there is also a link to a very helpful site that shows people how to get cheaply from DTW to downtown detroit. that is the information that the person asked for.

I hope I never develop a sense of humor that finds that post you made funny, because I'd be very disappointed with myself.

I chuckled as I've done that prank to people before.

So, if anybody is flying in on Tuesday afternoon I can probably pick you up to.

There's a large poster on the fence when you get off I-75 for Ford Field with Landon's mug on it.

I'm a vegetarian so it looks like I'll be surviving off of strictly chips for my 24+ hours in Detroit. I'm going to stuff my pockets with them.

What exactly is a vodka bomb?

Lifelong Detroiter reporting in so I'll do my best to get around to some of these questions.

I do not know for sure but the majority of visiting sports teams stay in the Townsend Hotel in the upscale suburb of Birmingham (30 minutes or so from downtown if you're driving).

Good question. I don't know a ton about Detroit's parks/sports scene but there are lots of parks and some soccer complexes in the suburbs. Maybe somebody else knows more about this?

    Random Detroit tips...

    • Keep in mind that the downtown area is pretty far from DTW Airport and that you'll probably end up paying a bit for a cab if you take one.
    • Metro Detroit's public transportation is terrible outside of the People Mover, which runs a smallish loop around the heart of downtown. Take the Grand Circus stop and it's a short walk to Ford Field.
    • Check out Slow's Bar BQ in Corktown. It's a relatively new BBQ place and one of the most popular restaurants in the city.
    • As was previously mentioned, Michigan has a great beer scene. Try a Bell's Oberon or Motor City Brewing Ghettoblaster. Foran's Grand Trunk Pub near Campus Martius has exclusively Michigan beers on tap.
    • In Foxtown near Ford Field there's a bar called the Park Bar. Attached to the bar is a small shawarma grill called Bucharest. It's awesome, cheap, and open pretty late. Highly recommended for a snack pregame or postgame. Speaking of Foxtown, skip Hockeytown Cafe (in my humble opinion).

Michigan is known for its breweries. Bells Brewery is considered one of the top 3 breweries in the USA. Founders, Celis and Shorts make great beers as well. Here are some places that are close to Ford Field, but I'm leaving a helluva lot of places out.

Downtown Detroit, specifically Corktown, Greektown, New Center, and Cass Corridor is bad ass.

Such an incredible city. Obviously lots of historical blight with sweet pockets of "holy f***** sh** that was a badass time!!!" You just gotta know where to go.

I'm gonna try and go (currently live in Austin), but my brother and friends will definitely be there. Probably at the Old Shillelagh.

Who is going to the Gold cup games?

    Who will boycott?

Should the people that are going (me included) have banners, chants about "FIFA sucks"?

Before? During? After? The National anthems, during the FIFA anthem?
