I wonder if this conversation took place the day before Manu played Bolton:

Fergie (takes a hit of springbank 18, likes it and takes another): Jonny me' boy come in.

    Jonny sits

Fergie: you get the call tomorrow.there havent been many.

    Jonny nods

Fergie: that boy Holden's looking fine out there.

    Jonny nods in understanding.

Fergie (takes another hit of the 18): Thank you for your time Jonny, that will be all.

    jonny nods and leaves.

the 11 o'clock sky sports news on fox soccer channel quotes coyle as saying that they're pushing back stuart's return another one or two months.

they originally had him slated to return in september, but now coyle says the doctors are taking some precaution and are wanting to extend his rehab a few more weeks.

    edit: also online:
the story is a little different here, saying that it's holden who set himself the september return date, but the doctors are a little more cautious.

Bolton signed Swansea CM Darren Pratley on a free transfer. I don't know much about him, but he has a pretty good goalscoring record for a CM, albeit in the Championship. He might be a good fit next to Stu if he is more attacking.

I haven't scoured every article & every tweet but did Bolton/Holden ever reveal exactly what the injury was? Beyond the generic "knee injury requiring surgery" statements? Am I the only one that thinks it odd not to say what the problem actually is (eg ACL, ACL + meniscus, etc) Or am I just too use to incessant and unnecessary coverage of every ankle & muscle strain of bball and NFL/NCAA football players?

I am seriously going to be pissed if Holden ever has another major injury.

    Enough is enough.

This is a great kid, and some players never have 1 injury as serious
as Holden, let alone 3 (the face fracture, the knee from De Jong, and
the knee from Evans). To make it worse, Holden was absolutely not
as fault in any of these cases...its not like he was reckless or even semi-reckless...he was just being a good kid and got whacked (3 times,
    nonetheless).

If there are football Gods and football karma, they will protect this poor kid from here. It would be unfair for us to not witness how high his career can go. He's deserved every accolade so far.

I read somewhere Holden said it was club policy not to announce the full extent of the injury.

I fully agree with this - and his attitude has been to just get back up and keep plugging away. Fantastic kid.

    Thanks.

Just seems odd to me since we see/read about specific injuries in soccer/baseball/basketball/football/etc all the time. And it isn't like they're trying to down play (or inflate) an injury that doesn't keep a player out to give them an advantage on the field of play.

And sadly we were not able to see him fully fit for WC 2010 nor healthy for the GC this Summer. We could have seriously used him....but he is young and can still make his biggest impact in WCQ and the WC in 2014.

Agreed. I really can't wait to see what he does when he fully gets a chance with the Nats.

You saw how Bolton fared without him, 2-0-7 to end the season. They need him back and so do we.

They don't report on surgeries the same way in Europe.

Unless it's a hair transplant thing.

It's a transfer geared policy. The less a prospective buyer knows about a players health (or lack thereof) the better.

That seems like the perfect role for him and exactly what we are missing in the final third. Absolutely needed him in the Gold Cup, damn the fates!

does this mean that we were going to play with dempsey, holden, and donovan just behind jozy and just in front of bradley and jones?

we'd never have seen freddy then. but i like it. let's hope we see it some time in wcq.
