Re: Beckham rips into MLS refs...video. Beckham should consider reducing his own contribution of atrocious tackles before complaining about refereeing. The dive by Davies, for example, was bad...but is LA even in position to win that match if Beckham had been (deservedly) sent off earlier?
He's leading the league in yellow cards with 5 YC in 6 matches played right. So he has to complain about something. You don't expect him to take responsibility for those 5 yellows himself do you?
You cant have a fat Paris Hilton running around hacking players down thinking he is above the law. He was lucky not to get a red last weekend.
I am sure everyone noticed, Beckham charges like a bull in a china store and he bitches about the refs. Come on already..
I can't believe you called Beckham fat, are you serious? MLS refs suck and Beckham thinks he is always right, so what, tell me something i didn't know, but fat?
There are players who should be complaining about calls last night (or one in particular), but they weren't in Toronto.
The referee in the Toronto vs. Galaxy game was indeed awful, but Beckham was having a right whinge about his yellow card during the game; a yellow card that was clearly a yellow card as he was late as hell. Beckham should pay for MLS to have more professional refs. That'd solve his problem.
The way Becks was tackling that 1st half, I'm guessing he already had a vacay planned this weekend.... Never had any intention of heading to Chicago. The dude wanted a yellow. He doesn't have the heart for the game anymore.
This is pretty much true. As much as I love the guy, having grown up in the 90s and 00s and seeing him at his prime from about 98-07 (when he was one of the world's best players - something often forgotten because people assume that because he was a celeb he wasn't really that good at playing) he's well past it. He's had some bright spots in his MLS career but his heart's never been fully in it, he's lost elements of his game and he should retire at the end of this season. I do think he was (and is) genuinely sincere about spreading the game in America and he has done a lot for the league but he simply came too soon. When he got back into the Real and England teams his focus was split and has been his entire time in America. If he'd come along a year or two later when his career in Europe was definitively over he might have been more effective. People have always expected too much of him though, the way people talk on this board it's like they expect him to be scoring hatricks and dominating the team a la Messi or Ronaldo. He's never been that kind of player though, he's a provider and needs good players around him to make the most of his talents. Even his scoring ability, which was something to be afraid of at Manchester United, was kinda beaten out of him at Real because that was Zidane and Figo's job and his job was solely service.
I agree with you on most points you make, but i think he still has talent. It is that as you state his best weapon is providing service, but if there are no top class forwards to read the game and know when to make their runs, Beckham is wasted. Remember MLS fans saying he sucked and he went to AC Milan (first loan) and he played great. It is their lack of understanding of the game. He is getting older and i have not seen LA play this year. MLS teams recruit superstar are better off going after players that make plays for themselves and are big strong and fast, because they are going to get foul a lot and will get very few calls. MLS refs let too much go. Messi would get killed in this league, Ronaldo would be better suited for the punishment.
Yeah but the talent is not what's earning him yellow cards. What is up with these crazy late tackles? I remember when he got sent off in 2009 against Seattle... He aimed 12 studs at Pete Vagenas's shins and maybe 4 of them connected. But it was just a squirrely ball at midfield 20 minutes in... that tackle isn't going to win anything... why make it? Is this the defense we should expect from a set-piece taker ending his career?
i cant believe I am saying this, but I am with David on this one. besides Alex Prus, the refs in this league are AYSO-grade.
I agree with you about Prus, but Becks has deserved (from what I can remember) all the yellow cards he's earned this year. I mean, last night, he just ran about 20 feet while de Guzman was on the ball and just sailed into him, scything him down from behind. Stupid, reckless tackle. If he'd just fess up to his own responsbility for these yellow cards - be a little accountable - the rest of the MLS soccer community might not laugh at him so much when he goes off on rants like this.
You have a rough and physical game with hard and tactical fouls. Two scenarios Referee issues five yellows in the first half (all correct). Fans complain the ref is trying to make himself center of attention and is ruining the game. Referee only issues one yellow (which was correct) and could have issued a few more but didn't. Fans complain that the ref isn't punishing players who are slowing the game down enough and therefore the ref is ruining the game.
The referee wasn't the best last night, but both teams were getting some iffy fouls called against them. Beckham fully deserved his yellow last night, you cant slide at a player and wipe him out without making a play on the ball and expect anything less. Becks was likely just frustrated after the game last night, outside of his free kick off the post, Tchani and JDG did a good job of neutralizing his overall impact.
