There forward from last year was very dominant with size and speed and caused our team many problems, I am assuming it's the same kid you think is not that good. I did notice in the D.S.T. that he was out of form which could easily be that this was the first outing. The Mississippi kid was very good indeed, didn't know that they made players like that down in the Humpback State. (only joking about that)

Yes, he still does cause problems with his size, pace, and work rate.. But the kid is not a good soccer player (Zero goals at Disney). He doesn't release the ball and has the touch of a baby rhino.. I can see him doing very well in the younger years (U11 - U14), but as he progresses, everyone else is going to catch him in size and pace and he wont make it.. That is my honest opinion. Everytime he was played into his feet, we was trying to turn and do it on his own (basically giving away possession 90% of the time he touched the ball).. And I never once heard the coach tell him anything or bring him off the pitch..

Yeah, there are actually several very good players on that U15 team in MS and they actually play some very good soccer. You would be suprised. Haha.. We will see how good they are soon. They are going to a tough Vulcan Cup in Birmingham, Alabama, travelling to Dallas for some friendlies in March to play some North Texas powerhouses (FC Dallas, Solar, Andromeda Red) and travelling to Atlanta in April to play some high quality GA teams (Concorde Fire, GSA, NASA).

If I am not mistaken I have heard that the big kid has moved, and is not in the Chicago land area.

You are correct. He moved to Kentucky and trains with another team in KY (dont know who). Just plays games, tournaments, and is on roster with the CFJ Gold team..

With you knowing so much about this team, player (s) and other insider info about the Mississippi team, are you a coach, parent or just employed by wikileaks.com

How do I know so much about the CFJ Gold team also? Honestly, I just know alot about youth soccer in general.. I am from the South and have seen the MS team and Hayden play several times at some bigger tournaments down here.. I was also at Disney and watched alot of U15 games, including the CFJ Gold team and spoke to some of the parents and made my own opinions also.. But yes, I am employed by wikileaks also.. haha..

stanleyryan55 - while you may be supremely qualified to break down the ins and outs of a youth soccer game and no matter how valid or spot on your opinions may be, none of that gives you the right to call out (by name) a 14 year old boy. I know at times you might feel you are having a one on one conversation with other member of bigsoccer, but there are other people listening to your conversation. That is evident by the number of views vs. the number of posts. One of those views could be the kid himself and/or his parents.
- origninally posted by stanleyryan55: I also agree with you about the CFJ Gold team. They werent as good as I thought they were going to be. They just banged the ball and by-passed the midfield 90% of the time. I thought their best players were the center mids, Mike and Hayden, their outside mids, and their center and left back. I honestly thought their forwards were BY FAR the worst players on their team. I thought the golden ball winner from nationals (Lloyd) was a glorified rec player and shouldnt be playing at that level...
Stanleyryan55 - Regardless of your thoughts and opinions on this team and others, it is inappropriate for you to identify these players by name in a public forum, and then to single out and make such distasteful comments about a kid. If you are willing to identify others by name, you should identify yourself as well. One can express an opinion without belittling a child in the process. You should be ashamed.

Agree with not calling out a youth player so harshly. Disagree with observation. Maybe he had a bad tournament at Disney (I dont know about that) but this kid is a quality player. Whose parent are you stanleyryan? Sounds like you have an axe to grind.

Couldn't agree with you more. Nothing like a grown man/or woman hiding behind a computer and talking smack about a 14 year old kid and naming him by name.

Stanleyryan should change his name to stanleyCOWARD!!!

Hope you enjoy yourself down there playing for Mississippi Fire Jrs, as it is pretty obvious who you are.

The kid from Mississippi is Hayden Cochran. He plays for the Chicago Fire Juniors of MS U15 team, they are the 4 times state champions and have some good results (Beat the region II finalist, Carmel, last year, and beat the region III finalist, CSA Predators).

He made holdover at regional camp but is a real young '95 and hasn’t gotten a call up to play for the regional team yet. But like you said this kid is legit. He has very good technique, great vision, and decent pace.

I also agree with you about the CFJ Gold team. They weren’t as good as I thought they were going to be. They just banged the ball and by-passed the midfield 90% of the time. Would this be the proper way to post the information, or should it be more cryptic, so that only insiders know who the poster is talking about.

Wow.. Yall are a bunch of babies and cant handle the truth. Maybe his coach should tell him that also and he can get better. That boy might be a fine player later in the season but from what I saw, that is my opinion. Hopefully I will see him play later in the year, and will apologize for my comments and form a different opinion. And yes.. Maybe I shouldnt of said his name, but what would that of mattered.. You would have known who I was talking about.

And NO.. I am in no way a part of the MS Fire.. I am friends with parents on that team however. I am a parent of a team that plays them all the time in youth tournaments in the South, many friendlies, and Region III PL. There were several there. Vestavia Steamers, Brentwood Premier, etc.. I wonder which one? I, as many others did, wanted to see the National Champions play, so I came out and formed my OWN opinion.

They are not the National Champions anymore. The Eclipse is the National Champions. What we have now is a team that has just enough players to call itself the National Champions. The best player on the team does not play with them anymore and I think you are correct about the kid as forward. As we all know the gene pool starts to even out at this age and it is time for talent to take over. All teams have along way to go before the start of the tournaments. Even if they do not repeat who really cares not many kids can say they won the true National Championship:)

Yes.. I know. But you have to understand. When you have parents from other teams saying "Come watch this team, they won the national championships last year at U14".. You go watch and you say to yourself.. "Wow, my sons team in the 2nd bracket could hang with that team".. Its kinda dissappointing, but you are correct, not many teams can say they were National Champs. Congrats for that achievement.. And also, very few players can say they were the Golden Ball winner at Nationals also.. But its a different year.

I heard yall had several guest players that weekend however, with 2 or 3 of them being U14 players. Honestly, I saw yall play twice that weekend. One time yall looked really bad versus the Penn team. Then I saw yall play versus the Texas team and look terrific in the first half, then fall apart in the second half. I really like several of your players, but like I said, it is going to be hard to win (at that level) with some of the players on that team. I think with a couple months training that team will still be tough to beat, but if you cant hold the ball up top, by-pass your midfield, and give away possession 90% of the time, its going to be tough.

The keeper, center mid, center back, left mid, right mid, left back were very good players however. That is my honest opinion..

    This thread could be called:
    "<insert club name><insert team name><insert age group>"

and it would be exactly as true. How can any of you think these circumstances are unique?

This scenario plays over and over again across the country, maybe not national champs but certainly on a state champ level. In NJ for example, the 96-97 state cup champs have dissolved each year since U11 (that would be U11, U12, U13, and now U14 is on shaky ground). Some even dissolved between the fall and spring seasons.

For every team that has 11 starters and 7 subs, there are 7 unhappy players, and a few unhappy starters (but dad, I'm really a forward and they play me at defense!!!). Parents sometimes drive it, coaches moving certainly doesn't help, but this goes on and on and on everywhere.

I have to say it was cathartic reading about a kid I don't know being bashed. There are US MNT U14 players from my state who can be beaten by at least 50 players in the same age group. Doesn't stop those kids from being picked, mostly for size and strength coupled with some skill.

There are few really special teams. And of those really special teams, most end up dissolving or reforming in some way. Do you know where the New Orleans Saints are right now? Same place the NY Giants are...

I follow youth soccer pretty heavily in the 96-97 age group (younger than the team that the thread is about), and could mention a lot of players who are lauded and don't deliver, and ten times as many who aren't noticed and deliver.

Why don't you go back to your cave and cry me a river? Freedom of speech, clown! The poster could've chosen to spare the kid's name, but he is entitled to have an opinion, even if it isn't positive one.

You are not such a positive example yourself calling a stranger a "tool". Although it doesn't offend me one bit, it shows you are no better to judge others.

Although I agree with some of the things in your post, you know very well that winning such titles at U14 means very little for the development a few years later. I would be far more happy, proud and congratulatory of these boys if any of them make it to the pro level. Winning title at young age is nice and satisfactory, but other than to provide some additional confidence boost, it doesn't actually teach these young boys how to play the game better. If anything, it puts a "bullseye" on one's back, as well as additional pressure.
