By Portland incident I mean negative reaction to the name (crickets, faint boos, etc), I don't think we'll get the level that the Timbers Army did, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it get a negative reaction.
Yeah, fair enough, unless you want to lead the "you f@cked up" chant. I know this probably won't happen, but it'd be cool if they trotted Bravo out in the new shirt on Wed. I think I said way back at the beginning of this thread I thought OnGoal would make the announcement whenever they could get Bravo up here to do the unveiling. I checked Chivas' schedule and they have a very slim chance of making the post season. They have to beat Monteray on Saturday, but that game doesn't matter as they are eliminated in their group if Pachuca wins tonight. So - I guess it would be possible. I really, really, ********ing hate that it's possible that the Wizards in name will be no more, but the optimist in me is holding hope that what ever we see next week will be good. Damn good. And will be something that most of us can get behind. I imagine the result will be somewhere in the huge gray area between hate, and new inspiration. Over a couple of brews I'll be rationalizing. What else can one do trying to deal with change?
In light of possible chants, maybe it was a wise idea to e-mail this announcement from "no reply" Major Kansas City Soccer Announcement - November 17 Friday, November 12, 2010 5:00 PM From: "Kansas City Wizards" <noreply@kcwizards.com> To: *******************
If they go Sporting KC, I think the diehard fans will get over it in time, but the bigger issue is what everyone else is going to say when they're trying to round up the soccer team to head out to the game. "Come on out and see the 'Sporting KCs'?" This is why I predict they'll quickly adopt an (un)official nickname of "The Blues". It keeps with the two-tone blue color scheme, it has a KC tie-in, it gives the press a more convenient shorthand name for the team in headlines and highlights, fits the motif of EPL teams having a club name combined with a by-and-large invisible team name (Red Devils, Blues, etc.)
Why would we do that when we have a nickname we have been using for 15 years and a lot of fans have dozens of pieces of apparel with it plastered all over it. If we go Europoser, our unofficial nickname will be Wizards.
If you're going to burn your bridges with the past and go with Sporting KC, then why not burn all your bridges. I guess Wizards is better than the Zards. <<zzzzzthhhhwing>>
Who says rebranding has to lead to burning all bridges? We are the Wizards. Why get rid of that if we dont have to? Obviously, if the rebranded name isnt Sporting and it includes a nickname it will be different but if not, why not keep it around since that is what we are?
Wow. You seem to have read something into my post that wasn't there. Please feel free to continue ignoring me.
I for a while was saying threads like this should have been called Non-Wizards fans stupid ideas to rename the team or something like that, so it surprises you when I call out a person who doesn't support this team for making a suggestion on what we should call ourselves? You said: "If you're going to burn your bridges with the past and go with Sporting KC, then why not burn all your bridges." You're not a fan of this team so why should I care about what you think we should or should not do? I'm tired of people that aren't fans coming into this and other threads with their suggestions on what we the fans should and should not call our team.
we're all in agreement about the second part, i'd imagine, but are you just assuming that because he doesn't have the wizards listed in his profile, he doesn't support them? it's an honest question. he's a newb with only 5 posts, maybe he just hasn't bothered.
By the fact that he says 'if you're going to burn your[\b] bridges. It's using that instead of our for instance
Less than five days away and there isn't a blurry, cellphone pic of the new jersey and crest? BigSoccer has really gone downhill.
I'm not sure if this has been said, but OnGoal has the team in a much better place than which they found it (in all aspects). Honestly, change isn't going to please everyone, but they've earned my trust with strategic direction decisions.
Then why leave the team's name out of the announcement? It's a "major Kansas City soccer announcement". There's a reason they left the name Wizards off of it.
well we do have precident for this. "The new name for the Kansas City Wizards will be: The Kansas City Wizards.
