Don't always agree with this guy's articles, but Steve Davis is reporting that KC is the early favorite to host the all-star game with Barcelona being the opponent. I will let that sink in for a moment. BARCELONA. Who knows if this is realistic or not, but could you imagine what type of summer KC soccer would have. Opening new stadium, possible US Nats game and possible all-star game vs Barcelona. Something to keep an eye on. http://www.dailysoccerfix.com/2011/...-city-and-groundbreaking-in-houston#storyjump
It would be this whole article is founded on nothing but conjecture. Gotta think that RBA and the Union are also in the running.
http://www.dailysoccerfix.com/2010/11/19/1824019/mls-all-star-game-headed-to-kansas-city He said the same thing back in November, and Heineman in the Q&A after the rebranding said he wasn't sure if this year would be possible. So anything Davis says I'll take with a grain of salt. http://www.thesportingway.com/2010/11/online-chat-with-robb-heineman.html
if i'm being honest, as much as i think our new digs are going to kick ass, it'd be a waste to have barca and the mls allstars play there with the limited capacity. 'course, if they did, that'd be one hell of a hot ticket... and they could charge an outrageous amount for it.
I kinda like smaller venues for huge games, we'll generate a better atmosphere at Sporting Stadium (put that in just for you) crammed to the rafters than we did for the United game. I know that was kinda epic for a lot of folks but it was still kinda flat. Yup, when they where very possibly the best team in the world and all the glory hunters where following them. Saying that Chelsea ain't shit
Chelsea at TP is equivalent to Barcelona at SCP. And I can tell you the Chelsea game was a lot of fun. Very memorable, I remember at least half of it.
The league is giving us (allegedly) the ASG because we built the new stadium, and they will want it on television. From their perspective, the stadium is the star of the show. If we told the league we wanted to move the game to Arrowhead, they would move it to New Jersey without batting an eye.
There-in lies the Catch-22. It's money/attendance vs. aesthetics/TV. It's also probably supply vs. demand: Low supply of tickets (18,500 vs. 55,000) would mean high demand ($85-$100 tickets?).
Guys - While I really would love to have Barcelona in our building, don't waste many keystrokes on this one....for now.
