You know, I wouldn't count him as he wasn't brought in as a DP, but became one, like Montero. I think theres a big difference between a player thats brought in specifically to be the DP and a player that earns his right to be treated like and paid like a DP. Donovan obviously deserves it. I hold a lot more respect for players that earn their DP status through their actual play on the field in the MLS.
No Donovan has always been a DP, he was just "grandfathered" into the DP system because he was a DP before there was a DP rule, same with Eddie Johnson and Carlos Ruiz.
Last one I can think of that wasn't fired inbetween jobs was Sigi Schmid when he left Columbus after his contract was up to go to Seattle.
No, but that doesnt mean it couldnt happen. It happens often in every other sport. I have to think that Nichol would be willing to listen if we wanted to talk and I would hope NE would grant permission if he wanted to. They might be ready for some new blood anyway. Our organization has a lot to offer a new coach with the stadium, practice facility, and committed ownership group. I would think it would be a premium job for an existing MLS coach as long as they arent a snob that only wants to work in a big market.
Can't think of anybody in contract thought right? I think just like player movement between teams, with rights and everything MLS is geared up towards this kind of thing ... it doesn't seem to be part of the culture the same way players and managers in other countries get tapped up, unsettled and then acquired. Roy Hodgeson resigning at Fulham to go to Liverpool for example ... I'm not saying it can't happen but a little voice in the back of mind is saying it probably won't. Of course but when the owners sit around a table and make business decisions together I can't imagine somebody stealing another teams coach would go down to well. I *think* that if we hired within the MLS pool we will be hiring a guy that is without a job right now.
After seeing the way that Nicol treats the open cup last night, and in general I'm not sure I want Nicol. Bob Bradley on his move to New York. They had to compensate Chicago if I remember right.
Sadly not our coach. 1 win in 9 games. But he is probably the next sir Alex so let's give him 5 more years.
Well, at least he gets points for having the foresight to put Kronberg in a couple of real competitive matches before this...
Oh, I don't disagree with you - Vermes' tactics are leaving a lot to be desired - but Smith wasn't available.
Which tactics are you referring to??? Does another game of by-pass the midfield count as tactics? Extremely disappointing start to Sporting Park.
Perhaps the team plays poorly because they really are not very good. Perhaps they don't appear very well organized because they do not have good soccer minds. To salvage some of the season, since I am pretty sure Vermes stay in place, why not trade a forward for a real midfielder? One time, in minor league baseball a player was traded for a dozen bats. Another, in that same year, was traded for a turkey. What do you think Vermes would bring in a trade?
And who do you think we'll get? We're not going to get a guy that will drastically improve this midfield in a trade.
That the players are not good enough is his fault. He is the gm. He has gotten everything wrong for 5 years. He needs to resign.
I really don't think that this roster is THAT bad. Yes, it would be nice to get Ryan Smith a string of games, especially now that we have a wide field for him to utilize, and we are without several players due to international duty. But even without them, I saw a starting XI last night that should be talented enough to do something constructive. I also have trouble believing that the players are so clueless that their lack of soccer brains would still produce a team that looks like they are playing a 5-0-5, 6-0-4, or 7-0-3.
