Add a couple more players on season ending injury list for the Red Stars:

Elise Weber- labral tear of her left hip
    Julianne Sitch- torn ACL

    Along with Kelsey Davis

    Also injured for unknown time:
    Kate Markgraf
    Jessica McDonald

Don't know if Carney is injured or not. Didn't play last night.

    Anyone else I haven't named?

This is so unfortunate for these young ladies and the team.

Well Carney just had a stomach bug apparently so she should be good.

I give my condolences to Sitch and Weber. That picture of Sitch is so sad to see her in so much pain.

just saw a tweet from Carney that she was all packed and ready to go "home". Wondering if the family would be surprised when she just turned up out of the blue...home to England?

She would be a huge loss for the Stars.

I know she got called into the English National Team for the upcoming WWC Qualifiers (on 8/21 and 8/25..I think), so maybe she is just going home early since the Red Stars do not play this weekend. Chapman got called up as well.

ok, whew...I thought it meant for good...that because they lost on Wed and then she leaves they were basically saying the season's over! Good luck to her and Katie. Do you know if Kelly Smith is going too? To bad we couldn't have played Boston without her!

I was at that game Wednesday and it was REALLY hard to see her being carted off, in tears, obviously in a lot of pain!! I hope she makes a full comeback!

I think you were thinking of Sitch being injured? Yeah, it was hard. She's so tough that you knew it had to be something serious to put her out like that. Plus my seats are near where her family sits and they were really worried too. I'm sure when you have someone so close to you who plays at such a high level you are used to seeing them get injured, but knowing how strong #38 is and to see her in so much pain it had to be really hard.
    Get well soon!

The injuries suck. I wish each player a successful rehab. Neither are easy/quick rehabs.

I guess this injury may be the reason Weber wasn't rostered for Wed's game. It might have been nice to know at the time. Oh well.

Any further word on the extent of Markgraf's injury?

Boy, I'm sure glad we gave up Asante.

Oh well, at least Engen won't have to cover for Markgraf as well as playing her own position for a while...

I hate knee injuries in women's sports.
It's not fair to women to get hurt so much.
They are like 4 times more likely to get a knee injury than male athletes are.
And there's nothing anyone can do about it (doctors included).
It's a physiological thing, something about how more % of their central and lower body weight is put on their knees when running and planting on their knees than when males are running and planting on their knees.

I guess it makes sense, since nearly all females have much bigger hips and a bigger caboose than males do (pound for pound proportionately). Just a lot more % of body pressure and % of body weight on their knees.

A few years ago, I was at the gym, and a woman tore her ACL while running and getting off the treadmill. Well, I'm not sure she tore it, but she was in a lot of agony, and she told everything she felt her knee completely go, as if something just tore completely. She was not in good shape and the ambulance took her off.

After how the defense looked after Markgraf went out w/ the concussion, I'd have thought you would appreciate her more in her absence. Not saying I'd call her up to the WNT right now but still.

Yes, there is a difference between the number of knee injuries women players have but in this case Sitch's injury was not due to physiological differences. It was because the defender took her legs out while she was in the air.

Do you know if they posted the match in the webcast archive yet? Cause I'd love to see exactly what happened.

That's not what write-ups about the game said. It said she planted to kick and then twisted and her ACL went, which is very typical.

I'll be the first to admit if I was mistaken, but it looked pretty clear from where my seats are that the way her leg was planted (which resulted in the injury) was due to a very awkward landing after having her legs swept while she was in the air.

I did not see the webcast yet and don't know how long it takes for them to get posted on the home page.
