Thanks to some help from FCGP, we're officially going into the playoffs as the #2 seed. That means we get the luxury of watching Philly and Washington fight for the opportunity to come to Boston and play the Breakers. The big game is Thursday, Sept. 23 at 8:00. Be sure to get your standing room tickets early and come join the Dock!

I haven't been too impressed by Philly or Washington lately, so I like Boston's chances against either team. Any preferences?

Washington is hot lately, and Philly is very cold. A-Rod has been invisible of late after the awesome start. We'll have to see if the Indy's can get it back together, but I agree with Meinert6 that I feel good about our chances either way. That Thursday night should be fun despite, or maybe because of, the cramped quarters.

Only because those mean old officials stole their victories.

Just ask Hope, she will Tweet it like it is.

    I didn't know diarrhea-of-the-thumbs was a legit disability but I am learning.
Maybe they can name this condition after her?

Well the good news is this certainly vindicates the Riptide and the Dock!
Obviously she's just out of control!

In case people were interested in how Boston is handling playoff ticket sales:

    - There are only 3,100 tickets available at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium venue, but average attendance has been 4,500. So, the front office is taking reservations for tickets and a waiting list for bleacher seats.
    - There are 1,000 bleacher seats ($20), 2,000 standing room only tickets (also $20) "which will allow access to the grass berms and paved viewing pavilions that surround the field on three sides", and 100 pitch-side seats ($60).
    - Season ticket holders have exclusive access to purchase bleacher seats until 5PM Wednesday, September 15th, after which remaining seats will be released to the waiting list.
    - Standing room only tickets went on sale online Monday, September 13th, at 9AM.

    I already bought my ticket.

I wonder if the low capacity means that Bloco/Afro Brazil won't be in attendance?

Bloco/Afro Brazil is in the house. Just talked to Marcus over the weekend - they cancelled another gig to be there. He says they are expecting a good drumming turnout, since the Berklee School of Music is back in session now.

They will be on the top of the grass berm behind one of the goals, right next to the Riptide standing area.

Boston Breakers head coach Tony DiCicco, a former goalkeeper for the US National Team, says it’s no coincidence that his second place team started to pick up momentum when rookie goalkeeper and top national recruit Alyssa Naeher won the starting job from Ashley Phillips. “Until she stabilized that position, we were giving up soft goals and this league is tough and you can’t do that,” he said, speaking in his office on the grounds of Harvard Stadium. “I don’t think there’s any doubt that when she became the starter that’s when our run of wins started.”

Maybe the timing is correct, but there is not much cause and effect in my opinion. Not to take anything away from Naeher but the keeper position is not even in the top three reasons as to why the Breakers have done better in the last 2/3rds of the season. Naehers and Phillip GA are almost exactly the same.

The problems at the beginning of season were offensive, not defensive.

    Here's what stimulated the resurgence:

    1. Change in formation
    2. Angeli playing and scoring
    3. Cheney playing more as a target forward
    4. Lilly being used smarter
    5. Fabiana being used less

Agreed. I'd also add Tarpley's arrival to the list.

Absolutely. But as a legendary goalkeeper coach he had to take credit of the part of the game he understands best.

And don't underestimate Tarpley's emergence that allowed Smith to get forward more.
And Osborne leadership on and off the field. It may have been coincidence, but her play and leadership after returning from the leg infection seemed to give the team a whole new attitude.
I have to think almost any keeper (except maybe Luckenbill) would have a chance to look pretty good behind these field players especially that back 4.

True. And maybe he's pimping his player a little for the National Team coach.

Great point. That ought to have been # 3 on the list.

    Good point as well.

All in all, that moves keeper change to at least # 8 on the list !

And the opponent will be (envelope please) Philadelphia who beat Washington in double overtime 1-0 on an Amy Rodriguez
    goal.

The only thing that worries me about this matchup is the potential substitution of Danesha Adams into the game in the 2nd half. She was very dangerous in the 2nd half vs. Washington. Having LePeilbet, Dieke, and Angeli having already played hard for a half, and the only substitute possible being Kasey Moore who could not match Adams' speed concerns me. As long as the Breakers account for this they should be fine to advance forward because the rest of the matchups I think favor the Breakers.

Agree that Adams looked like a game changer on Sunday. The good news is that if she doesn't start, they are pretty one-dimensional offensively (unless Magnusslaughter unleashes a couple of bombs from distance).
Hope Dieke has the legs left for Adams, she is the only one with enough speed to manage her.

Lets just hope none of the Breakers get hit with a red card early in the game. That final game without Alex last year was heart-breaking.

Thanks for the news about Afro Brazil. I think that having them at games contributes a lot to the atmosphere. It makes things festive and sort of turns games into "events".

I just checked the online ticketing, and it looks like tickets are still available. I was thinking that there would already be a sellout, but I know that selling playoff game tickets tends to be more difficult than regular season. (Shorter time to announce game dates, plus WPS playoff season encroaches into school season.) I suspect that the game will sell out by kick-off, maybe from walk-ups.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new venue.

I think the defense kept up with her fairly well for the most part. I didn't expect her to bitch slap the ball into the net like Tierry Henry for the winner. Unfortunately it is what it is.
