I wanted to open this thread up because already I'm seeing bad signs. The same signs I feared when we signed this guy up. He doesn't know our players, how to organize them, or how to motivate them. I don't consider myself a tactical expert, but there are things that are jumping out at me when I watch these games. Now we've lost to Colombia and Venezuela, two teams that we need to be beating if we want to make a serious effort to qualify in 2014. Here's my opinion of the friendly vs. Colombia last night in NJ.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy How long did we sign this guy up for? We're probably stuck with him for the Copa America, but I hope we can get someone else before the qualifiers start.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy everything you said was right. right now rueda is adapting and learning our team. but he's doing it the hard way. you pointed out the exact same errors I saw. rueda hasn't solved the main issue we have: Getting scored on in the last few minutes of a game. the goal was 95% defensive mid error. Can't really blame the defense and definitely not Baguera who had another great game.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy I think we need to have a little patience, Rueda is still trying different players. Bolillo and Suarez were notorious for performing poorly in friendlies. As we can see with Hurtado and Espinoza gone, the new defenders, guagua, mina, caicedo, checa, have pretty much sucked. We no longer have a decent right back since Ulises. Castillo's and Valencia's Injuries have really hurt the midfield. And Benitez as usual, can score a buttload of goals in mexico, but can do very little in the NT. At the end of the day it will all come down to having another Tin Delgado who can score when it matters. If we don't, not even Mourinho will take us to the next world cup.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy bolillo and Suarez didn't suck at friendlies. Ecuador has Always under preformed in friendlies it's no surprise. Guagua and Mina did a lot better than checa and caicedo. the goal occurred b/c of a def. mid error. noboa had to be the 5 and Quiroz had to move up and down the mid helping Noboa get the ball and distribute it to the wings and forwards when we had possession. Quiroz's job was to take long distance shots outside the box as well, that's not noboas job. Rueda assigned the wrong tasks to the WRONG PEOPLE. Same thing with Benitze and Jaime Ayovi. Wrong roles were assigned b/c Rueda lacks knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses our guys have. Yesterdays game was in most part due to his errors and when that happens it's even more upsetting. we definitely had more than enough material to win yesterdays game but if rueda does read the game and know how to strategize correctly with our guys then this is gonna happen a lot
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy I believe we need to give this guy more than a couple games.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy Yes they did suck at friendlies, and copa america and pretty much everything but WCQ games. Guagua has had a bad season at ldu and wasn't great on the NT, wasn't any better that what Cuchara did. Noboa is NOT a #5 and its a waste to use him in the position, we have planty of good #5 and we can give more freedom to someone like Noboa. Benitez and Ayovi are playing their first games together, a little bit early to have them become Zamorano and Salas.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy The only conclusion we can draw from the Poland game is that Rueda should have known that 6 players were not going to be available. Other than that, it's hard to know what he did tactically since he didn't have many choices of starters or subs.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy Profesor Rueda should look into the Serie B. He should pick the top scorer of the Serie B and give him a chance at the National Team. A player that knows how to score goals could do it anywhere. It worked for Vizuete, when he placed Montero from Independiente del Valle that at that time was in the Serie B and the rest is history. Of course, this player has to meet the top qualifications that would benefit the team.
Basically, it's good we have a lot of black guys.
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy when people call our players "n*gros hp son malos etc etc" I'm always so thankful our country is filled with great black athletes. Height, speed, and strength. and on top of that they're talented. Such a plus for the NT. BE Jealous!
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy I can just imagine that being said by a coach in the U.S. Would be considered so politically incorrect!
Re: Rueda - Coaching, tactics and strategy We played a 4-5-1 last night. Benitez was alone up front. Arroyo and Rojas were out wide, and Saritama, Castillo and Quiroz played centrally. This is an interesting change, and it obviously worked out, especially in the first half because we kept the ball and pressed them hard which forced them into making mistakes.
OK, that was 7 months ago. I don't see ONE sign of improvement. Not ONE. Honestly, I was deep down hoping that Colombia would just start scoring a bunch of goals and make it embarrassing, so that Chiriboga would come under pressure to fire Rueda. I don't blame the players. They did what they know, and for the most part, they performed as expected. But let's analyze the team selection and tactics a bit further, shall we? 1. Our starting midfield consisted of 3 defensive-oriented midfielders (Saritama, Noboa, Castillo), a former left winger who has played as a left back for most of the last 5 years of his career (W. Ayovi), and a right winger who is barely match fit after being injured for 6 months (Valencia). 2. Our defense consisted of 1 wingback converted to central defender (Mina), and 2 completely inexperienced wingbacks (Paredes, Nazareno) - and when I say inexperienced, I mean no national team experience, not even international club tournament experience...ZERO experience. And it showed. Bad. 3. The starting goalkeeper and striker (Dominguez, J. Ayovi) have probably a combined 5 appearances at this level. So let's see...based on the above, this lineup consisted of 3 defensive midfielders, 4 wingbacks, a right winger who hasn't played in 6 months, and a goalkeeper and striker that have barely played at this level. So you have 10 players either out of position, or not ready to play 90 minutes at this level. A few were BOTH. AT LEAST HE GOT JAIRO CAMPOS RIGHT!!!!!! I'm sorry, but this coach SUCKS. Send his ass right back to Colombia or Honduras.
I had to delete some offensive remarks. Please keep it civil. At the end of the day, Colombia and Ecuador are brother countries.
I was honestly one of the people that was always against Paredes being a right back and that retarded 4-5-1 system that I don't recall Ecuador using that since the stone age. JC Paredes doesn't not have the build of a player with defensive qualities and even has problems pulling up from our side of the field to the opponents. This is as absurd as putting Michael Arroyo in the left back position, no one would do that unless your retarded like Rueda of course. All we honestly have is Neicer Reasco, Mario Pineida, and Miguel Ibarra who is the most unfortunate person to play in Barcelona and rot a good yr of his career there. If he were at Liga THAT was the ideal candidate to claim that spot. The few times he had a shot, he did pretty damn well. Neicer is still in good shape IMO and Pineida is a bit more defensive out of the three but he's solid and starts regularly in Independiente. Nazareno is attack oriented and scares me when it's time to defend. He's not ready to be a starter. And he's a huge idiot for rejecting to leave Barcelona this yr to play in. a team that will give him international recognition and where he'll improve dramatically. His loss and in turn it's ours too.
Well its about time I put my two cents in...Fire Rueda!!! And no Im not over reacting to yesterdays lost, im over that, I never had faith in Rueda. Not from the begining and definetaly not now. First thing I wanna say WTF are Palacios, Saritama, and Minda doing on the NT. They all suck. I know some ppl like Saritama, I never did. Hes and average player for Dep Quito but hes been garbage whenever hes played for the NT. Same thing for Minda. What really ticks me off is the Palacios calling. As for the Parades discussion, he had that good game at RB when we played Mexico, after that hes showed why he is better suited as a winger coming of the bench. Guerron should have been called up for these two friendlies. Hes been playing extremely well wherever they put him. Another player who should been called up was Ibarra. The situation is complicated, we have yet to find a quality backline. We have players playing out of position. Another thing is Klimo should have started in place of Dominguez. Hes been playing well with Emelec, prob among the best keepers playing in Ecuador right now. Dominguez has never convinced me (srry Liga fans). He looks more nervous than a white kid walking into an all black ghetto neighborhood.
