Daily Telegraph. Or as we like to call it, Daily Terrorgraph. P.S. To the Iranians getting angry at what RickChelsea said, settle down. I'm sure when he said we would have beaten Iran 6-0 he was saying it with tongue firmly planted in cheek. It was in response to persianfootballs constant trolling of these threads saying how we got a free ride to the final etc etc...
Wrong. The correct answer is The Daily Telegraph, one of the two major Sydney newspapers. Part of Rupert Murdoch's NewsLimited stable it has a strong anti-football slant.
the Daily Telegraph, a notorious News Limited tabloid newspaper cheerleader for Rugby League in Sydney and famously anti-soccer in almost everything that it does. Employs such notorious Soccer haterz as Rebecca Wilson and sports editor in chief Phil Rothfield a pox on the lot of them!
Getting sick of this "easy rout to the final" crap.... The cold hard fact is that Australia finished TOP OF THE GROUP! therefore play second out of Iran/iraqs group. If south korea scored more against India they would of had our path, but at the end of they day the didn't. Their fault, not ours!
Clam down. I wasn't belittling Iraq, I was making a compression to show what a fool that loudmouth Aussie fan was. Go check the stats of Iran-Iraq match , Iran dominated in every department, yet the same Iraq had Aussies' card for 100+ minutes. That was my point. Iraq is my second favorite team, I love Iraq and follow Iraqi football more than most Iraqi fans. But you can't pretend that Iraq is better than Iran, when Iraq has not even managed a draw against Iran in the last decade, loosing every single match the two sides have played. As for "Big 5", it refers to traditional powerhouses in Asia. Like it or not, Iraq is not seen as an Asian powerhouse. Iraq is probably the 5th or 6th best team in Asian history, but there are valid reasons why they're not seen as an Asian power, similar to how Greece is not seen as a European power, despite their success in Europe. For starters, Iraq's record against Iran, Japan, and South Korea is very poor, so these teams are not as scared of Iraq, as they are of each other. Secondly, besides Iraq's heroic run in 2007 Asian Cup, Iraq has never really been a contender in Asian Cup. Prior to 2007, I believe Iraq had only made the semi-finals of Asian Cup once. Their recent World Cup qualification record is very poor too, and they have failed to even make the final round of qualifications in 10 years. If Iraq had managed to be more consistent, and get past Qatar for 2010 WCQ following their Asian championship, I am sure a lot of people would have seen Iraq in new light, and regarded her as a new Asian powerhouse.
The 8 or 9 nil comment was surely just a swipe at persianfootball and his/her constant trolling. No need to get your panties all tangled up!
I won't disagree with that. However... There you go tarring all Australians with the same brush, after comments by one or two idiots. Should we call all Iranians "Insolent Iranians" based on your and pf's biased rants? You and others like PF are as bad as any "Arrogant Aussie" with the way you dismiss other teams out of hand, and don't give them any credit or respect at all. Are you showing your true colors now?? You couldn't get past Sth Korea, with whom we drew with (ie who couldn't beat us) and we finished on top of in our group. And even "minnow" Bahrain, who went further than you in WC qualification, aren't a push over and we give them due respect because although perhaps not in your "top tier" are capable and dangerous on their day. Get the hell over yourself.
I didn't mean to brush Australians with the same brush. I am sorry if my post came across as rude. I have liked all the Australians I've met in real life, they were a hip, and joyful bunch. But some Aussie footy fans are extremely condescending, snobbish and arrogant. The same applies to some Iranian, Korean and Saudi fans, who are full of themselves too. Japanese fans, however, tend to be more humble and respectful.
just to set the record straight, this is what i posted before rickchelseas dumb post: if you think the above constitutes as trolling you have some serious, fundamental issues regarding your basic comprehension of the english language. otherwise, you are both simply lying through your teeth. anyhow, i exposed both of you. rickchelseas dumb post:
pf, you must be on some strong mind-bending drugs as AUS did play South Korea (ie "ONE top 5 asian team") in this tournament (Group C), therefore could not have played them in the Quarters. All teams have to have some luck (along with skills & performance), else they get eliminated at each of the stages. AUS found that out last tournament. You're just pissed off because your team was crap this tournament. Go cry to your footballing mother ...... or do the positive manly (ie non cry-baby) thing and get involved in improving your team.
if you didnt understand that the whole point of my discussion was about australias easy opposition in the knockout stages, then you DO have fundamental issues regarding basic comprehension in the english language. why are you responding to me? i am not an english as a first language teacher. perhaps you are natives?
instead of personal attacks such as the above, how about you contribute to the argument? please try to understand how to comprehend basic english as a prerequisite though; if you cannot dont bother.
You're the one with comprehension problems. "the truth is that australia got the easiest route to the final. they did not have to play ONE top 5 asian team. would australia have been knocked out in the quarters if they played Iran or south korea?" Your 1st three sentences show that loud & clear. 1st disagree. 2nd incorrect. 3rd whinge.
"Haterz gonna hate". If you don't like the variances that tournament football can throw at you, don't watch.
Correct. Persianfootball, please don't argue with us on English comprehension. You're fighting a losing battle.
that is not comprehension... that would be a fault in writing. i thought members here would be in triple digits when it comes to iq but i guess i was wrong. let me andytaus and wezza proof it and repost it: they did not have to play ONE top 5 asian team (minus Australia themselves of course, because if I had not written this, andytaus and others would have been confused and would have wrongfully said that i am the one who has difficulties comprehending) in the knockout stages; albeit, this is obvious because the whole point i was trying to make, and still am, in this thread, is about australias lack of top 5 asian team (minus Australia themselves of course, because if I had not written this, andytaus and others would have been confused and would have wrongfully said that i am the one who has difficulties comprehending) opposition in the knockout rounds of the 2011 asian cup. understood?
you are clearly confused if you think that. this is due to the fact that i have stuck to the argument, and have even went as far as helping you with your inability to cope with the prerequisites of having a simple argument on the internet (through assisting you with basic comprehension of the english language). yet you have started to personally attack me with insults such as 'go cry to your footballing mother.'
first him, now you. all you are doing is personally attacking me by hurling insults. you have won... i dont get why you are trolling so much.
that doesnt make any sense. you have clearly lost your composure, akin to uzbekistan today. you are clearly agitated. i am done with you.
Equally, you then shouldn't complain about X team having an easier draw/run etc. which is your modus operandi. Korea beat you, they couldn't beat us
