Yes was a 2-4 loss but he scored the equalizer. http://www.tsv1860.de/de/saison/u23/regionalliga/spielberichte/2010/15.php
Great find! Was just about to post the German article on which this is partially based. On that same note, we discussed him making the first team in the next 12-18 months during the summer. Well some interesting things afoot at 1860 in the other threads (1860 and Cooper threads): 1860 owes much money to creditors and needs to raise 8,3m by end of season, 5,3m of that by 1-13-11. Cooper is pretty much a done deal he is leaving the club. U19 German international Kevin Volland is likely leaving for Hoffenheim. 1860 has really only now Lauth, Rakic and 18 year-old Ziereis as natural strikers. All that points to Wood possibly getting a few call-ups to see what he can do. I would not be surprised to see him on the bench in the near future. HOWEVER, if 1860 were smart -- and I am not supposing their current sporting director is -- they will offer him a pro contract BEFORE they call him up. They failed to do that with Volland and Leitner before bringing them up to the pro team and we lost MAJOR potential money when they transferred out. In Germany, if you do not have a pro contract and leave your club the purchasing club has to pay a sort of "fair market value" to the originating club for player development. Typically this sum is no where NEAR what you would get for a player were they under a pro contract. Stay tuned. Looking forward to buying my Wood jersey this summer.
Meh....he's collecting a paycheck and that is about it. This season with the U23s he has 4 games, 166 minutes and 1 goal. His contract runs through 2012 but I bet we wish we could drop him and save some $$$. He has not impressed in the two years since his arrival.
That Yanks Abroad site has pretty much the shittiest usage of photos on the entire USMNT-related internet. The images appear on the front page, but not in the url of the related article itself. Also, for some reason it will not show up when you click on "View Image" in Firefox... It pissed me off so much I had to steal it so I could post it here: My question is, what is his ethnic background? When I first heard the name Bobby Wood I assumed he was Caucasian... I laughed.
Probably well. The animosity between most normal fans/players of 1860 and Bayern is largely overstated. It is usually just good-natured ribbing. Sadly, I did too. Seems to have been the nature of my club in the last 8 years. When you look at the promising young talent we have developed and been forced to sell it is sad....very sad.
IIRC, he has a Japanese mother and African american Father. Not that uncommon in Hawaii, where Bobby was born.
Unfortunately not for sale. Hacker-Pschorr is the sponsor of the U23 team and the only way to get the kit is to know someone, steal it or play for the team. They are kept VERY tightly controlled. Trust me, I have tried to get one and I know someone on the inside who can easily get me one...alas to no avail. They would be a SWEET sponsor on the pro kits.
Huerzeler has a video interview on Ives and while he doesnt talk up Wood, he does mention how he knows quite a few of the players and it made transition into the U20's easy
I believe that's correct. I can't say for certain his dad is black, but his mom is almost certainly Japanese. [ind]Bobby is currently taking a Christmas break in California and Hawaii with his mother, Yoko Kurokawa, his sister Shantell and his father, Bobby Wood Sr.[/ind] http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=7429 I have no idea if she's 100 percent Japanese or if she was even born in Japan, but it's safe to say she has Japanese herritage. 'Bout time the Asians in this country started contributing more soccer players. C'mon, everybody has to do their share!!!
Wood to make Aue match this weekend... At 1860, injury woes and transfers mean an opportunity for two young Loewen: Camdal and Wood. With Kaiser and Leitner gone, Biero suspended for his fifth yellow and Halfar injured, now Tarik Camdal is being called up for the Aue match. Likewise, with Lauth the only striker hitting the net, Maurer realizes he needs a few more options up front. Wood is being brought up this week for the trip to Aue as well. No good quotes or new info on the call-up. He is training with the first team and will travel with them to Aue, a samll town in eastern Germany in the Erzgibirge mountains. They are a good, tough side. Doubt Wood will start but he may see some playing time up front if the starters do not produce. Last match the Loewen were out shot something like 5-17. The coach wants a change and now may be the time. The article does say that Maurer has been impressed with Wood and has been keeping tabs on his development with the U23s.
Re: Wood to make Aue match this weekend... Thanks for the update. Wood will get playing time before too long. Good news for Wood but this is not a good sign for the US U20 WC qualifying team. He's another player that may not get released since clubs are not required to release players. I can't say I would blame 1860 if they kept him.
Re: Wood to make Aue match this weekend... Here's the article on the team's page about Wood making the first team http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2010/news_2011-01-19_1860-news.php
Re: Wood to make Onsabrueck match this weekend... Also taking his lactic test with the pro team this Tuesday is US junior national team player Bobby Wood. The 18 year old striker has played in eight games this season for the Regional League amatuer team, scoring two goals. Regarding the game Friday in Osnabrueck there is a good chance the native Hawaiian will be in the squad. Bobby Wood will wear #14 with the professional team. My bad on the opponent, it is Onsabrueck not Aue. Osnabrueck is near the Dutch border.
Re: Wood to make Aue match this weekend... Hey now, there are kids here. I didn't think that kind of talk was allowed.
