Who's the second NPSL team in Baltimore. You have the TSC Red Devils, but Charm City didn't play this year. Is there a new team?

Oops you are right. We have one NPSL team----but two WPSL teams: the TSC Maryland Pride and the ASA Chesapeake Charge.

Who says? Medd (for some reason) was at the NASL meetings and there still a mention of FC Baltimore on the NASL press release. There is still a chance.

So the official word came today. No team in 2011, restructuring for possible relaunch in 2012. New team colors to be red, yellow, and black, echoing state and city of Baltimore flags. No name chosen at this point. The stadium study now approaching the one year mark. DC United selling season tickets for next year and I don't see them moving to Baltimore under any circumstances regardless of the study outcome.

Thats so laughable. How can they get a stadium when they still owe so many people money. I know some of these people and they still haven't got paid. Pete - pay people and maybe you can save face somehow. When I read your post I called one of the players just to make sure they still hadn't got their money... they haven't and the other coaches from the academy never got paid at all this year.

I don't think the CP-Baltimore or Medd has anything to do with the stadium. Its a city/county project. CPUSA 2.0 can only hope when they return they can get a decent rent on it.

didn't know that but they didn't pay all there rent to places they used this year.
    still say the same thing.
hey - i loved having pro soccer back in baltimore. Maybe they tried to do things with good things in mind, but they ended up really screwing a lot of people. Just can't stand that - especially when some of them I know. I only met those guys a couple times and I really hate them only because of not paying people they owe money to... but still trying to run a club.
Thats messing with peoples lives. The fact I thnk they were terrible coahces is second to how they treated people.
ok - no more venting tonight. time for Fells Point.

Actually I am hoping that the CPUSA and Medds aren't involved when pro soccer returns in 2012.

I know others have suggested that D.C. United would never move to Baltimore, but I have this gut feeling that the World Cup bid was the last chance for United to get a SSS in the D.C. area and that a move might be inevitable. I say no more D.C. mayors should be allowed to kick the opening ball since the city has treated United with such disregard and disrespect. I think I'll throw even more of my support to the Monarchs and Royals next season (I'm assuming they'll both be in the PDL Eastern Conference)...

I just don't believe that MLS would allow DC United to move to Baltimore, that doesn't mean I don't believe they won't move. I would guess the league, since it is a single-entity structure, would want to put them somewhere else in the country that has been clamoring for a team more whereas Baltimore is coming a little late to the party. Baltimore's pursuit is really only based on one sell-out of a high profile international match and a less well-received second international contest. Not knowing with any certainty how many people would follow DC United up from RFK, or how many people in Baltimore currently follow the Black and Red, I just don't know if there is enough proof to move a team here when other options exist just for a stadium. Dallas and Colorado have great stadiums and made the final this year but neither is a great market for the league at this point regardless of the stadium situation.

As for the stadium study, CP Baltimore did put in what I believe was 25k to the fee but I'm sure they were hoping to at least have some assistance paying for the 30M stadium proposed if not have a combination of local and state government funding for the whole project. With recent revival of commentary on building a new arena in Baltimore as part of an expansion of the convention center I'm not sure the city would be interested in spending too much of their money chasing both proposals and the arena offers the opportunity for a greater return on investment, though the 18.5k size they are seeking is too big for this market due to our proximity to DC and Philadelphia...but i digress.

Yeah I am with you here. The city really needs a new arena that can bring in better concerts and sporting events than a soccer stadium. One scenario I see for DCU is a move to New York since the Commissioner has brought up putting another team there. A new ownership group could take the team over and move them.

If the stadium study comes back in favor of building an SSS I think DCU will use it as leverage to get a new stadium in DC or one of the surrounding counties in MD and VA

It's not in the league's financial interest to allow DC United to relocate to a market clamoring to get into the league, especially New York. The league would be sacrificing the membership fee expansion owners pay to get in, and that is not an insignificant sum.

Baltimore, Richmond, etc perhaps are not a viable expansion markets, but they are close enough to DC to qualify as a simple stadium relocation.

The Arena discussion is a separate one. The stadium study & arena study were commissioned by the MSA (Maryland Stadium Authority) and BDC (Baltimore Development Corporation). It's a long path from a study to budgetary commitments by the City. Simply saying that one or the other is feasible doesn't commit the city to any dollars, and in fact, the larger burden will be shouldered by the state in either case.

    "Sit out" a year?????????

I hate to be a pessimist but Pete & Jim's record speaks for itself. No league, city, investors, coaches, players or whatever should (will) go into partnership with them. They have failed at every level except to have a "beer tent" at UMBC and Calvert Hall venues. They can't coach, manage, market, or operate a professional level team and are a laughingstock (in NASL/USL) at all levels.

Worst of all, they didn't pay coaches and players - a cardinal sin of running a team. They owe lots of people lots of money and have made no overtures to settle their debts.

To reinvent themselves means declare banckruptcy, then create a new team/organization and repeat all their previous mistakes.

The only way an investor would become involved is to buy a majority interest and fire Pete/Jim.

You are 100% correct on all accounts. The only way they would have even a slim chance of coming back would be if they paid the people they owe $ to and say they planned to all along as soon as they got the money - they have been so good at lame excuses for things I am sure they can do that too.
But why would any league let them into it with their history anyway.
