[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6wRkzCW5qI"]YouTube - 40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes[/ame] Gentlemen, we've made it. It's officially today. It's time.
Last year's table was so bifurcated that it's really an outlier, but last year the playoff cut was 1.53 points/game due to the unusually large gap between San Jose and Kansas City. The historical median is still 1.38 points/game with no lasting correlation between ppg and games played at the playoff cut. At 34 games scheduled this season, that rounds off to 47 points. OTOH, if last year's pattern plays out again, the cut would be 52 points. So the short answer is anywhere from 45-52. EDIT: 45 represents what the cut would be at 1.33 points/game, which is what it was in fact from 2006-2009. At the other end, if it's any higher than 52, it would be a red flag that the league may be becoming stratified, despite the safeguards in place to prevent it.
Oh Jeesus...is there really a need for math on this forum? I was driving 85, in a 55 on I-70 and all those numbers F)(@&%R me up.
Beat me to it. I'd calculated up, in a WAY less scientific way, that 48 points would get a team in the playoffs this season. I break our season down like this for what we need to accomplish to make the playoffs: 1) First 10 games on the road - 10 points - anything less and we're fighting an uphill battle. 2) June 9 - July 16 nine games five being at home - 14 points - Gold Cup will really test our depth. 3) July 23 - Sept 10 nine straight home games - 18 point - we should get more points than this on such a long home stand. 4) Final 6 games half at home half away - 8 points - this is pure guess and all depends on form but three of these games will be tough (Crew, RSL, NY) That's 50 points and one of the last teams in the playoffs.
Never seen that before. Freaking awesome. Pull that one out when you're having a bad day and all is right in the world.
Less than 9 hours. I've only been a strong supporter for a few years, about 3, but I can't remember being this excited. 3 points would be great, but I'd be pretty happy with 1. I think the goats will be better this year. 1-0 or 1-1 would make me pretty happy. Go Sporting!
Standing by my 4-1 away blowout comb prediction- I'd like to know if we should expect to see Milos starting, or my main man Zusi
Come to Johnny's early! We need to get and reserve tables ASAP. You'd be tailgating by 6:30, come down and watch some early MLS and the KState game
Any recommendations on where to watch in Lawrence? I called Lyon but they said they wouldnt have it on until after the Kstate game.
Wow. Did anyone else catch "Shep Unleashed" during the NY-SEA half-time? Basically all he talked about was how "stupid and pretentious" Sporting Kansas City is, and then how the Chad Ochocinco move is just lame fake publicity. Whoever decided Shep needs his own segment needs to die.
I honestly didn't even know he was still around. While I'd wager there are even people here who would agree with him, it was the least informative minute of my life. I can only hope that the brain cells that remember those 60 seconds instantly killed themselves in order to prevent the rest of my mind from recalling it.
Yeah, I think you said it well. There are many other people who agree with him, he just delivers it in such a biased, douchy way. I'm surprised he can say some of the things he does with out getting reprimanded by the league. And... theres a goal from CJ.
three points- the away boys are making great noise- if you guys check this we can hear you loud and clear on the Chivas broadcast
Awesome goal, great first touch. Any one know what the quickest goal by a rookie is? I could see this one being a record. Annnnd, MLS matchday just push updated my phone, calling it a Sassano goal...
