I'd say that "hi lurkers" was a pretty big tip-off.

Really? So does any criticism of TTM's work have to have a qualifier in it that Mr. Warmth has been a bad, bad boy?
    Fair enough.

"His own reasons" are pretty obvious to me. TTM was extremely dismissive about Mike's concerns about slurs against American Indians. He didn't even want to consider Mike's complaints.

Again, I reiterate: TTM never even acknowledged that ICF was in the wrong. You gave out the infraction. ICF did ultimately cop to having done what he did out of ignorance, but TTM was too piqued about the Mike's use of the word "wetback" to acknowledge other forms of racial insensitivity in front of his face.

Does this excuse what Mike did? Nope, and since people seem to be confused on this point, I don't have any argument with a infraction's being handed down. It's certainly not how I would've gone forward. But if you want to talk about "thumbing his nose," maybe you should have a look at someone who found every reason in the world not to punish a user for using a racial slur against American Indians. He condoned bigotry against another racial group and did so rather loudly.

Again, if your definition of "letting a poster off easy" includes telling the poster rather loudly why you are not punishing slurs against that particular poster's ethnicity, then yes, Mike was let off rather easily.

Let me ask you this: What avenues exist for supermod accountability? I know that if I'm a crummy mod, there are people above me who can jettison me from the job. (But then, I wouldn't get to see all the terrific posts in the Recycle Bin, and I would be a sad panda.) But how about you guys? If a supermod tells you why he's punishing slurs against his ethnicity and not yours, and it boils down to "you insulted my ethnicity," then what recourse do users have?

I've always told users that have had a problem with me to take it up in this forum or to complain to you guys. But Mike had a problem with one of you guys and he took it up in this forum already without much success. So he played "bait the supermod." Again, it's not the route I would've taken, and not one that I endorse, but I see where he's coming from.

And TTM has made clear that he isn't really interested in slurs against American Indians and he's quite willing to look the other way on slurs that don't involve Mexicans.

I do agree with you to a point. The autocensor does help tune down some things, and can be entertaining at points. But as just about everybody had alluded to here, it is imperfect, and as you have said, that is due to both contextual and spoken language. But, when somebody is reporting an issue as racist, how seriously is a mod to take that person. If I get a report, should I take you and Mr. Warmth at the same level? If somebody says that Mike should spend some time at Squ@w Valley, and he reports that as racist, should I take it seriously? And for ******** sake, if you are going to complain about racism, complain about sexism, too. It is as bad (quantity wise) as the Mexican slurs on this board.

Why lurk in a thread specifically in the hope of getting offending at a certain individual's posts?

I've heard the ludicrous red card ban on a certain indian poster was reduced to 30 days.

It's been longer than 30 days.

Is this an oversight, or is TTM just a complete dick?
I guess it could easily be both.

In any case, it's pretty clear that IcF's "aw shucks...I didn't MEAN it" shtick is perfectly acceptable.

Nice work, guys. You really inspire confidence.

Sorry Ross, but you know better than to call his red card "ludicrous." For that very specific incident, it may be (I'm not commenting on that issue), but he has had several reds in the past and has been forum banned from more than on location (I believe).

Now, as I have had some communication with him over the years, he is not bad person, but as a poster, he more than deserves a red. IMO, it is his longevity that has helped him stay around.

As for ICF, well, let me just say that I have not read his post thoroughly enough to respond with depth.

No offense, but based on the exchanges that have gone on, you seem fairly eager to assume the worst about us so not sure it's worth the effort to try to convince you otherwise.

    Thank you. None taken.

I don't take offense at Fox News, either.

It's pretty obvious to anyone paying attention that certain BigSoccer administrators / moderators have a vendetta against Segroves.

It's also obvious that certain BigSoccer administrators / moderators have serious power trips and need to learn to get over themselves.

Modern day equivalent of "Oooh, look at me! I'm a bulletin board sysop!"

Someone took Operation Geronimo a little too serious I guess.

The irony of me being freed on Cinco de Mayo is delicious, like a cold Tecate.

Hey, welcome back. Why do you still have a yellow card? Part of the vendetta, I guess.

BTW, could you weigh in on the Geronimo thread in PC&E? Or does the vendetta extend to a ban from that forum?

    Thanks.

No explanation, but I don't believe it's a vendetta from DK, I assume it's a trial period to ensure that I am able to conduct myself in a responsible manner, not using racial slurs on the "official list", directly or indirectly.

I've been banned from there for several years. Something about offending each and every Iranian on BigSoccer. But if DK wants to lift that ban, I would be happy to weigh in, being the de facto spokesman for NDN Country on BigSoccer.

That's because it doesn't exist anymore. But don't worry, the slur didn't offend enough of the right people to matter.

A lot of people say a lot of pretty offensive things in PC&E, and it's pretty rare to see someone banned. I guess the sysops really do have it out for you. :)

Iranians are a protected class. They drive a lot of traffic on BigSoccer, so I hear.

Bump. Any chance getting explanations regarding:

    1. Why Mr Warmth still has a yellow card?
    2. Why Mr Warmth is still banned from the Politics & Current Events forum?

No - we aren't discussing every decision related to Mr. Warmth. If you have input, feel free to contact the mods of the forums.
