I remember even a few months after AC started playing there were threads here that were 20+ pages in a relatively short amount of time. But now AC is dead and a thread started last November only has 6 pages?? Where and why did everyone go?? I thought these were the die hards.
I haven't been here for awhile, so in no way am I speaking for anyone else but myself. As a fan, I felt like we've been pulled through the ringer. Constant questions about the team's future, practically from the moment the whistle blew on the home opener. It was tiring, and frankly, I was tired of talking and/or wondering about whether I'd have a team to cheer for in 2011. I figured I'd just ignore all the rumors and take a break from worrying until I knew the official word. It kind of made the actual announcement a little easier to take. Now? Gotta find another team (in America) to root for, but it won't be the same. I've never been a big MLS follower, but may try to adopt a team there. Sporting KC? Chicago Fire? I live in Southern Illinois, nothing nearby, unfortunately. But alas, that's the situation we find ourselves in. It's kind of sad to see this place so quiet.
But the official announcement just came yesterday. It was on Charlie Brennan's show on KMOX. That is all the more reason to VENT! After all forums are mainly here for us to vent!
I just thought I'd see tons of angry posts here ripping Cooper and management and other opinions. There were just so many posts and expressions on here I thought you'd still have that crowd here but even MORE angry since they team was pulled out from under them yet again!
After everything that's happened over the past year, I think a lot of us are vented out and just don't give a crap about Cooper and his shenanigans anymore.
But after the official announcement yesterday that got some media attention in St.Louis I thought it would've rekindled the fires on here. Actually Cooper is supposed to come out with an official official announcement soon. I wonder what kind of malarkey will come out of that!
Like I said, I wasn't surprised by the announcement at all. I had pretty much accepted it and it was closure, really. Now if Cooper comes out and says something really dumb, maybe I'll be more angry. But this whole thing was just a mess.
a lot of us "die hards" are also St.Louligans, so we have moved most of our discussions to Facebook and the St.Louligans website. Most people who did post on here that were AC fans are with us. I'll also point out that as saddened as we are about AC St.Louis, watch for some very cool news soon that doesn't have to do with AC.
If this is about the Lions moving up to USL Pro for 2012, it's becoming the worst-kept secret in soccer. If it's about something else entirely, and the Lions aren't moving up, good job fooling me!
But normal people don't go to facebook. Plus this is basically a soccer ONLY site so you should be doing your venting here! I guess if it is the Lions moving up I can see them since they'll have nothing to do with Cooper and the death of the Athletica.
"normal people don't go to facebook"?...if you say so. St.Louligan page on facebook is up to 94 people, and we try to make sure they are actually soccer fans. It also includes some Athletica fans (Liz, Kyle, Johnny Stats, etc) you should check it out, if it's not below you. I can say that the news is not the Lions moving up, yet. But it does involve them and, IMO, is a very big deal.
agree with the above. We've basically known that AC is dead since the beginning of December and most of us vented then. Players and Front Office personnel have known for some time and the info was leaked almost immediately. The report that broke yesterday was old news and we're vented out. Plus the fact that most of us have been accused of being too negative and told to keep the faith got real old real quick. As for normal people not being on facebook. I gotta say about 90% of the fans that were in the corner at the AC games are on facebook. Facebook has become an indispensable tool to communicate with fans and to keep abreast of what's going on with the team. Now on to the Lions. And the news that is coming is huge. Not USL-Pro, yet, but very good news for St. Louis Soccer fans. Follow the Lions, the Louligans, and the chickenhead page to keep up with what we're doing and what the Lions are doing.
I don't have any venting left to do. And honestly, what good would it do? I have found BigSoccer to be a closed off and artificial echo chamber for fans that like to imagine they love the game. Only a handful of the people I met at the games had even heard of BigSoccer.
Who gives a shit about crying over AC? And why in the hell would you promote it? A lot of us have better shit to do, like support the Lions and a few other clubs since, ya know, that's what soccer fans do. And yeah, most of us are on Facebook. Not a message board. Perhaps you feel we should step it up and start using mIRC again. And Toon, "worst kept secret"? Really? It isn't a "secret" because as of right now, there's absolutely no truth to it besides them wishing to move up and only if it makes sense financially. Good job on not only being wrong but horribly arrogant about it as well.
You guys got along fine for DECADES without that site created by that MEGA nerd. It's not like facebook helped attendance at AC games! LMAO! Plus facebook will go bust eventually. There is no way a company that doesn't produce a single product could be worth so much! We should be discussing soccer on BigSoccer!
Oh, wow, you got me! If only I'd admitted I might be wrong in my post, perhaps I wouldn't have seemed so "horribly arrogant". Like maybe I could've said something like "If it's about something else entirely, and the Lions aren't moving up, good job fooling me!" That would've done the trick. Then again, even if I did say that, some goon with poor reading comprehension would probably come along and get butthurt about it anyway. You can't win.
Claiming a complete and total rumor to be poorly kept secret like you figured out what was being alluded to makes you a pretentious twat. But yeah, keep talking out of your ass and cry when people call you out on doing just that. Or as you put it, "butthurt".
The official announcement hasn't been made, but they have become an affiliate of Celtic. They are still waiting for Celtic to officially announce it before they can make a statement.
Sorry, my post was started before you replied demunb. That's a pretty cool announcement. I can't wait to hear more details as to how much that affiliation really means. And how that might affect the Lions plans for moving up a division or two!
