in my opinion, some players paid Diego to be included on the NT
cause many of them are simply a clown, including Diego himself... just look at his comment after Boca appointed a new coach

Demichelis goes to Malaga, a team in the relegation zone. That really shows his current place in footy .

Demichelis is a joke but as for moving to club like that, Tevez was at Westham, Bati was at Fiorentina and even played at serie B

Bati and Tevez were still quality though. Demichelis has been playing like crap for a while now. Everyone at Bayern is happy he is gone. No one at Fiorentina would have cheered had Bati left.

off course Tevez and Bati played at those club while still young and at top form but what I mean is, there are great players that did play for mid/low table club. In Demichelis case though, his top form is just that... the way he marked Diego Milito first goal in CL final, you gotta give 2 thumbs up:D

Yeah that's the whole point, they were great players. Demichelis isn't a great player anymore. Look at the Bayern forum. No one is going to miss him. The fact that he moved from a huge club like Bayern to a relegation team in La Liga pretty much explains it all.

Doblete de Tevez. Say what you will about his attitude off the pitch but the guy can't seem to stop scoring for City.

He also assisted the first goal, he keep chasing when the GK was about to pass and he stole it then pass it for Barry to score

We also see how "great" Colocini is

also, Tevez is 18 goals away from 100 goals in EPL

the only thing i'd say about that artice is that i don't think tevez's inclusion was what cost us. I've been a big critic of his on the nt level, but the guys who should have been benched were Maxi and Di Maria. They were both invisible the whole cup, Veron and Pastore should have been in instead:
    -----Higuain
    Tevez--Pastore--Messi
    ------Masche---Veron

exactly... but even if Maxi and Di Maria are in good form, is there any real reason to put 5 attackers with 1 midfielder who's a defensive midfielder? that is childish just to think for a sec. Mexico could have tied the Argentina if it wasnt their weak shoot accuracy

Spanish Media declares this Messi goal as the best of the year.

Why can't we see this effort from him on the NT? In this goal, there are no teammates, no passing, no give and go. Just Messi against 6 players from the opposing team, one of which he turns inside out before shooting on goal.

It's an absolutely incredible goal! Probably one of Messi's best ever, except he has the wrong shirt on.

Re: Año Nuevo, vida nueva - the Argentine NT News, Stats & Players thread 2010-2011 [R]

What effort are you talking about? The same effort he did in the 90th min vs Brazil a month back? Brazil have a ton of world class defenders he danced across, Zaragoza is a joke of a team which will likely be relegated by the end of this season. The level of competition is not the same when he plays for club or national team.

I can put a ton of videos of our players and say where is the effort for the national team but I rather not because it is a pointless argument. I am not going to start another Messi for Barca or Messi for La Selección because it is going to be end up going back to the WCQ, the World Cup and whatever. All I know is the kid will die for the shirt and has taken sacrifices to be with the him in the past, I will not question his heart for the shirt. Copa America is right around the corner and if he has a crappy tourney and we will still win it, I will not give a flying hoot.

There was a recent article in Ole where he said his biggest prize of the new year would be to win the Copa America in front of the Argentina supporters.

I want Messi to gel with the team. Where he becomes an integral part of La Seleccion. While winning the Copa America is important, I think that Messi meshing with the Seleccion is above that.

That's why I'm always so critical of him. I want him to mesh, mesh, mesh! lol lol

watch his goal against Columbia, Brazil or France
He did run pass 2-3 defenders and then beat the goalkeeper

Maybe if Argentina can fix their defensive problem then the striker will play with more confidence, but to keep letting 3,4 or even 6 goals and conceiding when team like Brazil & Germany did their very first attack.... not even Diego in his playing day could save the team.

I had sworn off any more debate on this topic...but I have to bite. Mesh, mesh, mesh with WHAT EXACTLY??? When is it that there was a structure in place with which Messi failed to gel? Give me examples of others on the team that were in fact gelling (and that better be at least half the rest of the team), making Messi the one not falling in line. Opinions are great and all, Cosmos, but for the love of God, we have to get to a point where we can trace back the logic you use to arrive at that opinion. Otherwise, we'll keep circling back and forth around this thing.
so pleaaase, I beg of you! Since you put forward a thesis, reply to my questions in bold. Then, in turn, you can ask your own questions. It's a character flaw of mine that I NEED to be able to follow people's train of thoughts and for things to make sense. So pretty please indulge me and take me off the torture rack. :D

Cosmo, it could take years for a team to gel together. I know you do not want to hear about the Barca system, but that is how they all play since they were in the youth team. Their youth team is in the second division right now in Spain, they must be doing something right. Messi needs to gel with the team but this goes for everybody else, Tevez,Banega,Masche,Pastore and whomever. The team needs time, we are talented as hell but that is all we are. You can not win with a group of individuals and that is all we are. You win a team, a structure. I mean who can you say gels well with the current team?

Re: Año Nuevo, vida nueva - the Argentine NT News, Stats & Players thread 2010-2011 [R]

the whole process of the NT gelling is nearly impossible in this day. Now, the main players a scattered around the globe playing in different countries with different styles. This is not only effecting the lack of "gelling" but its also making the NT lose its identity.

Back in 1978, the team was built around the great River teams of the 70s with Fillol, Passarella,el Beto, Gallego, Luque, Ortiz not to mention the great independiente teams with Bertoni, Larrasa, Galvan, Olguin. Even Huracan's great teams had the likes of Ardiles and Houseman, and Menotti was the coach of Huracan so he knew them.

In 1986, the base of the squad was also built around River's great players like Pumpido, Ruggeri, and Enrique plus the base of the independiente side with Burruchaga, Giusti, Clausen, Bochini, etc. Even Maradona was in Europe, but he had played in Argentina for 7 years before leaving

Those teams and those players knew what it means to be an argentine player. they knew the expectation of the people etc. The understood the passion everything.

Now, not only are the players scattered all over the globe, but we have an coach who is also "vendiendo humo" named Checho Batista. I don't know who is more full of sh!t, this guy, or Cappa. "We need to play like Spain" "we need to build the team around messi like at Barcelona" No. Argentina needs to play like Argentina, not like Spain.

True, but maybe "playing like Spain" is just a way to remind everybody of how Argentina used to play.
