I for one am getting more into the CCL than I used to. Of course this year the Galaxy,my team, is in the round of 16 already. So I will go to and watch all their games. However I will watch all of the other televised matches no matter who is playing. You might find a good game.
I assume everyone who visits this particular area of the forum has some vested interest. I definitely will.
I will definitely be watching. IMO, CL is the most entertaining to watch despite the usual lesser attendance. You get to see teams from your league square up against other leagues. Also, I think MLS is starting to improve its CONCACAF play. We get 5 teams, the most in the region, to represent us in the tournament. RSL's run last year was exciting. I would rather my team win the CCL than MLS Cup.
UEFA CL is interesting because of its glitz and glamour and all that. But CONCACAF is our zone, and usually the soccer is pretty entertaining. Because it's our zone, I can get a lot more excited about CONCACAF. In fact, I am right now very impatiently awaiting the draw results.
Respuesta: Re: Will you watch the ccl this year? I always try to watch matches where Mexican teams are involved (in both CCL & Libertadores), so that won't change anytime soon.
Theoretically I'm more excited to see CCL play then MLS play, though NY v LA beats out most for my attention. Having said that, I'll probably just watch those games where I know there will be a good crowd. For instance, from Group C I will probably only watch Pumas vs FC Dallas (should they qualify). I know there will be alot of Mexicans at that game at Pizza Hut Park. Same goes with other groups. The only thing outside of Mex & US that I'll watch is probably the Islanders or some historic central american team in the knockout stage. If there's a Guatemalan teams going against LA I would defintately watch. I think the Hon vs Guat qualifier within Group A should be played in LA. Maybe the tournament should be restructured to allow for that- for these smaller central amer or caribbean countries to choose the place to play others. I seriously doubt tickets in Honduras would be 30 bucks, something which they could easily get 10k Honduran immigrants to do in LA.
Re: Respuesta: Re: Will you watch the ccl this year? I watch a fair amount of Copa Lib. Its exciting when there's a big crowd. As for Uefa CL, I have stuff to do during the day and watching soccer on replay is just something I dont get. I think its an ethnic thing, with people of caucasian descent much more willing to go through those hoops for that tournament. I'm not a big soccer-in-the-morning fan either. Soccer should be watched at night. Most agree with me too, as this is why MLS moved all their games to night time. Remember those noon time kick offs in MLS? You'd get maybe 5k fans.
I'll be watching again this year even though my team, Sporting KC, will not be in the tournament yet again. As a fan of MLS, last year was by far the most exciting tournament so far. Let's hope for another strong run by a couple of MLS teams.
Ill watch Monterrey games or @ lest the direct match ,the ones that are after de groupe stage, were if Mty pass ill be sure they are going to put there starteds
Elimination games in the CCL both pre-group and post-group: Mexico; has never lost an Elimination game to a non-Mexican team Honduras has been eliminated by; Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada Puerto Rico has been eliminated by; Mexico, El Salvador USA has been eliminated by; Puerto Rico, T&T, Panama, Mexico. Canada has been eliminated by; Mexico, Puerto Rico Guatemala has been eliminated by; Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras Costa Rica has been eliminated by; Mexico, Puerto Rico, Honduras, T&T, USA Panama has been eliminated by; Mexico, T&T, Honduras, USA
Well, I want to watch. But the schedule is making it impossible. I mean, I get that weeknight games are tough to schedule. But this week, here's the schedule for the MLS teams on American television in my time zone (EDT). Tuesday: 10 PM-Midnight: Sounders-Communicaciones. Wednesday: 12:30-2:30 AM (delay): Galaxy - Motagua 10 PM - Midnight: Colorado - Metapan Thursday: 12:30 - 2:30 AM (delay): Pumas - Dallas 8 -10 PM: Tauro - Toronto I know some of this is unavoidable, but it's still annoying. Lately it seems like US soccer broadcasts in general are getting later and later--the US-Mexico game in Philly started at 9:00 local time on a Wednesday, for instance, and national MLS broadcasts often start at 9 or 10 Eastern. I get that Seattle and Los Angeles have to start at a reasonable local time, but the fact that every single group stage game is starting at either 8:00 or 10:00 Eastern makes me think this is a broadcast requirement. A lot of teams are kicking off at 9:00 local time, which seems late to me for a Tuesday or Wednesday night game (though this might be a cultural thing--looking at the schedule, a lot of weeknight UEFA CL games kick off at 8:45 local time). As a result, I'll probably end up watching fewer games. I like watching MLS teams compete, but unless it's my own team, I'm not going to either stay up until 3 AM or stay off the internet the whole next day.
CCL is such a great, quirky tournament. You have the huge rich clubs from Mexico, Canada, and the USA with their sparkling new stadiums playing in places like tiny, colonial Metapan. You have weather conditions as different as Toronto's frigid cold, San Pedro Sula's humidity, the D.F.'s altitude, and Guatemala's cold rain. You have CONCACAF refs who are, let's say, "unpredictable." I know many people like the glamour of the Euro CL, but I love the quirky, diverse, mystifying CCL. It may not be the best Champions' League but it's OUR Champions' League.
Totally agree though make take awhile before mexican club dominance of this competition comes to an end hopefully someday we will have the underdog story where a small team who came from no where, go on to win the championship or even make the final would be great
I feel the same. Coming from a parity based league to the huge diversity of CCL is a blast, imo. I would like the smaller clubs to be given a fair chance though. This week I'm just hoping my Rapids don't melt from the heat and humidity in San Pedro Sula.
