OK everybody! It time to start the MLS game threads for the 2011 again. Opening game of the 2011 MLS season is just 12 days away.
I am so excited! Long range weather forecasts indicate their may be snow on that day... Just kidding...but the weather has been so wacky anything is possible.

    Projected Starting Line-up

    Bouna or Sutton
Tainio or Albright, Ream, Rafa, Miller
    Solli, Tchani, Ballouchy, Lindpere
    Dane, Titi

Game will be on TV but not sure on which channel yet...Locally, it is expected MSG Network will air most, if not all of the matches not being televised by a national outlet.

Short week for Seattle remember, they play in the league-opener on Tuesday vs. Los Angeles.

Short week and travel across the country? Game is a must-win for the Red Bulls.

not to mention Seattle was just outscored by 2 expansion teams 4-2

also, i hope that dane isn't played up to next to titi. from what i've read, that was just a temporary stop-gap for preseason when agudelo got injured.

I agree Dane on the flank is where he should play...Hopefully Agudelo will be back soon enough...

    projected lineup
[LINEUP-4-4-2]Agudelo, Henry, Solli, Lindpere, Tchani, Richards, Borman/Miller, Ream, Marquez, Taino, Condoul[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

However I feel that Ballouchy will find his way into the starting 11 somehow.. Gut feeling, also he's not that bad of a player as some of you make him out to be. He's having a decent preseason.

This game is going to be a good test for the red bulls early on. Seattle is a top 4 team in the MLS, tons of talent. Hopefully Marquez gives Montero a elbow here and there.

Edit: what about the rookies are they going to make the team? Lassiter, Mauer, etc..

From what's being reported out there, it's pretty doubtful that Agudelo will be healthy in time for the game. Rodgers still isn't healthy and I think that Backe will prefer Richards playing up top with Henry rather than Salou. This makes me think Ballouchy will find his way into the lineup.

At this point it's probably a toss up between Bouna and Sutton.

I will be there. I'm season ticket holder. (Even though I haven't received my tix as of yet).

Backe told MLSsoccer.com that out-of-favor forward Salou Ibrahim was not considered an option to replace either Agudelo or Rodgers in a starting lineup.

    Thank the heavens.

Backe did say in a more recent interview (sorry, I'm too lazy to go looking for a link) that Rodgers may be available off the bench in the opener. For whatever that's worth.

I am looking forward to opening day, but I was wondering about how ticket sales were going which the Red Bulls have not revealed so I went back to the website to pretend to buy tickets and we are not close to a sell out yet. The upper midfield sections are still just in rows 7 to 9 (and the 1st row in those sections is row 5) although some of the other sections are in the upper teens most are not above row 9.

There is still this last week where a bunch of tickets do often get sold but a sell out looks very unlikely. I am just hoping for a good loud crowd. Anything less than 20K would be incredibly disappointing and we are not close to that yet.

My tickets arrived today. I'm pumped! I bought mine on the Red Bulls site, but there are tickets being sold on StubHub too. I'm hoping for a sell out, but 20 k and rocking would be great as well.

If Agudelo isn't fit in time, I think that's what we will see. I would rather not see Ballouchy but we are out of options.

Backe said in a recent interview that Rodgers may be able to come in off the bench. Hopefully that will knock Richards back to MF and Ballouchy back to the bench.

It would be tough to see Rodgers starting right off the bat since he has had little time training with the team and has seen zero game action in the pre-season. If he can come in and give 15-20 minutes, then they can take Ballouchy off but I think Mehdi finds a way to start.

It's tough to make conclusions from available tickets on the website. I bought extras for this game over a month ago and the best they had was Row 13 in 226, but now I see Row 9. Looks like they were holding on to them in the hopes of getting season tickets for those, but that failed.

Anyway, hard to say right now, but with stubhub being flooded with tickets and majority of them being listed below face value, it's not looking great for actual turnout.

Man I hope there's a solid crowd. You would think that with all the improvements made by this team last year, the gorgeous stadium, and about 18 million people to draw from in the greater metropolitan area, we could get 25,000 to come out and support this team on opening night.

I really rather focus on sold tickets announced attendance, but I buy your reasoning as to why some of the lower rows are now available when they weren't previously. It is wierd as section 224 is in row 18 while section 226 is in row 9 and the two adjoining sections are in rows 7 or 6 (3rd & 2nd rows actual). It could mean that as soon as those lower rows are sold that the next available row will jump to row 14.

Nonetheless, I think it is looking hard pressed to get an announced crowd of 20K. Monday to Wednesday will give a good indication of that as last year always showed that those dates is where a lot of people bought tickets.

I know I am running the risk of someone suggesting that we should stop bitching about attendance immediately. However, I share your sentiment exactly. I cannot comprehend how we had 25-27k for openers 10 years ago and now can't even come close to matching that with new gorgeous stadium, much better product on the field in the league general, and a good team featuring Henry and Marquez, among others.

The only thing is that I have seen absolutely ZERO advertising by the team. I was hoping this would be a sell-out to generate momentum for further games, but sounds like we will have to wait till August 28th for the only sell-out.
