Either that or it could just be marketing speak. Remember they're under no obligation to acknowledge NASL exists
That one logo next to the USL crest has me curious as to who are they? It's not the Dayton D. Lions that's for sure.
That just seems....juvenile...if that is what USL are playing at, and it could backfire in a way that the USSF could say the NASL doesn't meet the D2 standards but meets D3 standards. The USSF could replace the USL with the NASL as the D3 league for at least a year since the USL has not applied. Which begs the question; does a league have to apply for D3 league status? Also, does anyone know if there is a 'cost' to be designated as the D2 league (other than the upgrades to the league and clubs) and is there a end date when the USSF will no longer accept applications.
Yes, but checking the URL of that banner, there's nothing to indicate what it's associated with. I'm wondering what article from what source is using that banner, and more importantly how reliable they'd be.
Ah, totally forgot about those guys. Yeah, it's really going to be interesting to see what the USL has in store. I wonder if they are still going to go through with the USL Caribbean League: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USL_Caribbean_League
I'm pretty sure the league does have to apply for D3 status. If you look at InsideMNSoccer.com's document with pro-guidelines there's still some limitations to be any form of a pro-league. I think all this talk of 'not getting sanctioned' is taken out of the context of "not getting sanctioned as a D2 league." If USL decides to not get sanctioned AT ALL by USSF they'll sign their own death certificate.
If Papadakis is going to pull a Francisco Marcos, then it's all going to crumble before you start building the foundation. He has to remember that filling your own pockets doesn't keep your league or as of right now, your new supposed league afloat. If they want to bring up some of the PDL sides and allow them the option to go pro or make those clubs that were once a pro side to get back up and stay there, then make sure you bring the right ones to make it successful. You force some of these clubs to the pro level and they can't hold on, they won't go back to PDL fast enough. It could be closed for good. I wished Papadakis wouldn't act like an ass, but so far he is learning from his buddy Marcos.
fyp that is 11 teams in 2 groups? Noth and South? So Austin and Portland way out west; Antigua way North East; Orlando South east. I do not see how it can work, maybe add another team west of Auztin and create a 4 team western conference? U23 right?
Good grief people! We have already challenged the validity of that club crests banner. It is NOT an official one, and is being hosted on a non-soccer site. It means NOTHING!
Dude nothing in USL will be official until the day before the season starts in 2011, we are doing what BS alway do.
I finally found out the source of that banner. It was sent out on a USL email newsletter (according to a thread over in the Orlando expansion forum). My bet is that someone screwed up on the newsletter, but unlike a website, it's not possible to retract it.
Really? I'm pretty sure FIFA didn't give a crap about us until we bid for the World Cup. And they still gave it to us even though we didn't have a D1 league, and wouldn't for two more years. Looking back at it now, that says a lot about what really matters to FIFA. They know how much money they'll make off another US WC. That easily trumps any concerns they'll express over us not having a stable pyramid. All Sunil's really doing with this standards stuff is making sure there aren't any lawsuits between now and December.
That's true. It will be interesting to see what comments FIFA makes when they award us the 2022 Cup. But I really doubt it will be anything as stern as the conditions we got for 1994. Conditions so stern that we didn't even have MLS until two years later. FIFA said in 1989 "We'll give you the Cup, but you need to have a league." Rothenberg said "Look, we're kinda busy organizing the Cup. OK if we wait until after? (Besides, you're going to get way more money than you've ever gotten before.)" FIFA: "OK." Hosting the WC here in 2022 will set even more records for money and attendance, so they're really not going to get in any twist over the state of our lower division leagues. As long as there aren't any lawsuits. My bet is that when we're awarded 2022 in December, FIFA's statement won't say word one about D2 or lower soccer in the US, other than generic comments about the 'flood of talent we're about to produce' or something generically nice like that.
If I am not mistaken, the original MLS plan included a start in 1995, not 1996 But you are right of course, we all understand that uncle Sepp and Fifa care more about the money they can make than about minor league soccer in the USA
well, I'll say this I hope FIFA would pressure USSF/MLS for more 'proper soccer pyramid' in US soccer landscape.
