Not that the CSA had choices, not since adidas opted to not seek a renewal with the CSA back in 2009. Umbro, a four year deal.... "The Canadian Soccer Association has announced a new partnership with kit supplier Umbro. The partnership will help launch a new national uniform that will be worn for the first time in a Men's International Friendly match this 9 February 2011. The jersey will go on sale to the public this 1 June 2011." http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=4628 Hopefully umbro comes up with an interesting design; adidas kits have more or less become very expensive t-shirts.
I never liked the Adidas kits, and you described it well as to what was wrong with them. Umbro make good kits, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Of course, we'll still be stuck with the current badge, which in my opinion is awful, but hey, one step at a time.
My guess is that the jersey design itself will be pretty basic, but will have more piping and stuff on it than Addidas' design. The home jersey will probably have one of those golf shirt style collars (with the buttons) as I think Umbro likes to do that with a lot of their designs.
If that's true I have no issue with it. Golf-style shirt collars are amazing. They really make soccer jerseys look sharp.
Does anybody remember those horrible "Score" brand shirts we had a good 20 years ago. Just terrible quality. Bad material. Bad fit. Colours ran quickly. Awful. Couldn't find a picture anywhere. Best forgotten I guess.
Just that the French signed a new deal till till 2018 with Nike for 85 million dollars a year... I realize that CSA won't get anywhere close to that, however,we should be able to find out if they get anything at all,or just free kits?
Either way the French get 85 million either a year or for the duration to the year 2018 on their Nike, how much does CSA get for the UMBRO deal.Does anyone know?
(shudder) I have the white one at home. At least they were cheap. There is something to be said about the quality of uniforms and the professional feel of a side. These shirts really did nothing for Canada. Part of me guesses that the CSA couldn't get a deal with a major manufacturer and had to search out ScoreSports in desperation. Remember how bad many of the old CSL jerseys were? T-shirt material. Awful things. They didn't look bad but they were a sad excuse for professional players to wear. I don't recall the name of that company but I think they were in Montreal
I'm thinking it was early 90's. I made a trip out to see two WCQ matches at Swangard and these were the shirts in use at the time. Horrible things. I'm guessing we had them for a year or two. IIRC, some other CONCACAF sides also used Score shirts during that qualifying run.
Blizzard I don't care,I just do this for my own entertainment, however, the way you read some of the posts is very bias and you might wanna take a course on being capable of fair...I don't care, but just a comment.
The kit is going to be unveiled Monday night at a special CSA party in Toronto. Pics of the jersey should be up by 7pm on Metro News or canadiansoccernews.com Let's hold our breaths.
