The Motor City Supporters are the supporters group working with the owners of the Silverdome to bring MLS to Detroit.

Our world cup viewing parties were the largest in Metro Detroit and our weekly pick up games across the city are getting very large.

Please join our mailing list at http://www.motorcitysupporters.com and join the movement and help to make this dream a reality.

Just out of curiosity, how many "members" are there in MCS? Any plans to take a decent sized group to the MLS Cup in Toronto?

Damn I just realized how close yu guy are to Colombus and New york... That could be a better rivalry than seattle, Vancouver, and Portalnd.. NY, COl, Det are so close the rivalries would be ridiculous...

I hope Detroit can get an expansion team soon.. Good Luck Detroit, im rooting for you!!

I think you mean Columbus, Chicago, and Toronto. 4-5 hour drive to all of those cities.

No apology necessary. Those are sweet, and you should be very proud of them.

I've never heard Detroit described as close to New York... Columbus, Toronto and Chicago would be our big rivals.

We have over 1,000 people on our mailing lists. Our World Cup viewing parties were (as far as I can tell) the largest in Metro Detroit with between 400 and 500 people at the Claddaghs for the 2 weekend games and the final.

Our weekly pickup games average between 50 and 80+ people during the week depending on the city. Troy has been averaging 80+ while the other two cities, Livonia and Novi I believe are over 50.

Our FIFA Tournaments and Claddagh are pulling several hundred people as well.

It seems like a Detroit MLS team could be a very real possibility. MLS facebook and the official website keep bringing up topics about a possible MLS team in Detroit and what the fans think.

I am optimistic but careful, remember the buildup the St. Louis fans had...they were supposed to be the next team for years running.

Our advantage though is in our strong (potential) ownership team.

Considering the troubles Jeff Cooper is facing with his AC St. Louis squad, I'd say Detroit has moved ahead of St. Louis as the number one candidate for MLS expansion in the U.S. Midwest right now.

But, the same question remains about this bid that cuttled the St. Louis one: How much cash can be thrown on the table? IMHO, MLS Detroit depends entirely on the answer to that question.

IMHO, it'll take an expansion fee of $50 million plus a renovated Dome (conservatively around $200 million). Maybe TSE will align with Duggan to provide even more firepower in their bid, with the Bucks staying at USA and being the developmental team for the MLS club.

It will take more than the franchise fee, as St. Louis demonstrated. Cooper had the franchise fee and a shovel-ready stadium deal, and still got turned down (rightly so, as subsequent events have demonstrated).

MLS wants to avoid another Horowitz/Miami situation at all costs, and needs to be convinced that enough money is there to absorb both big start-up costs and multi-million dollar losses. The last thing that they, or we as fans, want is TSE having to launch the team on the cheap, let alone run it that way.

Agree with ya on that. It's good that TSE is mounting their offensive now. Right now they're the only prospective owners making any noise. While MLS wants #20 to be in NYC, we're showing that MLS can't giftwrap it to NYC just yet.

As a group, we are not, but we do have individuals attending the MLS Cup (should let them know to bring their MCS scarves to the events)
