I got NCAA Football 2011 last week for the first time in 3 years because I've had FIFA every year since. I figured after the World Cup I could tame my soccer fandom a lil bit. Anyway, on the game I've made a couple teams with "Teambuilder." On one of the teams I figured I would name the players after the US soccer players. Whaddya think? OFFENSE QB - Bocanegra: captain. QB - Holden QB - Shea HB - Donovan HB - Davies FB - Buddle H-Back - Altidore H-Back - Braun WR - Tim Howard: just toss it up and let him go get it. WR - E. Johnson WR - Bedoya WR - Tracy TE - Goodson TE - Cameron LT - Marshall LG - Califf: believe me, I debated it. C - Ching RG - Casey RT - Gonzalez DEFENSE DE - Onyewu DE - Guzan DE - Conrad DT - Jay Demerit DT - Marcus Hahnemann LOLB - Ricardo Clark MLB - Jones MLB - Bradley MLB - Beckerman ROLB - Edu ROLB - Wynne #1 CB - Beasley CB - Rogers CB - Findley CB - Bornstein FS - Cherundolo FS - Kljestan SS - Dempsey: I just don't see him being fast enough for anything on offense. SS - Alston SPECIAL TEAMS K - Torres K - Adu P - Spector Anyone else wanna play? I'm sure I've left off someone. Future players? Past players? Of course Reyna would have been a quarterback.
I like what you did except Holden needs to be a WR because he is short and quick ala Wes Welker. And Howard (former basketball player) needs to be a TE ala Tony Gonzalez former basketball player).
Donovan should be a slot reciever. Casey should be fulback. Buddle should be running back Howard should be QB. Remember that pass to Donovan against Algeria? Eddie Johnson should be a cb
It's called Freedom of Speech. Perhaps you've heard of it. Anyway, I still don't see the relevance to US Soccer. They don't play gridiron so why theorize what positions they'd play in it?
You don't have to see the relevance. You just have to learn how to ignore things instead of turning everything you see on a message board into a white hot argument. Further, you attack the relevance of the thread. It does not violate the terms of service, isn't misplaced in N&A, and is just a little fun a couple of posters want to enjoy. So, either you're trying to stir up trouble, or your asking the thread to be closed cause you don't like it. If it's the former, you're flaming, and violating TOS. If it's the latter, then you're really hypocritical for playing the freedom of speech card.
(not from this quote^^^^)Dang, I just wanted to have some fun to see what other people thought. And when you think even deeper, you can see how people analyze players' attributes. I put Holden at quarterback because of his intelligence, decision making, speed of thought, and willingness to be in the center of the offense. I put Donovan at running back because as a leader, I would want the ball in his hands all the time. He's not a diva like so many WR's, he just wants that responsibility. I put Casey on the line because I think of him as a slow, yet smart player that has good footwork. If you want Holden as a WR, then you think more about his speed and movement. Same with Donovan; you'd be thinking about his potential to go deep and make big plays with his quickness. With Casey at FB, you may respect his pace more than I do. Agree with Howard at TE.
Altidore - Kicker Davies - Kicker Adu - Free Agent Donovan - Kicker Dempsey - Kicker Bradley - Kicker Onyewu - Kicker Bocanegra - Kicker Bornstein - Towel Boy Cherundolo - Kicker Spector - Kicker Demerit - Kicker Howard - Kicker
*dead* *wipes eyes* On that note, have any MLS players ever actually made that transition? There are more than a few NFL teams that could use a reliable kicker.
Yeah the OSU place kicker was a former MLS player. His name is Devin Barclay http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1151187&Q_SEASON=2010 He was on extra time radio yesterday talking about his transition to football and giving up pro soccer. By was on I mean they had a recorded interview of him talking and replayed it.
Several years ago 49ers were really struggling with their kicker and their QB suggested they get Landon Donovan...so a radio station arranged to have LD kick a few field goals for fun. They had him do it in 5-yard increments and he nailed the 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and I think he missed the 70 yarder by about 5 yards wide. But he admitted it would be totally different if a bunch of huge guys were running right at him as he tried to kick.
On a related note, I have an unbelievable knack for putting the ball in the net when there aren't any opponents on the field. The only problem is that I have to make most my runs out of my own half to avoid being called offside. Gets tiring, though I do save energy by not having to track back. As for this thread, my only thought is that the list would probably look a lot like this: Offense: Altidore (a)--WR Defense: Altidore (b)--Safety Demerit--middle LB Onyewu--DE Special Teams: [] Hollering Coach: Howard Friedel Injured Reserve: everybody else
I play this game alot, I would probably put the players based on thier actual size, and the few other atributes, come to think about it do u have any other the MLS teams?? i might do something later. ATLDC79 on easports online OFFENSE QB - Bocanegra: captain.- id probably would put Boca at Tight end to me he looks and feels the profile QB - Holden(K) QB - Shea HB - Donovan (slot reciever/QB/ SS/ or FS) HB - Davies(wr, kr) FB - Buddle (HB) H-Back - Altidore H-Back - Braun WR - Tim Howard: just toss it up and let him go get it.(QB, TE) WR - E. Johnson(qb, wr, kr) WR - Bedoya WR - Tracy TE - Goodson TE - Cameron LT - Marshall LG - Califf: believe me, I debated it. C - Ching RG - Casey RT - Gonzalez DEFENSE DE - Onyewu DE - Guzan DE - Conrad DT - Jay Demerit DT - Marcus Hahnemann(LB) LOLB - Ricardo Clark MLB - Jones MLB - Bradley MLB - Beckerman(DE) ROLB - Edu(DE) ROLB - Wynne(FS,) #1 CB - Beasley(KR,PR) CB - Rogers CB - Findley CB - Bornstein FS - Cherundolo(QB, TE) FS - Kljestan SS - Dempsey: (QB slot WR) SS - Alston SPECIAL TEAMS K - Torres K - Adu P - Spector LOL hard to figure i have to admit, the USMNT is Big size wise in soccer, but small football wise, alot of athletes and potential versitality. Maybe depends on the FOOTBALL offense and defense set up. I think the USMNT would probably profile a 3-4 Defenseor a nickel or 52, because you have alot of flexible guys... Offensively, i would say a texas tech type offense like the spread or run and shoot, not alot of beef for a decent ground attack. I mean im just looking at it just off their size. also i think bobbradley would be the def coordinator, and Arena be the headcoach. clint mathis- RB FB, SS, Lb Cobi Jones KR, CB SS Macelo Balboa, LB, Sammei(WR, KR, DB), Pablo masteroni LB, SS, Meola LB, TE, thomas dooley- QB, alexi lalas (OLB, SS) the USMNT has history have a flexible bunch.
Tony Meola tried out with the Jets right after the 1994 World Cup. Got a lot of media coverage at the time. For example: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1005461/index.htm He didn't make the team, though.
Very interesting! I think he's a Raiders fan, wonder if he knows that Janikowski has a 4-year, $16 million contract (with an additional $9 mil in guarentees)?
I know right. The way I thought of it was if all of the guys had started football earlier on and built their bodies accordingly. So basically all of them would be beefed up more and linemen would have added some bulk. A spread offense and a 3-3-5 or a 3-4 would make most usage of their (lack of) size and speed. Agreed.
