Yeah, he fills the role that would otherwise have gone to Chinn. It still means playing mostly in reserve matches. My guess is they'll look to offload his contract at some point this season, hoping not to be forced into a buyout. Otherwise, even Chinn's small salary is a luxury when also paying Salou. It's an expensive way of doing business; but all these Euro-experienced players come with a price tag.

What RB see in Salou is totally beyond my comprehension. Kind of like our previous love affair with Petrusucko.

To say the true, Backe never try to give a chance to Garcia and Chinn maybe play only 20minutes at all, not enough time to evaluar a player, I think Garcia can be a good player and Chinn maybe had not a super star qualities but compare to Salou he is a champ....

The fact of the matter is that Salou may be able to be sold to a European team, while Chinn and Garcia are not. I don't doubt Salou is on his way out.

Salou is a hold-up striker. We don't seem to have another one on the roster.

That and his guaranteed contract are the two reasons he wasn't cut (yet).

With the performance of last year I will have my doubt that any team will buy him over only if the RB pay 2/3 of his salary....

I would think having an entire year of training sessions, US Open Cup matches, and other friendlies is plenty of time to evaluate players.

Exactly. It's not like these guys are frozen in carbonite between games. The coaches seem them for hours every day. We see glimpses of their overall body of work.

His salary would be dirt-cheap by European standards. The bigger issue there would be that there are very few leagues over there whose transfer windows are still open.

We're likely stuck with him until at least June.

It brings tears to my eyes to see people even acknowledge this, so sick of hearing calls for the young kids to get playing time just for the sake of developing their talents or giving the fans a look at them.

Well I will preffer play Garcia or Chinn instead of Salou, or play Chiedgaze instead of Rodger or Nielsen, that the only he has doing for more than a year is collect salary with out play a single freaking game....

Now, if you will tell me that they will bring 20 Lindpere I will go for it in a second....

Why would you want Chigradze who has never played a professional game in his carrer to play over Nielsen or Rogers?

The point is, that if you will bring a international to occupy a spot of a American player is because he will produce and play better than the American players and Nielsen and Rodger has not play a shit just yet, so, I will prefer in between of the players that don't play anything for any reason, one American....

Explain how one would play Irving Garcia instead of Ibrahim Salou in a formation.

Or even Chinn for that matter. No one on the rest of the roster has the 'skillset' that Salou has. Even if you think he sucks (and I do too), it's hard to deny he has very unique attributes on our roster, especailly post-Wolyniec.

Maybe e has skills, but they are not effective here and he is making the salary of 4-1/2 Chinn's and that is the problem....

His salary isn't even an issue at this point is it? Aren't the Red Bulls obligated to pay him whether he stays or not? Its not as though either him or Chinn were going to see more than a few minutes every couple of months with the first team, might as well keep the guy who can hold up the ball decently well. And don't forget that Salou scored a few important goals at the beginning of last season, he's just as capable as Chinn as putting in scrappy goals.

Believe they can wipe his salary off the books but have to pay him off it they wave the guy. I say cut our losses and eat it.

You forget one thing, he has a guaranty contract until the end of the 2011 season, so if he stay or not they have to pay a full salary to him....

Chinn and Garcia have a bunch of years ahead, Salou is maybe in his last year of his career, and Chinn and Garcia together only draws 80K a year and Salou have a 264K salary and yes the salary is a issue.....

That's what I was wondering in my last post, since we're paying Salou's salary either way it isn't really a factor in who gets dropped, although I understand your point about the other two being long term players. However, in the end I don't think Chinn was ever going to be any more effective than Salou, he really didn't show all the much promise and I think in all this uproar people are starting to underrate Salou a bit, he's not entirely useless... It will be tough to assess the Garcia decision until we see how our new young midfielders like Rooney and Kassell perform, and whether or not they were worth dropping Garcia for.

Marco Polo? The Italian? Wasn't he playing in Mongolia? Did Kublai Khan release him? I still think he's too old.
