Baroni is out! Brad Tavarez with a mean hook, head kick combo. Followed by a right hook and a pounding. I'm oh fer one on my picks.
I watch them all, but never seems anyone here gets into it. Poirier from Laffyette, LA mind you, just work over the number one contender who was supposed to fight Aldo before he backed out. This David v. Stephenson fight has been the most even and technical.
Stephens, not -son. And he just absolutely rocked Davis. Davis was winning the fight, not a sratch on him. Then he ate a haymaker, and Stpehens did a cannon ball punch move on a pretty limp Davis.
Guida looking to shoot, Gomi looking out for it. Guida is moving in and out to gauge distance and set something up. Gomi reactionary. Guida lands a head kick. It knocks Gomi back a step, but looks fine seconds later. Guida shoots in for a single leg, takes Gomi down for a brief second, but Gomi's back up and in his striking stance. Gomi lands a left. Guida still dancing around the outside. Guida shoots in but stops short and pulls out. Gomi throws a left, it lands but Guida's drives in for a takedown with 40 seconds left. A few strikes on the ground for Guida complete round one. Guida takes the round.
WoW Clay "The Carpenter" Guida w/ the capoeira style submits Gomi. IMHO Gomi was always over-rated, cause I don't think he get close the BJ Penn, but so many labeled him as the Best Lightweight on the Planet. Guida just gives me another reason he is not.
Good fight w/ Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim. Dong Hyun wins, but Diaz's BJJ is awesome & homie almost got tapped.
Hyun Kim was grapple heavy. Won the fight, not the fans. One of the more dull fights of the night. But I'm glad Diaz got shut up.
I didn't think it was dull. I like the technical fights. That is what MMA is all about. Looking for weakness & taking them to your advantage. Must say I was happy w/ this card. Wasn't at first, but I saw some excellent performances. Some many to talk about. Good start for the UFC in 2011.
