Robben and Ribery are injury-prone and we need some backup for our attacking players. He would get some playing time for sure but he is still young (he is only 19 iirc?).
Anyway, is it only a rumor or does it come from a reliable source?

    Supposed to be official soon

There aren't any news articles out yet, but I'm guessing that we'll see alot tomorrow.

Judging by the reactions on 2ch (Japanese message board), most people believe that it's already done. Although in the past they've made threads for transfers that never happened so I'll wait and see.

The thing that troubles me is the fact that it's supposedly a loan. If Bayern had bought him outright then they would have some obligation to give him some playing time as they would not want to waste their investment.

Since the move seems to be a loan, there really isn't any reason to play him unless you believe that he will add something to the team. It's really a no risk investment, if he's good then you sign him permanently. If not then you just flog him back to Japan.

I'm worried that when its decision time to choose a line-up that he will not be chosen because there really isn't any valid reason.

He's the best U-20 Japanese player at the moment.

    Future NT member for sure.

He's up against Ribery, Muller, Kroos, and Robben.
He can play either wings or behind the striker.

    Yes, Nagatomo at Inter.................
or is Inter a small club?

It's on Sports Hochi, so it might even be true as the paper has some kind of media partnership with Bayern.

But I don't remember Bayern ever signing players on loan... ?

It's ok if you're not really impressed, it's not as if he had to convince you.

I can't imagine why Usami himself would agree to such a stupid deal that almost guarantees he will sit on the bench irrespective of his actual ability. Just look at the Donovan fiasco for the many, many reasons why a LOAN deal with BAYERN in particular is a RECIPE FOR DISASTER. The only conceivable reason would be wages, but since it's just a loan, his wages would stay the same too as he's not signing a new contract. If the kid is mind-bogglingly stupid enough to make this move, it will be hard to feel sorry for him. I'll feel sorry for us as fans of the JNT though, that one of our top prospects commited career suicide.

My source, thou I can't quote it, is from inside Gamba. It is a 99% done deal. Read my piece on goal.com on why he picked Bayern.

Your piece on goal.com doesn't say anything about why he picked Bayern.

This is a bitter sweet deal, on one hand hes signing with the biggest club in Germany. But on the other there are 2-3-3 good options that hell have to contend with just to get on the pitch forget starting. I hardly see him suplanting Muller...hes Germanys golden child.

Mario Gomez is a beast, Robben is proven, and Ribery is probably the best of all of them when healthy!!!! THIS IS MADNESS!!!

His only hope is that they stick him in there as a winger im not too familiar with the team but this just seems like a very risky move. We dont want to see another Morimoto situation, Usami is already a very good player but Bayern is big time with players that have solidified roles. Its going to take a lot of growth, hard work, and luck for him to grab and keep a starting role. Unless this is just another BS transfer rumor...Zac should have played him against Peru.

Goru, how's Usami and Deutsche Sprache? Any info on that? I wonder in what spirits he'll be after being called up for NT and seeing players like Honda or Ienaga all around. I'm also curious about details on how many years deal it would be. And Zac probably told him already that if he won't get playing time he might miss WC qualifiaction games and even WC itself in wider perspective. But I still have hope that if that Bayern rumors are true he'll somehow pull it through in Germany (still I'm not the biggest fan of Usami's talent).

Usami's chance is that either Ribery or Robben are out injured which happens quite often.

What concerns me is that Bayern is a club which usually signs accomplished players and hardly bothers to develop talents. Mueller is the one exception over the past few years, most players from their own youth don't make it. So, signing Usami would be something totally different to what they have done so far and it would amaze me if they changed their concept now to say the least.

Mueller is German so it was still much easier for him than for a foreigner with same amount of talent to grab a spot in Bayern. It's just one of the biggest clubs in the world, with immense pressure put on the players everyday. If You'll screw once or twice You'll hardly get considered as a starter in the future. Results above anything else there.

Hmm, as it stands Bayern has 2 injury-prone wingers and Altintop is gone to Real. Furthermore, Heynckes likes to rotate his players and also gives young unproven players a chance. In other words: I wouldn`t be so pessimistic about Usami`s move to Bayern. He has a very good chance to get playing time there.

    Re: Japanese Abroad 2010/11 [R] - Germany

    lol wut?

The thing with Ribery and Robben is that they always bounce back. So even if this kid gets into the starting 11 as a second choice, he will always be just that.. The second choice. I think that's what people here are worried about..

We had a similar case here in Holland, we have this midfielder / winger called Afellay. He is pretty good, he used to play at our local club called PSV and was part of our NT. After the World Cup in 2010 Barcelona wanted him and everyone here in Holland said 'NO! don't do it!' because of the competition he will face in Barca. And as expected he was just a sub. But by simply being part of barca he improved tremendously as a player.. He is still just the "second chose" but he is getting more play time at Barca, Big clubs like Liverpool are interested in him and his value multiplied after that assist to Messi in that semi-final against Real Madrid. He is now even part of the starting XI of our NT.

the same thing can happen here. A young, inexperienced kid going to a big club where he will have a lot of competition doesn't necessarily mean he will crash and burn... Sure a smaller club would be better considering his age. But he will get more experience and more exposure simply by being part of a club like Bayern then at where he is right now.. All this kid needs is patience and a thick skin, and he will make it.

    "is he any good"
    "did japan blah blah"

First thing to do is to check by yourself before asking and 2 or 3 Youtube videos are not enough to judge.

Most sites seem to be reporting the same thing, although whether it's a full transfer or a Loan is still not specified.
I remember reading about how Bayern Munich been watching him for a year now, and they even invited him to their training camp in the off-season, but was declined by Gamba Osaka. I'm surprised Gamba would let him go now. I thought they at least want to keep him at least longer, but I guess money and the fact Usami wanted it helped change that.
I hope he'll do good and impress enough to win a spot in the first squad. GAMBARO, USAMI TAKASHI.

This also means he would meet Neuer, Uchida's friend and to-be-former teammate.

yes, but still final details not revealed/finished ... lets wait, still japanese media talking about loan deal + option to buy

guess Bayern WANTS to buy him, its unusual for them to loan players like that, thats why many Germans also were wondering...

Add that Gamba has half of the team 30yo or over 30yo, and badly need money to renew.

With 5-6 US$, they could buy 3-4 top players in Japan, and get rid some of the very highly paid veterans.
