I watched the whole Mexico vs Germany game and it was a hell of a game, played in the right spirit and could have gone either way. Interesting that the German team basically collapsed in the last 15 minutes of both the England game (from 3-0 to 3-2) and the Mexico game ( from 2-1 to 2-3)

I really felt Mexico was the better team overall for the full 90 minutes. Germany simply did not have the means to stop an Olympic goal and a bicycle kick. I mean, when do you see BOTH of those in the same match. Fairy-tales are made out of these kinds of matches.

Despite the result, it was a fantastic match and well deserved by the young Mexican players.

Class beat Germany yeasterday...as I said, an Olympic goal to equalize and a sick "chilena" to win it with a couple minutes to go - you can't script this any better.

Hopefully, this defeat will bring this German team down a peg or two and can build on their complacency issues - which they seem to have. Perhaps because they started the tourney with a 6-1 win and it just went on from there until the last 20 minutes vs England.

Time for the new thread and it's come at the right time with the new group of players about to begin their campaign.

The new squad should be out in a while.

Roll on next season. I've long thought the last lot were a disappointing group, but am happy we have the two jems Fanimo and Sterling. I was pleasantly surprised how much improved we were in general play against the Germans. By the way someone should tell Powell to get over the ball more when shooting - it's still not dawned on him why the ball keeps going so high over the goal. :)
And Chalobah doesn't seem to be able to work himself up to a sprint.

The first tournament coming up will be the Nordic Cup when most of the best players are left out and others are given a game. The quality tournament used to be shown on Sky - I'm surprised no channel has taken that up.

I'll be interested to see if we have enough goals in the side. Pity they won't have a World Cup to go to.

Couldnt agree more about Nick Powell, mate...it was getting on my nerves how he regularly never got his shoulders and head over the ball when he shot at goal.

With regards to the last lot, I think Chalobah and Sterling are definite u19 players next season.

Players like Redmond, Fanimo and Hope will come very close for u19's. Caskey, Clayton and Morgan are also good players and in Caskey's case...he surprised me with his comfortability on the ball.

Then to me I think quite a few players will surprise and maybe do a John Flanagan, Jamaal Lascelles, George Taft, Kieran Kennedy, Oxlade- Chamberlain and Obita and make the u19's as u18's without playing for the u17's or if they weren't first choice picks for u17's...hehe and if that made sense.

    They are...

    Eric Dier (Everton) centre-back
    Elliott Ackroyd (Forest) left-back
    Joe Whight (Ipswich) left-back
    Tyler Blackett (Man Utd) left-back

    James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) cm
    Alban Bunjaku (Arsenal) cm
    Jack Blake (Forest) cm

    Zak Ansah (Arsenal) str

For the Arsenal boys, heard that Jebb and Ormonde-Ottewill will be with the u18's next season and that Akpom and Lipman will stay with u16's.

    Is that true?

Also out of interest...Forest have Kieran Wallace there and last season played LW for the ENG u16's but growing up right from u9's...he played mainly cm and for our u18's last year he played in numerous roles...on the left, on the right, through the middle and off our main striker.

The reason I mention that is that we have a superb LW who has grown up in the same side with Wallace from u9's in Josh Thomas. Don't be surprised to see him get a look in over the season potentially with the u17's. He scored 11 goals for our u16's last year from LW and then captained a yth team of ours at the end of the season to Mallorca where we we finished 3rd ahead of Liverpool and other teams from South America and Germany and Spain. Superb technique and wand of a left-foot.

Any reason why you haven't put down Gunn and Clark? Wilson is also 1996 born as far as I know.

It will be interesting to see who of the U16 eligible players actually go to Iceland with the U17's.

The promotions for the last Nordic tournament with regards to players a year younger was pretty bizarre.

I hope Gunn and Clark go with the u17's, Barry....but don't you think that they are going to stay behind with the u16's?

I guess they could do a Chalobah but then again Fanimo stayed behind...it will be interesting.

I think Gunn has a good chance of being promoted. They might even do the same as they did with Willis and promote him and then drop him back down to the U16's.

It depends how much they rate the 1995 keepers at this point and how highly they rate Gunn himself.

I doubt Clark will be promoted but it's hard to say. They had Moli and Facey on standby for the last Nordic tournament for instance.

this has to be my favourite group of 17s to come through for a while. i have high hopes for this lot - same problems will be (1) tactics (2) competition for places.

as for Gunn, he confirmed to me on Twitter he'll be with the 16s for another term...but that doesn't mean he couldn't be called up to the 17s at all - just what i heard from the kid himself.

Hopefully Jack Barmby(son of Nick Barmby) will be also included, played a lot this season for United u18, and even for reserves until he got injured.
    Promising attacking midfielder:)

looks like he was part of the side that went to the Ferroli tournament, where the best defender award was won by Gordon Alistair (Chelsea).

George Glendon Shay Facey Devante Dewar-Cole Ashley Smith-Brown Dominic McHale Daniel Murray James Horsfield James Thorne George Jones Oliver Martin Callum Harris Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson Billy O'Brien Samuel Coulson Jack Byrne Alex O'Hanlon

Shay Facey is going to Iceland too. Smith-Brown and Facey can fill the full back positions.

So by that Bar, are you saying that Smith-Brown is a left-back?

Can add Ruben Loftus-Cheek in there from Chelsea too as he's already been called up twice. Would be exceptionally surprised if Alex Kiwomya doesn't get a look next season too.

Easy mistake to make, when the Surname is also a common first name. Like Steven Gerrard, John Terry, David James, Michael Owen, Andrew Carroll, Craig Gordon! LOL
