Yeah, no kidding. They have a joint trophy case with the NYRBs. Just dust and crickets. The only international tournaments Brazil have won is WWC qualifying for their federation.

    That's lame.

Our USMNT should trotting around the pitch with two stars then.

Absurd, it should be the team that displays the star, not the federation.

yes, the player that passed the ball to Marta for the second brazilian goal was slightly offside when she received that ball

nevertheless, the mistake was made by the AR, not the CR

You haven't noticed the USA shield has 3 stars?

    New Zealand has four.

    Who cares.

Now that the euphoria has died down I can discuss the changes Pia made. Both swapping Rampone and Buehler, and not holding as high a line worked very well. Gave up some space in midfield with the later but it did not hurt as much as the high line did.Thought all 3 subs had impact, even if the 3rd was a bit late for my taste after playing so long with 10. Nice coaching job.

    are you kidding?

those 3 are inside, they are a part of the shield b/c there's a few , 50, stars on our flag, men have it too

the new zealand flag has 4 starts on it for the southern cross constellation and that's the representation as well.

The stars on the shield represent our flag. The color scheme is messed up but it is red, white and blue. Those stars are just that. The women have two stars on their uniform above the crest to represent their two WC championships. If the men wore those stars, it would be embarrassing. And for Brasil, perhaps it is preventing their women from winning it. The stars should represent the national team, not the federation. But to each his own.

And how many stars are on the brazilian flag?

You are just making a mountain out of a molehill.

Everybody know how many cups each nation has.

Not really. It's just plain tacky and shows no integrity on the part of the Brazilian women's team. Oh wait, that pretty much sums up the cynical brand of ball the Brazilian's play.

It does seem quite dubious to me to wear the stars the men's team earned. Unless we're also keeping general 'World Cup' records that incorporate events from both as well, teams should be limited to what their women's team has accomplished.

This Women's World Cup includes Germany, France, England and Brasil. Did any of those teams other than Brasil include the stars for the men's championships on their jerseys?

I just wonder if their federation is too cheap to alter the badges/do new kits for the women. It's like how federations couldn't display their logos at the Olympics. All the teams complied except for Brazil, IIRC.

Or it could just be arrogance. Not sure.

Looks like it is part of the Brasilian federation's logo. Italy has its four stars incorporated within its logo. Some federations do not and insert the star above the logo.

I was thinking what Pia will be going through as it looks like we could have a Sweden v. USA final. How many times has a mans or woman had to coach against their home country in a World Cup Final? Sweden has never won, correct? Pia stands in the way of them winning their first WC. How bittersweet.

Blame Nike for the Brazillian stars. They're the company that prepares the equipment. The jerseys, with the stars is the way the Brazillian equipment manager receives them.

    Dear Stretcher Guys:

Thank you so much for taking your time to come and pick me up when I crumpled to the ground four seconds after the play was over with no contact. Getting those three extra minutes made for the most dramatic comeback in women's sports history Besides, it felt great to get right out of the gurney and go into a full sprint so I could get a REALLY good view of Abby's header. Golf is so much more fun than soccer anyway.

I feel like the US players should have entered the hotel they happen to be sharing with the brazilians while carrying abby and hope on stretchers LMAO

I just got home from a 3.5 hour drive so I have had plenty of time to think about today's game and let my emotions calm down a bit. So where should I start:

    The Good:

    1. Pia! Yep I said it! Dang her players certainly do a good job of making her decisions look brilliant! Since the tournament started I have been questioning every one of Pia's decisions but today she definitely shut me up. I'll be honest I never thought of switching Beuhler and Rampone but what a difference it made! Then when the US goes down a player she moves Boxx back into defense! Wow! I was screaming at the TV to sub in a defender but clearly I was wrong! All and all she had an excellent game tactical wise (except I may argue Lloyd but I"ll get to that soon!)

    2. Rampone: Honestly she might be my MVP of the game (she's pretty much tied with Solo and Wambach.) Definitely her best game of the tournament! She kept pace with the Brazilians and like I said earlier she looked closer to 26 than 36. Excellent game!

    3. Solo: In my book she stopped 2 PKs which is CRAZY! I mean who does that?!?! Gosh I loved being able to hear her yelling on my TV and I loved the look in her eyes! I kept thinking "if the US can take this to PKs Hope can do it." I said before the match that she would be a difference maker and she certainly was. In my book almost a flawless game by Solo.

    4. Wambach: Hello warrior of the match! I mean come on! She was awesome! Especially considering she's playing hurt (she can downplay it all she wants but let's be honest it is a factor right now.) Amazing goal and work ethic this game!

    5. Boxx: Best game of the tournament by far! Best hustle on the field in my opinion. I mean she did great to get to that ball early on to set up the first goal but what impressed me more was how much mobility she had once we went down a player! She was all over the place! Get that woman an IV with saline and an ice bath because she deserves some rest!

    6. LP: Best game of the tournament for her & so proud of her after the Sweden game! She actually kept pretty decent pace with the Brazilians all things considered.

    7. Krieger, HAO, & Rapinoe all had solid matches as well. I was excited to see Rapinoe playing so well today because normally I don't always love her play.

    The "OK" Players:

    1. Lloyd. Geez this is tough. My head says she didn't do well and didn't deserve to be out there as long as she was. But my heart says she scored a crucial PK for us and looked good doing it so I can forgive her. I'm way to emotionally torn to give her a true analysis right now so for today I will root for her!

    2. Morgan: This was the moment I've been waiting for! Let's tire out the Brazilians then bring in the speedy Morgan! I mean she could have danced circles around that tired defense. But she didn't really impress me much HOWEVER after putting some thought into it I realized that she came on right when we went down a player. If we would have had 11 players on the field I have a feeling Morgan would have been huge for us!

    3. ARod: she gave up to big defensive miscues but other than that she looked good. Not great but good. I still can't figure out if she was playing left midfield or not. But, I got to thinking about it and I wonder how she would look at left midfield in the future. She's just not the goal scorer we thought she would be but she's still dangerous. I would love to see an ARod experiment at left midfield when this tournament is over.

    4. Cheney & Heath. they looked solid but didn't impress.

    The Bad:

    1. The Ref. Enough said. Bogus foul, bogus red card, bogus re-do on the PK. I hope she's done for the tournament. She was bad.

    2. Brazil fitness: Hey Brazil you have an extra player so why not just sit back and think the game will be handed to you? I mean seriously? It looked like they were the team down a player. Wow! Maybe you should have played a few more games leading into the tournament.

    3. Brazil "acting:" Okay this is my moment to rant! Seriously! What the heck! Worst display of gamesmanship ever! Blatant falls. Newsflash Brazil: If you want to call yourselves "champions" then you better act like it! that simple. You want to call soccer the "beautiful game" then play it instead of these d@mn antics out there. You were a disgrace to the game and Brazilian soccer today. I expected more from you and you failed. You deserve to go home with your heads hung and you do not deserve to step foot on a soccer field again for a long time. You need to earn the right to play and earn respect from the soccer world again because you just lost it.

Sorry long winded I know but I had a lot of thoughts about today's game. Now if you are the US you take this evening to enjoy this moment and then tomorrow it's game time again. I have a feeling the starters will not be seeing much time on the pitch between now and Wednesday and honestly they don't need to. Jog a little, stretch a lot, rehydrate, ice, and rest up for Wednesday because it will be another battle. I expect to see possibly a few changes just because our players will be tired. But their fitness proved to be outstanding today! Overall, I am pleased with the grit of this team and I am proud of them! GO USA!

When are players going to learn that you keep going with what brought you, and trying to run the clock out feigning injury usually doesn't work. Of course, the same could be said of football coaches who go prevent in the last quarter, and that almost never works either.
