Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi I guess its hard to know until we know who it actually is, i didnt realize he hasnt releashed his name, or the company name.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi Except we know who they are, their company name, and then some. Andreas Apostolopoulos, who works in commercial real estate with his family in Toronto, bought the Dome. His son, Steve, is the director of Triple Sports and Entertainment, and is the one we are in constant contact with. We've met with him on multiple occasions and worked with him to help boost our chances for a team. The Milan-Panathinaikos friendly back in August went off relatively smoothly for us, and they did more than we could've asked for. I'd say we have a better relationship with them as a supporters group than half of MLS.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi Well it sounds like Detroit could be the next MLS team to be announced then heh. either them or NYC2.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi That all depends on the depth of Triple Sports' pockets. It's going to take A LOT of money to both do this major renovation to the Silverdome and buy into MLS. I can't help but think that if they had the money and were willing to spend it, we'd have had an announcement by now. Either they don't have the cash they seem to want folks to think they do, have it but not at the moment (remember, assets aren't the same thing as money, especially in a bad real estate market), or are hesitant to spend it right now. Whichever is the case, I think that the lack of any word (or leaked word) from them for a few months doesn't bode well for MLS in Detroit, at least any time soon.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi I'm willing to bet all of their money is tied up in assets. As for their silence, it was months between them buying the Dome and announcing the first soccer events there... it just seems to be how they operate.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi quite interesting. I wonder how long it would take for all that work to be completed.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi this particular proposal would take years to build. I've been operating under the assumption that they'll eventually do a feasibility study, realize what a bad idea it is and then just build an SSS on the Silverdome site.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi not so bad very interesting
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi Well I think they have the money. I read that the dome costs 2 mill a year to run. Also bringing in all these events cost money and lastly here is a btoomberg article that I read sometime ago he seems like the type of guy who does not flaunt his money and is low pro. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/10_32/b4190064446709.htm
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi There has got to be things happening
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi is the silverdome easy to get to from detroit? cause on google maps it looks a bit far from the city
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi It's a long but easy drive up I-75, and it's right near the exit. The only real problem with the location is that it's a VERY long drive for fans in the suburbs downriver and on the far East side.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi And it's a pretty easy drive for anyone in the northern burbs in Oakland County. Detroit is not a very centralized area, so the driving would not be much of an issue for fans.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi There is no public transit right? I guess being the motor city everyone drives
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi made the drive from our home in Sterling Hts many times to see the Express and the Lions and the Pistons before their moves.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi That is correct. There is some bus service in the city, but the auto industry made damn sure that there would be no way for most people to get around without owning a car.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi Smart on there end LOL so I guess the Apostolopoosfdhgodfhs guys need to invest in a buss terminal on top of an mls team.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi There's a light rail planned for Woodward Avenue downtown... some have suggested that if it's a success (or actually built), it could be extended all the way north to Pontiac. There's also been talk of linking it up with new commuter rail lines. But at this point all of this is theoretical and years down the road.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi lets not kid ourselves and think this is just a Michigan thing. Sure, there are places like Chicago, NY, Atlanta with awesome rail lines. That said, most of the US is built around everyone needing a car.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi thankfully that attitude seems to be changing.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi somewhat but in a way, you can't get around it in the states. I am not talking just about local rail system. Germany is the size of New York if I am not mistaken. It is easy to get around. We are so spread out. Now back in Michigan, you can still get around pretty easy although you have to do it with a car. Here in Arizona, the central valley is hugely spread out from the west part of it to the east.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi It's a mistake that's going to bite the country in the a** someday. Even with slowly changing attitudes, it's probably too late to do much about it. But yeah, people in Detroit, as in most other places in the country, are used to driving long distances to get to anywhere interesting.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi not only that but very few carpool, they design car pool lanes but sometimes you never see anyone in them as too many single drivers out there.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi The crappy thing about driving is that you have to commit a whole part of your day to see a match. IF there was quick and efficient public transportation it might not require as much of a time commitment, and therefore, be more attractive to large amounts of people, IMO. It would be interesting to see Michigan take a more prominent role in rail system talks. Just as we started the motor cars, we could start efficient rail systems. Not too hard to imagine.
Re: Tear the roof off: Silverdome to be split into concert hall, indoor arena, soccer-specific stadi Granholm was into it, who knows about Snyder, though.
