Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey will attend family weddings this weekend and miss preparations for the U.S. national soccer team’s CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal Sunday against Jamaica at RFK Stadium, the U.S. Soccer Federation said. Both are scheduled to travel Saturday night and play in the 3 p.m. match. While the U.S. squad flew to Washington from Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday, Donovan and Dempsey, the team’s most influential attacking players, were headed to California and Texas, respectively. Coach Bob Bradley granted their requests for time-off well before the tournament, USSF spokesman Michael Kammarman told the Insider. Donovan’s sister and Dempsey’s sister are getting married Saturday. You couldn't make it up.
Yeah I'm fine with them going to weddings, but wasn't one of Donovan's quotes that they were going to work together during training this week to get better? lol....strange days.
You're right, both of them will be just as indifferent as before, just this time they'll be hungover.
Not saying they should miss their sisters weddings and all, but this tournament is almost laughable at this point. Just get us knocked out so the players can take some time off and the US can turn the page on this chapter.
Gosh I hate to agree with this I'm holding out hope that something can click and they can play well again, but nothing points to that.
If there were only 11 players in camp including Freddy Adu he would not play... Trust me he does not fit Bobs plans.
Saturday's in June are typical days for weddings .... their sisters could have had this planned for a year and long before the Gold Cup ... sorry but the long term impact at the worst is not attending the next Confed Cup .... in this case - the coach made the right call .... if the team is that dependent on these two being in DC all week (when we know they needed rest anyways) then there are bigger problems. Oh wait a minute they do have bigger problems. I just hope they actually get rest .. wedding periods can result in limited rest as it is. I can imagine Clint's toast .... "I just hope and pray sis that your marriage is more successful than my last match" You never know - it might be good for these two to be with family and recharge for a few days - what else will they do - sit in DC hotels and read BS postings and the WaPo and Goff's musings? They would really chill them out - not.
