I could understand that Wigan won't let him come and play the Gold Cup.However Honduras is a FIFA member.I could understand if it was Guadeloupe case. It's as if Los Angeles Galaxy refused to release David Beckham to go play the European championships with the English national team. It's simply discrimination!

actually the story is Maynor told Wigan coach, Roberto Martinez, to call Honduras Head coach, Luis Suarez, because he felt he needed a vacation and wanted to spend his summer on the field.

Maynor is at fault. he clearly didn't want to play with us which is why he made the phone call to DT Roberto Martinez.

Maynor knows he doesnt need to play. Players on US or Mexican national team, for example, know that they have stiff competition so they need to play in as many national team games as possible to cement their starting position. (For instance Clint Dempsey is not taking a rest, as he is playing for US). However, Maynor knows he doesnt need to play in this tournament...and can still come into the national team as a starter when ever he wants.

your kidding me right? I'm pretty sure noone on this team has a spot cemented for them, especially Maynor.

Maynor just isn't committed right now. If he isn't committed, then I rather not have him.

OK, so you believe (or know) that Maynor is far from having a secure spot on the national team despite being one of the only national team players to play regularly at the highest level. Then I stand corrected...

Center Back? Because he should not be playing full back for us.

He was gonna play Leftback imo and use Emilio as a volante.

With both Maynor and Emilio its unquestionable out defense has been weakened and so have our chances of winning this but i think Juan Carlos Garcia is the best possible replacement. Also couldn't Roger 'kung fu' Espinoza play LB as well so we still have talent in that position.

Roger is a poor mans Emilio while Garcia is a poor mans Maynor Figueroa.

Roger goes up and can play volante like Emilio while Garcia can stay back and defend and send balls from the back like Maynor, so I guess its weakened, but not too significantly. I was rather impressed with Juan Carlos Garcia during UNCAF.

And then totally unimpressed with him in the league. :p

He did deserve the call up though.

imo, all of Olimpia was unimpressive.

I wonder if he uses Javier Portillo as the starting LB. I wouldn't mind tbh. He's a scrapper and he's really good.

Guys what do you guys think of the possible starting lineup that Diez came up with. Here it is for those of you who haven't seen it.

    POSIBLE ALINEACIÓN DE HONDURAS
    Noel Valladares
    Mauricio Sabillón
    Osman Chávez
    Víctor Bernárdez
    Brayan Beckeles
    Boniek García
    Emil Martínez
    Hendry Thomas
    Eder Delgado
    Carlo Costly
    Jerry Bengtson

I am wondering why Nunez is not getting a start, I would think that Nunez is a guaranteed starter on that lineup, hopefully in place of Hendry Thomas or Carlo Costly.

I think that Costly is not all the way back yet, he looks really slow out there and doesn't have the explosiveness he used to have a couple of years ago.

    Ramoncito isn't A. Forward B. Holding Midfielder.

imo take out Boniek for Ramoncito and makem pair on the wings with Emil. Brayan Beckeles isn't a leftback, should be interesting.

Edder Delgado only in this game because Honduras wanna keep Wilson healthy for the rest of the tourney.

Other then that its okay. like Fernando Suarez said. He has to begin with something.

    You are correct catracho Azul.

What I meant was for the team to play with Ramoncito as a SS right behind Bengston and to give him the freedom to roam around, as I find Nuñes to be at his best when allowed to roam around.

I think that Nuñez is one of our best players atm and show be in the starting lineup, but he seems to not have a place to play with the current formation we are using. If you put him as a winger you need to but a defensive LB to cover for him because he does not track back. When you pair him on the same side as Sabillon you are asking too much out of your DM to cover for both of them when they push forward and I think that Thomas is too slow footed to cover for them.

This is where Emilio Izaguirre would've been so useful. as Nunez cuts inside, Emilio overlaps on the wing. and Emilio is more than capable of running up and down the wing for 90 minutes.

I think Nunez as a SS would work, but that would make our formation look like a 4-5-1. and Honduras in a 4-5-1 struggles to generate offense.
