The Federacion appointed a cuban to coach the MNT and that is about all, no word on the players yet

More info can be found on balompiedominicano.blogspot.com

For instance that the teams of the local Liga Mayor de Futbol are complaining for still NOT knowing which of their players will be part of the MNT

What ever happened to Henry Diaz Alexander? Wasn't Napoli and AC Milan chasing him?

I think there is a good Dominican player in the Haitian league. He is a striker and has already scored many goals this season. I am not sure of the name of the club but it may be A.S. Capois (a first div club located in the city of Cap-Haitian).

As long as the federation takes a back seat when it comes to organizing the national league, no. Its an embarrassment really.

Good start to the 2014 campaign. 2-0 win over Anguila with goals from Domingo Peralta and Johnathan Fana.

According to wikipedia, the great soccer nation of Anguila has only 12,000 inhabitants and only 6 teams

Nevertheless, a win -always- feels good

You are right, Dom Rep and Haiti should be in the same group so that Martelly could invite Fernandez to watch his first soccer game ever

I can see you do not like DR!!!! That would be the worst case scenario for our neighbors.

I believe the Dominicans have been getting more success against other teams like Cuba and Trinidad. I really do not understand why. Maybe, The Trinis and the Cubans take the Dominican Republic too lightly and they sometimes get burned. So, it would be a far better scenario for the DR to place them in a group with Trinidad or Cuba.

In Haiti, it's not beating the Dominicans that matters (to us, it's normal), but by how many goals we win. We do not see them as 'rival'. We just don't consider them a 'soccer' nation. When we beat them, it's no big deal.

And I am sure the Dominicans would feel the same way too if Haiti had a baseball team. Notice to have a national team, Haiti would have to use DR based players. We do not have any in Haiti.

I believe the only sports in which those countries can be considered 'true rivals' are boxing (Haiti has higher quality fighters, DR has more fighters), volleyball (DR has a slight edge), taekwondo (Haiti has a slight edge), tennis (probably even).

In most other sports, DR probably leads the competitions.

First, Cuba's not even an option, since they won't be playing in the elementary round. And the top seeds for the groups this fall are:

    Canada
    Trinidad and Tobago
    El Salvador
    Panama
    Haiti
    Grenada

So the DR would be considered an underdog against any of them (except maybe Grenada). Having said that...

This is the kind of mindset that leads us to underestimate a team like Guadeloupe just 'cause they're Guadeloupe, never mind that they've done well for themselves in three Gold Cups in a row. For the Dominicans, they have this guy called Jonathan Fana, maybe you've heard of him...

Haiti would still be considered a favorite; but the mid- to lower-tier teams in CONCACAF are getting better. And if there's any kind of match that's ripe for an upset, it's a derby one.

Usaf, You totally misunderstood me. I am not underestimating the Dominicans. I actually think the Dominicans are doing very well. Nothing is for ever. As of now, Haiti has the edge but the balance may one day tilt in the Dominican direction!

Who remembers the time when Panama was a punching bag? But, now Panama commands respect! See?

Haitians and Dominicans know when it comes to soccer, there is not much of a rivalry between the Hispaniola teams. The Dominicans have always been underdogs and they rarely get lucky! In fact, I hate seeing the Dominican Republic almost always placed in either Haiti or Cuba group in most tournaments. You know, I always wish that the officials would give them a chance to reach higher level of competitions!

For example, I do believe DR can beat some of those other smaller Caribbean teams that sometimes make it up to CONCACAF level competitions. The only reason those teams got there and not the DR it's usually because the Dominicans so often have to play teams like Haiti and Cuba in preliminary rounds.

Yes, I know Fana because Haiti's youth teams are mostly the reason why you don't see him much in a top level Caribbean tournaments. By the way, I saw Fana playing and I believe that kid could play for a better club.
