yeah, Guess all the teams he owns are getting the rapids treatment these days: Trying to justify Stan Kroenke's ownership bid of the Rams with the empty GM spot in Denver isn't easy for some. David Griffin, a well-regarded former Phoenix Suns executive who is currently unemployed, has resisted Denver's efforts to hire him as the guy who must clean up this mess with Carmelo Anthony. So what's the hang-up? Money. Griffin and the Nuggets have been unable to reach an agreement on his compensation, according to two league sources. Say what? You mean to tell me that Kroenke is ready, willing and able to convert his 40 percent stake into 100 percent ownership of the St. Louis Rams, which are valued at $750 million? But, at the same time, the Nuggets are unable to offer Griffin a salary competitive enough to lure him off his sofa? The Denver Post Interesting info from co-worker: The NFL also forbids its majority owners from owning any sports teams (except for soccer teams and Arena Football League teams) in other NFL cities, and prohibits owners from investing in casinos or being otherwise involved in gambling operations. How so? Soccer teams are specifically exempted from the rule, so he doesn't need to change anything with the Rapids.
The way I read the comment was that he's still able to hold onto the Rapids legally, or within guidelines. However, I don't think this means he's going to start giving extra love to the Rapids. If anything I think it makes it more appealing for him to sell off the Rapids. The only reason he might not is b/c of the Arsenal affiliation. Not that I think Arsenal, or Kroenke, value the Rapids itself as a club, but b/c it's more of a complete soccer portfolio. I don't know. I guess in the end I don't think this changes anything. Stan will probably be even more ambivalent about the Rapids' plights now that he has a new shiny toy.

Speaking about Stan's 29 % ownership in Arsenal, I recently read a brief article in the sports section of our local San Deigo fish wrapper that indicated that the current management of Arsenal had come up with a plan to sell shares of the team to their regular season ticket holders in an attempt to keep the team from falling into the hands of the Americans. Xenophobia, or maybe someone has seen what Kronke has done to his own professional team in the USA. Quien sabe?
I think it's an attempt to keep Arsenal's ownership structure the way it is, and thereby preventing a takeover by one person. I don't think it's necessarily to keep the Americans out. The board has been trying to keep a guy named Ushmanov, who also has a pretty big stake in Arsenal, at bay.
