Thank you for being so understanding. I appreciate it.

Now if you'll excuse me I have an appointment with my champagne and a nice piece of tail.

    Best wishes

Y'know, if they'd have lost the game, the US would have been playing on the day of the weddings.

You could see the effort in determination of D&D to make sure that didn't happen.

So, just for arguments, let's say we had to play without Dempsey or Donny today....who would be your 11 vs Jamaica.....also, I do think its fine for them to attend the family events.

I just thought about it after reading some of the posts and thought what I would do if I were a coach. And thinking of not playing them for a second I started to think of an 11 without them. Its not easy, I think I would change the shape without them.

Well we are definitely going to see what it looks like without Donovan starting if all the reports from twitter are true.

Just want to say one thing....F*** RECEPTIONS. Unless you're trying to bang one of the bridesmaids, they are a complete WASTE OF TIME. Shame on you, Landon.

I actually think donovan not starting will end up being a good thing. He will be more fresh as the tournament goes on.

Non-emergency events? Family should ALWAYS come first. In a perfect world I'm sure each of their sisters would have tried to not have it conflict with anything. This, however isn't a perfect world.

No they shouldn't. What is it Oprah? Every event isn't the same. An emergency event is totally understandable but a event that is not set in stone and avoidable shouldn't. There is something called profesionalism. Or should a player miss something like a gold cup final because of a high school graduation of a son or something to that effect?

    You're not serious, are you?

Gold Cup final = possibility every two years.

Son's high school graduation = once.

Sorry, but no player is so important to the team that they should be forced to neglect important events in their close family's life. If they are, then, frankly, we probably don't deserve to win the Gold Cup.

I was refering to the argument of Family ALWAYS coming first. Sorry if there was confusion to referring to this case specially.

Are you serious? Would it totally be understandable for a player to miss a gold cup final for something that could totally be avoidable and non emergency. Would it really be cool if for a Gold Cup final that determined the Confederations cup ticket for Tim Howard or someone of that caliber to miss it for a graduation?

You mean like Brad Guzan's missing this one for his wedding?

If Brad Guzan was a key player and did miss it for something totally manageable like a wedding, it would be totally unprofessional. Don't tell me if Tim Howard did it, it wouldn't be a slap in the face.

You used a bad example. Believe it or not, your kids' high school graduation is more important than the Gold Cup final, even if you're Tim Howard or Landon. If it was a dance recital, say, and your kid had 10 a year, then yeah I don't think it's a big deal to miss one. But graduation? No.

I'd call our regular #2 keeper pretty key (ask Mexico about that one)...and that's exactly why he's not here.

    I stand by it.

If he's key or had any real chance of playing, then it's a pretty lousy move and he should get flack for it.

Perhaps you are demonstrating why one of the best teams in CONCACAF occasionally seems to wilt under the pressure and the criticism that its own fans inflict upon it, and the other of the best teams in CONCACAF seems more likely to draw strength from its fan base.

Yeah that's it. I forget how that great fanbase that can't even fill their home team games give their stregnths because they don't criticize their wedding plans. By the way did I miss the many NBA, NFL or MLB players who get time off for games during playoff and important competitions so they can go to wedding and totally avoidable stuff that isn't set in stone?

^This. Now that we've won, this will be a great benefit.

And can we please just make this thread die now? It's no longer relevant.

NBA, NFL or MLB players don't play all year around like senior internationals do. You're comparing apples and uranium 238.

In the end, Dempsey and Donovan did fine. In fact, I think Donovan's lateness was a bit of a blessing. We can now say for certain that the USMNT will be able to go on without him when the time arrives.
