End of 1st half. Canada dominated the centre, Peru the leftwing (from Canada's side). DeGuzman + DeRosario >> Ramirez + Ballon Guizasola + Farfan >> Peters + Johnson Both team had chances, but a slight edge to Canada that was closer to scoring.
Embarassing considering tis is at home, and this is our top notch squad. It's performances liek this that are gonna give guys like David Hoilett and Teal Bunbury second thoughts about choosing to play for us.
The only ones I saw near me vanished before kick-off. I think there were some at the back of the section ... Still a pathetic attendance by Canadians.
Maybe in friendly matches like this, but for fn of Peru like you who have to go through CONMEBOL qualifying, the unfortunate truth is that yeah, WCQ standings are what matters. Nothing against Peru, ranked 39th in the world or whatever is pretty damn good, but I would still say Canada has a better shot at qualifying for the WC based on confederations, and that now 8 teams, not 6, get into our final stage. ANYWAYS... I really liked Simeon Jackson, Marcel de Jong before he got hurt, and most of all Adam Straith. I'd really like Jackson to play Rob Friend's role from yesterday though, because he's clearly more suited to be a striker, and DeRo can set him up behind him. Straith + Peters + Attakora + Stalteri sounds nice for now, the first 3 alone seem like a solid foundation defensively 2 years from now when WCQ begins. What we need now is ro pray we get Hoilett + Bunbury, because DeRo will be 34 when qualifying starts and we need 3 good forwards to carry the offensive load, and we can always use Rob Friend and even Ali Gerba off the bench. Lets hope de Jong recovers and continues to move in the right direction, as he along with Hutch and de Guzman can anchor a decent enough midfield for CONCACAF qualifying. All that being said, for Canada to be taken seriously, we have to at the very least manage to draw teams like Peru at home, preferably pull off a win. That's why I felt the 2-0 loss to be embarrassing.
no excuses if yall lose to our B-Team. because thats what we're coming with...our straight up B-Team, youngsters and all lol. should be fun
The problem for Canada was on the left side, Peters couldn't deal with Farfan. Otherwise, DeRo and DeGuz have the experience, but a destroyed was needed in the middle. DeJong did a good job in the first half, but after when the team was reorganized to a 4-4-2 (after DeJong's injury) and there was no one in the DM position, it was game over.
Blame the CSA. They did nothing to market this game. Why didn't they approach every community league and club between London and Kingston to buy tickets? Why didn't they advertise this game either in print or on billboards? Why was there no radio or television advertising? If you want a crowd, you have to work for it. If this was England, the FA would be promoting this game six to eight weeks before with all sorts of adverts. Sure, soccer is number one over there, but they don't rest on that fact. They sell. Why not the CSA?
still though...most of our players are about 21-23 yr of age and play in our league...except for Maynor Figueroa who is the only one who was called up from abroad...seeing as this friendly doesn't merit our A-team.
