I think it's time to start talking about Football Manager 2011 and its future changes. It would be nice to have following features:

    - Fix animation bugs in 3D pitch mode. There are still some unrealistic player movements.

    - Increase 3D match view performance for low-level video cards. Cool to have an option to disable rendering of substitution benches!

    - Get licence for national team of Germany (I don’t like to use fake files to solve such kind of problems Happy).

    - Think over and remake ‘Press conferences’ feature. They are too boring now, I always send Assistant Manager.

    - I would like to see total player statistics of all seasons (not only one current season): won headers, goals/shots, accurate passes and so on Day dreaming

    - The same history would be good for training progress of my players. I would like to see it for all period when player is in my team (not just 12 months).

    - More interaction with fans.

    - It would be great to participate more in youth development and invest in youth academy somehow

I think you might aswell make your own game, because your asking for the perfect game which is next to impossible for these researchers and game engineers.

    - Increase AI in corners to prevent tricks. There is one atm, that using the right players can bring you up to 1 to 6 goals per match. I stopped using it, not funny anymore. Arturo Vidal scored 36 goals that way and it's not even the end of the season. This trick make any relegation team look like a powerhouse against the likes of Chelsea.

    - More realistic movements. For years that they haven't solved the surreal aspect of a player reaching the goal line, go back and outline the defense to the front of penalty area until getting a clear shot. Looks so unnatural and dumb. Another nice fix would be adjusting the angle of the ball to the player. Sometimes a "only right" foot player makes dangerous shots when the ball was definitely more to the left side of his body.
    There are more, alot more.

    - Add random events associated to the professionalism of the players, family matters (more than the current) and all of that is somewhat interconnected to what we have to say to the media. Mind games vs other managers need to have another sort of appeal, a better reward too.

    - The staff thing is annoying. No staff goes public to admit he wants to go to X club out of the blue. The search of that area for new and talented ones is freaking boring and unneeded. I use Genie Scout for that now (and solely).

    - More statistics in History of a player other than just the League.

    - After achieving success with a given club in Portugal, nothing seems to change much. The sponsors (wether by club or league) only reach to a certain amount and so does attendance. Even if I win inumerous european trophies in a row to be the richest club in the world. For real, they need to adress that the sucess in european competitions should reflect on the competitiveness of the league and its mediatization. At least, after 20 seasons in Portugal something must to give, no?

    - This is optional, but I think that managers that invest in infra-structures rather than team (depending of the board's profile) - long-term over short-term - could be rewarded with packets of investment. Meaning that McDonnald's is willing to inject X millions in 2 or 3 seasons in a consistent top european club. Like the same way some big yet not very known company is willing to spend X millions on a promising club. There could be another criteria other than just infra-structures and value + mediatization of players, but simply applying to a given area of the game would be nice. It would give us better control of the sponsorships (other than just the basic) coming our way.

    - AI clubs are not that good at long-term building the squad. It's quite easy to snatch the best players (even ones free of contract). It's beyond me how Benfica in season 2 is able to sign Ruben de lá Red in favour of M. City, Artem Milavskyi of AC Milan and Davide di Gennaro of Lazio.

    - These last two take me to the General Manager role. These guys should have attributes as they're the ones who pull off some brilliant signings. It would influence how much we pay and attract players other than just the dimension of the institution. Perhaps including the financial search that I mentioned before, but that wouldn't be too realistic I guess.

Features for Football Manager 2011 released! link

The one I'm most excited about is that now league reputation is actually dynamic and can change depending on how clubs in that league do. Which is great for both long-term games (maybe England will drop significantly in stature 30 years down the line and Ligue 1 will become the premier league competition in Europe) as well as for those who build Icelandic powerhouses and in the past had been frustrated by the fact that their club had won the UEFA Champions League, yet their league reputation stayed exactly as low as it had always been.

"... and the most requested feature that the Sports Interactive community have asked for in the last few years, dynamic league reputation, which makes for an even more realistic model of the footballing world."

I'm pretty excited about this game. It's definitely going to be the first FM that I will buy since FM 2008. Au Revoir social life! kidding (for the most part)

I was looking at this game on steam the other day. Do you actually participate in the games or are there just simulations? What I mean is, do you control players on the pitch or just make manager decisions?

you do not control the players like in fifa or pes. you pick the lineup, make substitutions, and set the tactics. you are the manager only and when i say that i don't mean there is any shortage of things to do: you do everything but literally control the players in game.

I highly recommend this game. Once I played this, FIFA and PES were in my rear-view mirror forever.

Agreed. As someone who long ago grew bored of playing the same clubs in England and Spain, it is nice to have a chance to grow a league. It is really annoying to grow a club from a few divisions down to multiple Champions league winner and still be treated like a third class club from a meaningless league. Is this just a simple change in how league rep is calculated? Is that same figure used in all relevant areas including transfers, sponsors, manager score/rep, new players potential, etc?

A quick look at the features of FM11 makes me think I need to catch up after not buying the last couple FM versions and order this one. I worry about bugs and how long it takes to get patches to get the game stable. This was a real issue in the past and led me to not buy new versions for at least 6 months and was part of why I quit buying them at all. Anyone who has been playing these since before the CM to FM switch able to tell me how buggy the last couple have been at release and how long it took to get the serious ones fixed?

It's more of that league rep is constantly recalculated year after year instead of being set in stone.

I am assuming that it will affect everything, including transfers, etc.

I haven't been playing the game that long, but have been for several years, buying a new one every year (since this is pretty much the only game I ever play, sports or otherwise, I figure I can afford to buy a new one every year). I would say that it is usually not perfect until after the third patch which would likely be sometime in 2011, but in my opinion it is still playable immediately. There may however be some issues come up like maybe if you play as a third-division Spanish club, there might be something in your third season or something random like that. But generally it's usually okay immediately. Especially if you don't read the SI message boards to find out every single little thing that is wrong with the game. ;):rolleyes:

That's great. I remember storming Europe a few years back with Bayer Leverkusen and still having a hard time attracting players.

    Amazon is saying November 16.

    Steam says Nov 5.

Lot of different dates floating around.

Does anyone know if you buy the boxed version are you just going to have to play through Steam anyways? If so, shouldn't you just buy the digital copy from steam? Are there any drawbacks of getting digital vs. boxed?

Assuming it's the same as previous years, you should have no need for Steam whatsoever if you are buying a boxed version. You just need to ensure you keep an eye on when patches are being released (Steam does it automatically).

Otherwise, I love Steam (digital) because I don't have to worry about having a CD and can just load it up. Also, as I mentioned, the patches get updated automatically through Steam Some do like boxed versions for their own reasons, however.

Is this game better than FIFA Manager 11?

I would say that it is 100 times better. I may not have played FIFA Manager this year but I played it a couple years ago and Football Manager blew it away. The only thing that FIFA Manager has over Football Manager is that the graphics for the FIFA Manager game are better. But that's it. The game itself is much better in Football Manager.

Ok, I bought FM2011 and have started playing a bit. I'm trying to figure out what effect selecting different nations has on the game beyond what teams I'm allowed to control. So far, it seems that if I select a lot of nations, I get a lot more foreign players presented to me by agents and processing times when i click Continue are huge. Is there a disadvantage to only selecting the country in which my chosen league is in? Am I restricted from recruiting outside that country? Also, being a sounders fan, the first team I chose was the sounders and the first thing that happens? Montero wants to leave my club, I ask him to stay and suddenly 4 players are mad at me for wanting to keep montero. :/
