch the game they can't do that in the supporters group area.

This is out and out crap. If I see a fellow Timbers fan hassling an away fan I'll give them a talking to. 99% of fans in the stadium (home and away) want nothing to do with macho posturing and garbage that goes along with the idea that because someone is wearing the opposition's colors that you should give them a hard time. When you say that they should sit in the visitor's section for safety's sake what you're saying is, "I'm not old enough to be able to control my own infantile behavior."

Fans, be they regular fans, ECS etc should sit wherever they please. If they try to start a fight then they should be escorted out by security. If we try to start a fight then we should be escorted out by security. Plain and simple. You're rooting for a sporting team, not fighting a war against a foreign enemy. Get over yourself.

Unlucky you're not the one working with FO to design the security plan then, eh mate? Policy has already been posted in this thread, but please feel free to jump in next time an opposing fan in colors steps in our section. I'd love to see one of your "talking to's."

Macho Daaaaaaaaaave. You did notice the part where the poster said he wasn't in the supporters section, right? If somebody was being harassed, I'd step in too. Nobody deserves that nonsense.

It reminds me of a Packers vs Vikings game I went to in Minnesota. I wore my Packers jersey. So did a lot of other people. We were all over the stadium. There were even two Bears fans in their jerseys next to me. You know what? We all got along great. You know why? Because we aren't ********ing dickheads.

I grew up in Maine and I've never heard it. Not denying it's said somewhere, but I presume it's not a New England thing.

To contribute to the thread, I've been following the league since the beginning, and atmosphere like this is what I've always hoped for. It's awesome to see that it exists somewhere in the league - just a shame that it probably won't exist in places like NE for a long time, if ever.

I once went to a Buffalo Bills game in San Diego wearing a Thurman Thomas jersey. As I was driving around the parking lot looking for a spot, some tailgating Chargers fans sprawled over several spaces -- without being asked and with smiles on their faces -- truncated their tailgate to make room for me to park.

Providence smiled back on them when the Bills kicker missed a chip shot at the buzzer which would have altered the outcome (the headline in the San Diego paper was, "Lady Luck Laughs Last"). But I drowned my sorrows by driving straight from the game to the beach.

Moral: it's just a game. Enjoy the camradarie of your fellow fans.
