I thought it might be appropriate to have a thread dedicated to recent news. Here are a couple recent articles. I posted this one in another thread: http://detroit.sbnation.com/2010/8/10/1615179/silverdome-soccer-renovation-mls I haven't seen this one posted yet: http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/08/08/dormant-for-five-years-silverdome-undergoing-great-revival/

Good summary of the articles posted so far. No one asked us for comments or any details and we hung around for a while after the event too.
Apparently I inspired a Chicago Fire fan to write some pretty amusing satire. http://beerandsoccer.com/2010/08/13/mls-commissioner-don-garber-rules-out-detroit-expansion/ Rep to westloopirregular here on Big Soccer for the blog post.
Sorry for any confusion as to it being satirical. The welcome post, the about page and the text on the right column all try to convey that it is intended as satire, but I could see how they could be missed. Also, i use the satire hashtag for any tweets of any posts. As for RedRover, I am sorry you don't think it's funny. I've gotten some pretty positive feedback and I can't please everyone. Also, if you read the rest of the blog, you'll notice I spread the "love" around to as many teams as possible, including my own. Lastly, as an aside, I am totally in favor of an MLS side coming to Detroit. I think Chicago needs Milwaukee, Indianapolis, St. Louis, or Detroit as an additional regional rival (along with Columbus).
Here is another article about the game at the Silverdome and soccer in the US... it's old (Aug 11) but I didn't see it posted in here. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=21603105
Here is a recent article from ESPN. Detroit is mentioned briefly. "If a 21st spot does ever materialize, St. Louis, which did make a formal bid for a team in 2008, would face stiff competition from an ownership group in Detroit, which owns the 1994 World Cup site, the Pontiac Silverdome; Atlanta, also a soccer hotbed; and Ottawa. It doesn't help that a Women's Professional Soccer team in St. Louis didn't survive past a few weeks into its second season before folding."
Ottawa has no chance with a new stadium going up downtown for it's CFL team. The owners of that team seem interested in a D2 side. Besides, does Garber risk the wrath of American soccer people with a fourth Canadian team in the league? But yeah. I'd say Detroit has moved ahead of St. Louis into the top spot of Midwestern MLS candidates. Especially if Jeff Cooper is involved in St. Louis' plans.

The people who type out these kinds of blogs are nothing but glorified posters. Only a moron would take them seriously, like SteveUSSF_ref8.
Last I check BS is a site where members are allowed and encouraged to post your opinions. Blogs are the same, they are also posting their opinions as well. Just because you agree with the opinion and are not afraid to post your agreement, doesn't make you a moron. It's statement from members like RedRover which shows who really is the moron.
I wouldn't call this news. Basically correct, not that there is anything wrong with being a poster. Having a blog doesn't change your opinion into news though.
You've take opinion pieces from other sites and posted them here as if they were the facts. And that's why you get flamed here by others for being a moron. You're entitled to your own opinion. But your not entitled to your own facts.
FU, I have never used them as facts, just imformational opinions. So, if I am a moron you must be one also. Because it's said it takes one to know one. So welcome moron!
Sorry, but your use of the "Same to you, but more of it!!!!!" response doesn't do much for your claim of not being a moron.
My Bad. i should of stated that they are opinion pieces and not news. They do slant a little negative towards Detroit getting a team, but I kinda follow the old saying "there is no bad press".
Either that number 8 in your username is how old you are, or it's what your IQ is. Now, in order for me to avoid feeling any more of the burn from your stupid, say hello to my ignore list. Buh-bye, moron!
I sorry I have every stooped to your level. I should have known better. FYI, the "8" is my USSF referee grade. Soon I will be a grade "7".
