And this is why I hate being an STH, these freaking deals.

Edit: Here's the response from LAG's FB: GroupOn made a mistake in the wording that we're aware of and aiming to fix. Its a 17-game pack with none of the season ticket holder benefits.

Cancel your season tickets next season and say you can get better deals elsewhere. If they are anything like cable companies, they'll offer you discounts to stay as a STH. If not, you can look out for deals like this one.

Ok let me rephrase, this is why it's frustrating to be an STH. I originally became one because of the exclusive benefits of it.. but we all know how that's going lol.

I'm the exact opposite i'd rather get a cheaper price without all the "perks".

You are a smart person. I for some reason re-upped and got friends to buy the seats next to mine. Maybe next year I'll wisen up.

Right, but with this deal, you don't get to choose anything in regards to where you sit. I am sure that they are the worst seats in the house.

Granted I have never been an STH until splitting this year, but the cost is pretty solid, if you have been around long enough.

Not having to buy tickets for every game is nice. Scrounging around for deals every time can be annoying. Especially after my favorite Ticket rep left and he was giving me the best price to every game...

    sigh.

It says section 117. Isn't that where the away fans normally sit?

If you take this Groupon deal then you won't get the awesome season ticket perks like the "meet the team event" !

    From that link:

Witness the U.S. World Cup team banana kick and back tackle their way through an exciting new season as they face off against teams including the New England Revolution (March 20), Seattle Sounders (July 4), and their archrivals Chivas USA (October 16). Depending on the Galaxy's ability to take names and kick grass this year, fans might see the team's "big three," comprised of the blazing Landon Donovan, superstar David Beckham, and score-savvy Juan Pablo Angel, executing a human pyramid in perfect unison. With the first option, soccer zealots can check out any one of the 17 home games of the season, and those choosing the second option can cheer, clap, and streak across the stands wearing sequined shin guards in a show of support for six separate matches.

    I bolded my favorite parts...

My company did Groupon. They insist on some fairly colorful language to sell stuff & be hip.

I wondered if it was something like that. Can't deny how successful that Groupon has been. Hope it leads to more sell outs this year.

All things considered, I'd be paying 7 bucks less a ticket and wouldn't be with LARS or a SG. That's without the three bonus tickets, which are likely to include a Rose Bowl, CCL and/or Playoff match, which conservatively adds another 100 bucks onto the total.

Oh and one perk I do value is parking in Lot 12. I don't know exactly how far the CSDH campus extends, but some of the places I've ended up through general parking have made me say "Toto, I don't think we're in Carson anymore".

So I think I'm getting a decent deal still. At least that's what I tell myself.

It should also be noted that this is likely a tactic to get NEW FANS into the mix, which will likely lead to a sales effort to get them to re-up at full price for the following season.

My own experience with Galaxy/MLS, was that I thought it was cheesy, until I took my baby son to a game in 1997 and I was literally hooked like a crack addict, started following the team/league closely, and bought a partial package, and a full package in 1998.

So, it's not a bad tactic to bring in new customers, although the downside is alienating some of your regular STH's.

As to the comment about them being crappy seats, I have yet to find a bad seat in Victoria Street. I currently sit near the middle behind the team benches, I've sat on the field seats, sat in level 2, sat with the Riot Squad and the ACB, had a corporate suite, and either ends of the goal. All of them have their ups and downs, but none are crappy. I've never sat in the restaurant seats, but I heard they're the worst. It looks like it would be fun to take a date to, though.

Gotta admit, this kind of pisses me off. Feel like a sucker for buying season tickets, but then again, I don't have to sit next to away fans, and I'm only 2 rows up from the front row.

If I had to sit next to Sad Jose fans, I'd be tempted to bring a Louisville Slugger.

is this true? i wanna get in on the deal and go to my first soccer game, but if this is true, i'd rather not go...
and anyone know if section 117 is a "crazy" section where fans sing and dance? if i do buy tickets, this would be my 1st game, so i'm not really sure about all of this stuff...i do know that 117 are bench seats. how are those?

117 is for away fans. Don't do it. And no, the SG's are in 121/122 and 138.

Just get a seat in 121.......you'll love it

Also depends on who we are playing. if it's Seattle or San Jose there will be a sizable group of them. I havent been lurking on other teams SG board but i highly doubt we will see a bunch of revs, DC, union, ect fans

im not really the stand up and cheer/sing type of guy...and the deal is only for seats in 117...so i guess that's why it's a deal...

but i did some research. the galaxy website says that there's not really any designated seating for visiting teams' fans, just that they should stay away from 121/122/137/138.

anyways, i already bought tickets for 2 (my dad and i) for a single game, and hopefully it'll be fun!

It's rather rare when we have "away fans". Basically just Chivas, Seattle and San Jose right?

This season you can probably add "The Dream of the '90s is Alive in" Portland to that list.

Portland is a city where young people go to retire.

That Portland video is hilarious. Is Portlandia any good? Haven't seen it yet.

It all depends on what you want. If you want the absolute cheapest way to get into the building possible, waiting for these deals to come out is the way to go. Just know you're going to spend A LOT of time in the will call line (especially for big games), and you have no idea where your seats will be from week-to-week.

I'm a STH because I like knowing that I'll have 2 on the aisle I want behind the goal for every game, and if I get bored there, I can just sneak into the RS. I like knowing the family behind me that drives up from almost San Diego for every game will be there no matter how early I show up, and I even like knowing that the only noise the guy 2 rows up and across the aisle from me will make the entire game is yelling "********" on goal kicks. I know when to leave before halftime to hit the bathroom, and what the least crowded beer and food stands are from experience. I wouldn't mind if the cotton candy guy didn't have a knack for showing up and blocking my view whenever we have a big free or corner kick, but at least I know what's happening. Hell, I even like the fact that there's a person whose job it is to make me feel good about having season seats, even though the only thing i've ever gotten out of it is a blanket, a thing to hold my tickets in, some coffee mugs, flash drives, and a couple of badly made scarves.

If you like familarity/stability, get season tickets. If you want the cheapest way in possible, Groupon/Goldstar/etc have plenty of options. Seems pretty easy to me.
