Ream is probably one of the few--if any--of the American CBs in the MLS that can actually play the ball on the ground from the back.

Not at all but if we're to lose the title--which looks like a real possibility now--I rather it go to Lazio and not to Milan or dare I say, Juventus. That's all.

we lost the derby, and with it gained questions and more criticism from both media and fans
we haven't lost the scudetto, but at the same time we lost a crucial match

i wouldn't mind seeing Lazio win either, however we've seen teams make early runs, only to succumb later on

One cannot but admire the unwavering dedication that Inter followers have to Mou. Given his achievements, that is understandable. But I ask the luxury of playing the devil's advocate and throw some speculations on this. As I recall, after Inter lost the first away encounter to Barca in last year's CL, Mou said that Barca was a complete team and that Inter was a "work in progress". Yesterday after the Barcelona "massacre", he said the same thing. I'm not sure that is entirely true. Because other teams in La Liga are giving Barca a run for their money and with far fewer stellar figures. While a number of Real's players are relatively new (Oezil, Di Maria, Khedira) most have at least played 2 or (many) more seasons with RM. True also, that Mou has only had part of the season with RM and therefore can claim not to have had the time to oil his "machine" efficiently. Even though Mou left Inter with impressive trophies to their name, I am not sure he left behind a stable system that could be built on. Now if Barca were suddenly to change coaches, I believe that a football system and even more importantly a footballing philosophy is already in place and the new coach would have to integrate into it.

But the football inequality between Barca and RM was so obvious --- and through 90 minutes+ of football. Barca gave a soccer clinic to a team of stars that were made to look less than ordinary. Even when they got the ball for short occasions, RM could not keep the ball because Barca would not let them. As Xavi said, if there were 2 balls on the pitch, Barca would still dominate both of them. But the point is this: I believe that it was a contest pitting a system of playing (Barca) against no system (RM). As much as I would have liked to see RM even as much as tie the game, Barca produced a kind of football that I don't know that any team on the planet today can even come close to reproducing. Now, it is known that Barca's success story in terms of system development goes back to the Dutch school of soccer ("total football") first started by Kruyff and then Rijkaard who was really instrumental in getting results with it. And since then Barca never had to look back. They seem to provide a model for the Spanish national side. What I find surprising is that other teams are so far behind in terms of footballing precision, art and effectiveness. It seems as if one is watching football of the future but feeling impotent to emulate it.

As far as Rafa goes, it seemed that early on during the pre-season friendlies he had inculcated a smoothness and flow to our game. But without consistency. Because he did mention at the beginning that he was going to use the Barca model for Inter but that is along way off. Because I still notice that once our players lose the ball, the motivation for recovering it quickly seems lacking. And once a player passes on the ball, he gives the impression of "mission accomplished" and sits back and admires his work instead of exploring new spaces to create the impression on the rivals that they are facing 22 players instead of 11.

Just some things to digest and food for thought.

    If you look at who participated, Casillas(1999), Carvalho(new), Pepe(2007), Ramos(2005), Marcelo(2007), Xabi(1 season), Khedira(new), Ozil(new), Di Maria(new),Ronaldo(1 season),Benzema(1 season)
    subs: Lass(1 season), Arbeloa(1 season)

only 4 out of the 13 have had more than 2 seasons
essentially the midfield is a baby compared to barca's, they just took it over and broke any link to the attack, something that madrid is not use to

you're second statement is spot on, i tried saying it in my own words but theres no need

I was unable to edit the above post and wanted to add this:

Just in case I am accused of straying from the subject, I am not here to praise Barca (I support Inter) but their style and system cannot be ignored. And I'm using them as an example of excellence which we should learn from.

Really happy about the 4-1 victory by Parma over Juventus. Giovinco came back to bite them and get some sweet revenge on a club he should have been starting for, or at least coming on as a sub every game.

Same goes for Palladino. Two good players.

Pretty cool Samora... I just found out that I will be going to Croatia most likely as a part of my job in July/August to do an audit. I am the only one that can speak the language in my firm, therefore it will be interesting to see if I can catch some Inter games or go to a Continental qualifier.

Nothing like a game of football... live.

Seeing a goal being scored in person is almost as good, or if not better than sex in my opinion.

really interesting news, Adebayor signs a loan deal with RM and Van Bommel signs a (6) month deal with AC milan, does anyone find it odd? i mean the guy is 33....

as for RM, im a bit surprised with that move as well, its only a loan move but im hoping karim doesnt get pushed out, unless its for the good of the team...

VB signed for us basically as cover since many of our midfielders are currently out. I don't really like him, but I see why he was signed after initially opposing it. Gattuso is out for 3~ weeks. Flamini I don't know when he comes back... we may even get Criscito as we're still linked to him. That's 4 new players.

VB may even play tomorrow against Sampdoria (actually almost certain since Ambrosini is out). Along with Emanuelson.

that makes sense on milan's behave, yet i dont understand why VB would take that deal unless A) Great Wage with bonuses or B) Great Wage and opportunity to stay longer

both of which sound worth taking

Um, we have restrictions on wages and have been cutting wages for several players. We only offered him six months. Seems to me he just wanted to experience a different league.

It would be great if Benzema came here... being pushed out.. and Pazzini.. man that would be a great tandem for the future. One can only dream.

As far as MvB.. Bilan is still a large and historic club so why not go them... He was being pushed a little bit out of Bayern anyway because his contract was up at the end of the season and they weren't going to renew it.

They bought Luiz Gustavo... and Van Bommel had less playing time... so he left.

Ben coming here....that doesnt sound like a bad move, the only problem is theres already two main strikers here, maybe when milito is 33-34yrs old and gets reduced to a super sub

Pazzini I've only heard of him this season, I've yet to see any samp games, expand on him

    I hope they lose...

    JK Samora :D

Anybody keeping tabs on Andres Vila Boas? The Mourinho assistant who was at Inter for the last 2 years under Jose, but became a coach in his own right this season? Has Porto playing some good football and they are running away with the league. Seems like he also prefers Mourinho's methodical approach. Only time will tell if he indeed is Mourinho Part II. Thus far it's going to plan, and he's fairly young...

Hey guys, Porto fan here on AVB:

He's a young manager who was an assistant to Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea and Inter, specializing in tactical scouting for the "Special One," before getting his first major job as a coach last year at a smaller Portuguese club, Academica. He did a nice job with them, and was fortunate enough to be hired as Porto manager.

His style of football is similar to Mourinho's 4-3-3 with clear instructions defensively, but he has one major difference. AVB has his midfield trio control the ball for the majority of possession, always probing and moving vertical or horizontal to support. Several of his midfielders at Academica said training was very interesting with him, as his ideas on how the midfielders incorporate into the attack require high work rate along with complete tactical discipline and concentration. This year at Porto, both Fernando Belluschi and Joao Moutinho have excelled after disappointing campaigns last year, with Moutinho enjoying the best season of his career and re-establishing himself as a future star and key NT player for Portugal--I think AVB's influence has a lot to do with this.

About his style, he's a very organized, professional manager who likes to stick with a routine; for example, during pre-season training, he literally scripted out every player's schedule for exactly what they would do during the entire week, covering all exercises and scheduled times. So the coaches would arrive 30 minutes before the players, there were 2 cameras set up on opposite sides of the field for each training drill, every coach had to watch the tapes every night, and he would talk to the players before every practice about what the expected outcome of the day's work would be, with very specific goals incorporated.

The results speak for themselves this year: Porto have only lost one match--a meaningless cup game at that--and are dominating the Portuguese league, are a favourite to win the Europa League and are also alive in the main Portuguese Cup. He's an energetic manager who is always active on the touchline, shouting out instructions, consulting with his assistants and evaluating play. With the media, he's not as outlandish as Mourinho, and is quick to praise our rivals while always maintaining complete trust in the players. He's shown a willingness to make tactical changes on the fly, tinkering with his defense and front 3 a lot due to several injuries to key players. But the midfield has largely remained the same, with Moutinho and Belluschi really running the show.

In short, he's a superb young manager who has done an excellent job for FC Porto. However, he and the owner have both confirmed that he will be remaining at Porto for at least 2.5 more years--summer of 2013--with a 3-4 year plan in place to give him the time he needs to win big titles at Porto. So he should definitely be on Inter's radar, but is not likely to leave Portugal for a couple more seasons.

    Hope that helps...regards.
