At Ajax you can buy tickets at the stadium at match day if tickets still are available an when its a non risk match.. For "High" risk matches like, Ajax-f*noord, Ajax - p$v, Ajax-utrecht etc. you must have a personal card (either a season card, normal clubcard etc). At www.ajax.nl you can also have some other options to buy in advance and so on but don't know how that works for a foreign person. At the site you can also see if you need a special card for that match and if a match is sold out or not...

Don't know how that is at other Dutch clubs..

for us international people, Ajax's website only offers tickets as part of some tour package with dinner, ticket, tour of stadium, etc. I am just curious looking at the sections they make available what the view is from those sections.

hmmmm difficult.. Its different most of the time.. Like for cup matches in the beginning stage you can buy at the stadium before the match tickets wherever you want except on the F-side and VAK 410.. During competition matches you can buy sometimes tickets (if it isnt a high risk match).. At Ajax.nl you can also take 'a tour' in the stadium.. You can see the sides and how high that is or how close you can be at the pitch.. Most of the time 416 has some extra tickets available when there are just a few away fans...Then Ajax make the away side smaller with a big glass wall. On the other side the empty seats will be sold to Ajax fans..

I will have to come back to thread when I am contemplating going to a match as I will list the 3 or 4 sections they have available for those packages.

You can get tickets at the gate or in advanced for any game unless otherwise specified i.e. high risk games, this can be done without the need of a clubcard once it goes into general sale, tourists/travellers included.

We will be in Amsterdam 20 April - 24 April and hoping to see the Ajax - Excelsior match. We should be able to get tickets at the gate for that one, right?

Personally I don't expect any problems for that one.. Tomorrow Ajax plays against de Graafschap and for that one there are also tickets available..

With how many will you visit Ajax????

Thanks for answering...it will just be my wife and me on our honeymoon. We are seeing the Arsenal v. Liverpool match in London on 4/16, hoping to see this Ajax match, hoping to see Bayern Munich v. Schalke on 4/30 and have someone helping us get tickets for AS Roma v. AC Milan on 5/8. I guess we'll do some things she wants to do, too. ;)

Well first of all congratz with your honeymoon!!

Haha well in Italia you can shop like hell i heard so probably she will like that one:p London and Amsterdam also so I don't see a problem there:p

I advice you to visit the service desk during day time at the main entrance of the Amsterdam Arena a day or so before the match if that's possible. In that case you can arrange some tickets before matchday. Otherwise you just go and have a try at the stadium ticket service between the North side and the main entrance on match day. I think it was like 2 hours or so before the match starts the ticket service opens but don't know that time for sure.

Thanks for the congrats. She is not much of a shopper, so we are good there. I think I am locked into the theater in New York and London, so that will be the extent of me doing what she wants to do.

Well, we arrive on 20 April so we could go that or the next day to see if we can get any. What would you suggest if we cannot get tickets through either method you suggested?

Who knows, maybe we could meet up on match day and you could help give us the whole experience?

I actually don't think one of the methods will fail in that one... matches like those are never sold out. Today against de Graafschap was not sold out at all.. And if you are a few days in advance you wil definitly not face any problems at all. I will give you some advice regarding to the experience you said: If you are at the service desk in the Amsterdam ArenA, don't hesitade to visit the Ajax Museum which is also located there.. If you want to get an idea of Ajax and its history you should definitly visit the museum!

I will keep an eye on the selling progress of the tickets for you and I will keep you informed about that.

I was looking at things today and I see the match is now on 24 April, which is Easter Sunday!! We are using that day to travel from Amsterdam to Bamberg, Germany. Bummer, I guess I won't get to see the match. I was looking at other matches on 23 April but none seem appealing that are close. ADO Den Haag play Twente on Friday, 22 April, and it is pretty close to Amsterdam, but I had my heart set on seeing Ajax.

Outch that sucks.. Well you can still visit the museum of Ajax to get the Ajax experience!

  15. I donot think you will be able to get tickets for the ADO FC Twente match as it will be sought after very much, but in the unlikely case you could I would strongly suggest you to grab the opportunity as this will be a match that will show you Dutch philosophy to the extreme and better than Ajax can offer at the moment (whenever). ADO is coached by van der Brom, who follows the Dutch wing led attacking style helped by the fact that he has the best winger in the Netherlands at his disposal and FC Twente are the same with a coach that is adventurous.
So for a spectacular match the Dutch way you shouldnot skip this one.

Well seeing how defensive Twente are playing this season that doesn't really apply.

Footyref, if you just skip Germany you can spends some more time in Amsterdam and watch the Ajax match. Seems like win-win to me.

  18. I just found an article/blog about the experience of a soccer traveller with club cards. He has an interesting way to cheat yourself into the stadium.

In Holland it is not really worth going to a match when you're a neutral fan.
The atmosphere isn't what it used to be anymore, the same can be said about the action on the pitch (rubbish), and the ticketsprices are unhumanly high these days.

If you go I advice you to go to

    - Feyenoord, for the atmosphere, not for the football
    - Utrecht against a top contender, for the atmosphere, and for the play you get to see
    - Den Haag against, for the atmosphere and the play you get to see

or Ajax european matches can be exciting

f*noord?! are you serious?! trust me the football sucks big time the atmosphere isn't good at all I meanjust visit Ajax as we have VAK410 that sings for the whole 90 minutes.. You maybe dont hear that on tv as the sound is reduced big time... a few weeks ago when 410 celebrated their 10 years anniversary there were 3000 people going crazy and in the stadium it was a complete noice overload.. On tv you didn't hear that much about it.. When you want to see 410 in action just buy a ticket on 426/427/428.. Good overview on the pitch and close to the Ultras..

vak410 is a 'made atmosphere'. Nice that Italian/Argentinian Ultra thing, but we just aren't like that. As I said in Rotterdam it isn't what it used to be, but it's still the best in the country, also looking at the stadium. Passion coming from the heart. I can only see passion in the Arena on europacup evenings.

Start using youtube and see what real passion looks like that the boys of 410 have.. Maybe if you stand between those peope at 410 you know what I'm talking about.. There is nothing made on that. I would say if we start talking about the best atmosphere on the first place we have Ajax and after that follows Twente.. After those 2 you have an enourmous gap.. That the Ultra thing isn't your favourite style of supporting doesn't means that its 'made atmosphere'..

I've got a feeling you'll even have a hard time finding Ajax fans to agree with that. The Amsterdam Arena lacks a traditional football atmosphere.

Trip report from Twente's Scottish fans.

    I quote:

"Following some rest the team were picked up and taken to the fans store at the stadium. The boys were greeted by a club official and given free scarfs, dvd’s and match day programmes. Some of the boys picked up Twente shirts and had their names printed on them. From the stadium the boys went to the Bagpipe Supporters club pub, aptly name “The Bagpipe” for some pre match burgers and a chance to take in some pre match build up with old footage of supporters and FC Twente’s footballing past. The boys were greeted by a giant banner reading “Welcome Tartan Army Stranraer”. That banner would later appear as part of the VakP supporters pre match display. It was then off to the match for a taste of some atmosphere that has been lost in the Scottish game. Fans standing, singing, drums, flag displays all added to an unbelievable experience. FC Twente who are currently top of the Dutch league went down to an early goal, thankfully “The Tukkers” proved too strong for the team from the Hague and won comfortably 3-1. The atmosphere was electric during the match, the boys took part in the VakP display, waving giant banners as the teams enetered the pitch, flares were lit and the singing began. After the match the boys were invited to the VakP supporters bar for what seemed a hard core rave. Gifts from the VakP supporters topped of an unbelievable experience for the boys.

Spurs fans were not too impressed with de Grolsch Veste however.. and what they said about the pitch is true. :D
