I remember us acquiring an international roster spot a year or two ago. I'm not worried about it, since we have too many players. We just trade Salou Ibrahim to Chivas USA for an international roster spot. Problem solved.
It looking that Nielsen will start the season in the Disability List the first half of the season and possible he will be waived when he return....
This looks like a good possibility with Nielsen having a chance to get cut at mid-season particularly if he can't get over his knee problem. Also Metrofanatic.com noted that there is a provision in those mysterious MLS roster rules where a team can buy out a guaranteed contract without impacting the salary cap. If this is true, Salou might still be cut.
Another sad Pietrovello history... I really don't see how they can waive Salou with out affecting the Salary Cap, because the section III-A of the MLS rules say that in any event the salary of the guaranty contract player have to be honored by the Team directly from his CAP...
Metz, this is the MLS where rule interpetations change based on situations teams needs change. It is never 100% of what you read and we will find out after the fact on most of these rules. Haven't we seen this about 100 times in the past 15 years or so from the MLS.
Metz, I was citing what Metrofanatic listed on their website which is usually correct. Since you are citing a specific part of the set of rules, I am sure you can post a link to the rule you cited? I would like to read it myself. Regarding the other poster, I don't think the MLS just keeps changing the rules randomly. They don't seem to list them all such as the mystery regarding roster spots 21 to 30 regarding who can be included to be exempt from the salary cap.
And then later the league amended the rules to allow an exception of one player per season to be released. The team still has to pay him, buying out his contract, but they also get the cap relief of having his contract off the books.
I miss that amendment, but if exist will be nice to send packing Salou and use that spot for some body else....
One gone: http://redbullsreader.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/red-bulls-part-ways-with-cortes/ Billy we hardly knew ya.
Well we even have deep Internationals players to send packing Salou and start Nielsen in the disability list, like that we will only need one more Inter. Spot to accommodate all the internationals players we have....
With Billy Cortes gone, there are still 32 players around. 28 are officially on the roster with contracts, listed here on the official website (or look up at Thomas' list in his earlier post). That leaves 4 players without a contract. Those are the 3 following draftees: Tyler Lassiter - D Teddy Schneider - D Jimmy Maurer - G and the current trialist: Teemu Tainio - M I'm guessing most would want Tainio to sign on, which would mean 2 of the 3 remaining draftees would have to be cut. Of course, there is the whole problem with having 2 internationals past the limit, so if Taino is brought in, 2 other internationals have to be given away, in which case the 3 remaining draftees would get to stay. As for those 2 international slots, Salou would be player #1 to drop. Player #2 seems like a much harder choice. I'm guessing this other player would go on a trade (probably for allocation money, since RB is in a constant need for that). If Nielsen starts on the disability list, then the team will be set for the first half of the season (assuming Salou goes).
Nielsen will start on IR, which opens up a slot. My guess is that Lassiter and Maurer will make the team. Schneider will be the odd man out unless a move is made, like dumping Salou.
Metz, as i have been telling you there are rules within the rules that nobody knows about that covers all these possibilities. If not, they just make up more as they go along. never get worked up over rules of MLS as nothing is really set in stone and in black and white. there are always interpretaions of said rules and misunderstandings. If that doesn't work, we come up with amendments....LOL
That was a clear thing that this two players have to go...They need to sign Snyder and Maurer and need the space for those....
it was, too bad for Chinn tho...we have a clear need for a striker who is healthy and compete right now...guess he just doesn't have the talent.
Hard to see what else Garcia could have done last year. I thought he was excellent every time he was on the field. We don't see practice day-to-day though, so who knows. Either way, best of luck to these guys. The most fun I had last year turned out to be the US Open Cup games watching the baby Bulls in front of the tiny crowds.
