Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA Doubt there will be a fifa (as we know it now) by 2022 much less a world cup in Qatar.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA This. Also: With the way things are going with the English FA probably leaving FIFA, I'd see the end of FIFA coming in the next 5-7 years (but definitely before the '22 WC; maybe before the '18 WC). If England leaves, then other countries might follow. I'd see the U.S. and Australia leaving FIFA with England. OFC might follow the Aussies out the door with CONCACAF (maybe not all) following the U.S. out the door. Should CONCACAF (most if not all), OFC, Australia, England (maybe others in UEFA) leave, I see CAF having no choice but to leave FIFA. CONMEBOL, what's left of AFC, and what's left of UEFA will hold out for as long as they can. If CONMEBOL leaves FIFA (after the above happens), then that's the final blow to FIFA. We'll see what happens within as early as later this year and as late as three to four years from now. edit: Lets have a naming contest for the "new" football federation.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA If England steps away, FIFA simply slams them down and says, "England can no longer partake in FIFA international events and any national team that does play them is subject to penalty." Furthermore, why would the United States step away from FIFA? They're part of CONCACAF which is run by Jack Warner, who is a staunch Sepp Blatter supporter. Warner will not take CONCACAF away from FIFA. The OFC? Why would they leave? They pretty much have nothing to gain from leaving FIFA which basically gives them money. Why would members of the AFC leave? With the 2002 World cup and now the 2022 world cup FIFA is obviously focusing on the Asian part of the world and its pretty much a given that China will get the 2034 World Cup should they choose to bid (which I think they will). Members of the AFC are not going to throw that out of the window. Furthermore the head of the AFC is Mohammed Bin Hammam who is angling for Blatter's job. He will NOT get it if he tries to pull the AFC out of FIFA and joining in the fight against FIFA corruption would most certainly expose what he and Qatar did to get the 2022 World Cup, so he will stay silent on the matter and bide his time. The most "ideal" situation is that members of various governments across the world do a probe into FIFA that exposes the massive corruption. The scandal forces Blatter and his cronies to resign or be removed from office and a "new" FIFA taking it's place. The sham of a bidding process for the 2022 World Cup is also exposed forcing either A) A new "emergency" bidding process or B) An awarding to one of the losing countries. FIFA won't go anywhere guys, sorry to say.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA Then the U.S. will walk away from CONCACAF and FIFA leaving Mexico as the dominate football team with no real competition within the confederation. Have fun, Canada. Okay...they can stay. Have fun with the corrupt bastards. Waiting... Either one the U.S. would be the favorite. But even when the first vote came out, the U.S. was the favorite and still lost. So who knows... The most we can hope for is a little late spring cleaning.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA Who in the US has the pull in the soccer world to pull us out of CONCACAF? It's not exactly on Obama's desk right now. The US answers to Jack Warner for now and he runs CONCACAF just as corrupt as FIFA is. But unfortunately, no one has the pull in CONCACAF to actually make some noise about such a pullout of FIFA. Warner has made sure of that. Yeah, the OFC really is a joke. You'll be waiting for awhile, I would say that if any organization will investigate FIFA it will be the EU but I'm not familar with how hardcore they might be about discovering whats going on there so I can't speculate. It certainly won't be the United States. Indeed.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA I'll take that bet. FIFA (as we currently know it) will be done and dusted within 3 years. Ex fifa big wig Zen Ruffinen is confirming the Qatar bribes bit according to todays Telegraph. The can of worms has been opened.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA What can of worms? There have been allegations and people admitting about corruption within FIFA since at least 2006 and nothing was done. How is this any different?
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA Note the top four stories. Then note the dates that they were published. http://www.google.com/search?q=zen+ruffinen+telegraph Nothing to see here, move along.
Hiliarious article in The Economist: Offside Time to blow the whistle and put the right to host the World Cup on eBay http://www.economist.com/node/18681960?story_id=18681960
I bought the Economist today and that was one of their lead articles. It's unusual for a mainstream non tabloid publication to ridicule an international organisation so much. So it's indicative of just how much flack FIFA is getting. In regards to the previous poster England aren't going to leave FIFA, as much as I'd dearly love them to. If they left FIFA they'd get kicked out of the WC and the EUROS, the EPL would have it's rights as a UEFA/FIFA recognised league stripped and the players that played in the EPL wouldn't be able to represent their nations. Furthermore the EPL would have no Euro places. As much as I think the English FA would want out of FIFA they simply can't leave it. What they need to do is build up a power base of disaffected nations. However if you know anything about the FA, it's that it's lead by incompetant idiots who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery and not by real football people. So I doubt they'd be able to create an anti-Blatter lobby.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA And the FA would no longer be required to let go of their players on FIFA-sanctioned international matchdays if they're no longer FIFA members. Sunil Gulati doesn't have the balls to stand up to Jack Warner, let alone FIFA.
Re: Boycott Qatar 2022, and banish them from FIFA It probably will be the EU. Power in FIFA is starting to shift away from Europe and into Asia. At some point, the Europeans are going to get upset when they no longer run the show and they'll start scheming some way to get power back. This is when they may get their governments involved to try to bring down FIFA and then their "solution" will be to create a new body that is more "transparent" and whatnot, but based in Europe and run mostly by Europeans once again, of course... So England is just the first European nation to feel snubbed, but wait until France and Germany start feeling that way too, and then things will get interesting.
Qatar will be intending to bid for other big events in the future. If they announce that for the World Cup they had bribed everybody up to and including the Pope it's not going to help their chances, because other organisations won't want to get embroiled in the sort of fiasco that FIFA are facing. So,like I said, what would they stand to gain?
Re: Federations stepping away from FIFA? The article actually said that they want to resolve everything internally... the only vage reference to a breakup from FIFA is the hesitant everything is possible line... in other words same old politics. This is the same FA by the way that are backing up Blatter for the upcoming elections. Go figure. Like I always said what happened in the 2010 votes were just business as usual, the difference being some new kid came into the game and beat the old boys at their own game (lobbying or imo bribing) now the old boys are crying foul. What I am waiting for from the UK media to tell me is what did the England bid committee promised to the 5 voters they thought they had. If you are playing the game clean and fair what is the point of this lobbying they did, how did they go into that day thinking they had "secured" 5 votes.
That won't happen because they are FIFA... they are part of the problem... all these headlines that are showing up now in the news are because England has their parliament look into why their bid fail. By the end of next month all this will be forgotten and everyone will go back to playing politics inside FIFA. The English FA has already thrown their support behind Blatter by the way for next month elections. This is just politics as usual.
Where were you when FIFA first talked about moving the '22 WC from the summer months to the winter months? They were PISSED!
You're right they are not backing Blatter... they are leaving FIFA... no wait they actually are backing the revolutionary challenger to Blatter: Mr Bin Hammam. That must be a real sign that they don't want any part of FIFA.
FACT: The FA have not announced who they are backing, and have not even met to decide such. http://www.insideworldfootball.biz/news/1-latest-news/9192-england-may-abstain-voting-for-blatter-or-bin-hammam-at-fifa-election
