this is not exactly true. I believe he played college soccer, and was DEEPLY involved in both the WC 1994, and was definitely one of the main figures in the birth of MLS. To call him a "fan" is completely misleading.

I've pointed them out for years.

    Educate yourself.

Learn about the people in charge here and how the system works.

Posters with knowledge of the system here always leave BS quickly because
this isn't the place to solve problems.

It's for gripers, whiners, the ignorant and "super genuises" with all the answers, who constantly show they have zero idea how the system works and why.

Then they want to be spoon fed like kids and complain when they are treated like kids.

Dozens of threads on BS over the last several years explaining most of it but that's not fun. Facts, reality, ho hum.

Do a lil research and learn a bit.

There have been some formative experiences that Sunil went through that have taught him to be very careful when it comes to USSF politics. When Alan Rothenberg was running for re-election as USSF president in 1994, he almost lost because the youth soccer and amateur soccer factions felt that too much focus was being put on the development of the pro game. In 1998, Sunil himself lost an election for Vice President of the USSF, also largely because of resentment of the growing power of the pro game. The "little people" within American soccer did not go quietly into the night as the pro game took root over the past two decades. Sunil seems to have internalized the lesson that the best way to deal with these factions is with a lot of patience and hand holding. This precludes the bold and decisive action that some would like to see. But ultimately the professional faction has prevailed on all the major issues. So maybe there is merit in his approach.

he has presided over the most important events in US soccer history. It is a little upsetting that "fans" badmouth the guy who is probably the most important person in the history of USA soccer.

Yup & repped. {Or I would have it I didn't get the dreaded "You must spread..." message]

Ever think that Gulati is the anti-Blatter? Blatter is loud, possible crooked, sticks his foot in his mouth constantly, does everything with an eye on politics and the PR value.

Gulati keeps things quiet, in-house and never makes any announcement until things are finalized. So natrually, people don't like him...

    Baaa...baaahahahahaha. :D

Seriously though, we are lucky we live in a country with a federation who actually cares about advancing the game. Thank God we don't have to put up with crooks in the caribbean.

So, in other words, slow and steady wins the race? He has slowly pre-empted those factions during his time in the USSF?

In my view, I think Gulati is doing a great job. You only have to look at the shape of Canada's national team to see how good the US team has been doing under the USSF. Canada has dropped over 40 spots in the FIFA world rankings in just 1 years time, the team hasn't won a game since 2009, and Canada hasn't had a good coach since Frank Yallop. As a USA and Canada fan, I am embarrased to admit I am also a fan of Canada.

Pretty much. It seems that a lot of the bitterness and factional infighting that characterized soccer politics in the 1990s has faded away.

Gulati isn't going anywhere in the immediate future.

But the pressure he is facing must be coming now from the major sponsors of the program to a greater extent than the youth cliques.

ESPN must have gone into a tizzy when the US was knocked out by Ghana and those guys write a lot of checks to the USSF.

There comes a point when slow, deliberate analytical leadership crosses over into slow, ill-advised paralysis leadership. Sunil has been at the helm long enough to know where the line is. I do not think any of us want to see a rerun of the BB hiring process. He should make a decision soon or realize he has lost his effectiveness and leave.

I would rather see Sunil extend BB for 2 years and Sunil resign now, then to waste these next 2 years.
