They'll shut up soon enough! Amauri with Balotelli and Cassano behind him will be a BEAST!!! He's used to playing with Diego and Iaquinta behind him, he will be in total heaven getting balls from creators like Balo and Cassano! I predict this trio will be great and will work very well together! Then later in games you throw in Quags and Rossi to add speed and finsh teams off!! FORZA ITALIA!

Truth be told, I'm really not expecting much out of this friendly in terms of results. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Ivory Coast actually manage to steal a victory from us.

Many of these guys will be coming into this match still somewhat rusty and out of shape, so I'm approaching it with a relatively realistic mindset. Also, traditionally the NT doesn't fair so well in these pre-qualifying friendlies. Just look at Lippi's first stint when we lost 2-0 against the mighty Iceland for example.

At the same time, the fact that we're seeing such a drastic change being implimented by Prandelli is definitely very encouraging. I haven't been this excited for a new Azzurri era in quite some time.

Let's not get too far with this whole Amauri 'champion of the world' crap. I've seen him play a lot, and like most people on here say, he blows a lot of chances. I'll wait until Pazzi and Antonio play together in the national colors. I'm not a huge supporter of Amauri, we know why he 'picked' Italy. But he is a citizen of the country(immigration also happens in Europe:eek:), so I could really care less if he 'is or isnt' Italian. Looking forward to seeing this squad try to put something better and more exciting than what we have seen these past 4 years.

Gila will be back in Sept..........so it's Amauri vs. Borriello for the 2nd CF/ Prima Punta spot.

Unless of course Prandelli brings in Pazzini (despite their differences)

I am not really sure what all of the excitement around here is about. There is nothing in this roster to turn heads. I guess a lot of you expect the world from Cassano and Balotelli. I don't know why. The defense is inexperienced and I don't see anything from midfield. Let's hope DeRossi improves from his last match. He could not get worse.

People are getting excited because it represents a fresh start, which is something this NT has experienced in quite some time. You can downplay it as much as you want, but there is a lot of potential out there at Prandelli's disposal, and he seems ready and willing to make the most of it.

Yes, this backline is "inexperienced", but you can't gain experience unless you are given the opportunity to do so now can you? This is the purpose of friendly matches.

Secondly, anybody with common sense understands that this squad is by no means set in stone. You'd be rather ignorant to think that this midfield won't experience considerably changes over the next 2 years.

A lot of people though are excited by the names included in attack. This is by far the best group of forwards we've seen in quite some time, if we're gonna go based strictly on talent and quality. Once again, the potential is there, but now it's just a matter of getting these guys to gel.

Coming up with 20 some new names means nothing. This is not the baseball all-star game where fans get to vote on the players. Qualifying begins in a month. Luckily, we kick off against Estonia and Faroe Islands. Hopefully those matches will give the team a chance to gel. But to think this bunch of no-names will suddenly return gli Azzurri to greatness is unrealistic. And I have little faith in having three of the biggest individualists leading the attack changing anything.

Funny how as juve's influence over the national side shrinks, it brings out the haters and doubters from their tifosi. I cannot remember the last time we had 3 attackers like this on the pitch at the same time. Closest I think was late 80's early 90's with Baggio and Scilacci, and he came off the bench.

Well, we all know that having an attack comprised of "team players" like Gila, Iastinka, and Di Natale just worked magical wonders for us, right? ;)

This team of "no names" is an indication of something that Prandelli is willing to that Lippi never was: EXPIREMENT. Diamonds in the rough aren't found unless you are willing to look for them, which I am all for.

Let's see, projected to start on the back line are Motta, Bonucci, Chiellini and Molinaro. Then there is Pepe and Amauri. I count 5 Juventini and one ex among in that group. That does not include Marchisio on the second team. What was that about shrinking influence?

Experimenting sounds great until the team is in risk of not qualifying. The new blood that Lippi brought to South Africa failed miserably. I am not advocating for the old guard but our problem is that we have gotten very little from the new boys. So I am not as optimistic as some of you. My expectations are low and for good reason.

    Man that looks powerful....

I really like Pepe and SupMario position...

If Amauri start, that's the only position that fits his talent.

You've been thrust down the shaft of a 30 foot abandoned well. The fall has left you badly bruised and with a broken ankle. Concussion too. Yeah, concussion. Semi-conscious, you find yourself face down in 4 inches of muddy slop. Things are bad, to say the least. But suddenly, you lift your face out of the mud and begin to breathe something resembling oxygen. You're hardly out of the well, but at least you aren't face down in 4 inches of muddy slop.

This is literally the first thing that came into my head.

If Lippi brought Cassano and Balotelli to SA and left Cannavaro, Iaquinta, DiNatale, Zambrotta, and the rest of the old guard at home I think we would have fared a lot better and not have been the pathetic embaressment we were. Im not saying we would have won the cup but we would have at least gone to the 8th or 1/4 finals IMO. With this new influx of speed, attitude and ability to control the ball this team will be heads and shoulders above the crap we had in the confederations cup and SA. Add Pirlo to the midfiled and he will link Cassano, Balo and the attack beautifully ! THe defense is young, inexperienced and unknown to a smaller degree but they have 2 years to get experienced before the Euro! We'll be fine and like someone above said, when is the last time we had a trio of such talanted attackers all together? Lets have some faith ad support our guys! ;)

the one thing I do see is that these guys are happy and like one another and that is a HUGE part of being good teammates. Balotelli and Cassano especially seem to have an unspoken bond, look at the pics on Gazzetta they look natural together and if they click on the field I think they will really shut the haters up and drop some jaws. ALl the shinanigans with Balo getting red cards and Cassano doing crazy things will seize to exist once they play for one another and for their teammates rather than against the media, Lippi or any other enemy they may have. Have you guys ever seen Balotelli smile this much before?? He looks so happy and you know Cassano will keep his spirits high with his funny character.

much respect, agree 100%. For myself it has nothing to do with him not having Italian blood, it has to do with his ability.

Just like Falc said there are 6 Bianconeri on the roster, plus Molinaro and if I really want to get crazy Cassani is a Juventus product coming out of the youth system and Criscito should also be back (even though he is now 100% Genoa). So that argument is a complete dud and like many Juve fans do you really think I wanted Cannavaro, Grosso, Iaquinta, and Camoranesi on the 2010 roster? NO.... Juventus comes first for me, but after a dreadful season why would I have wanted those players on the Azzurri roster.....Im also not Marcello Lippi

I find it hilarious that you are using a handful of starting appearances and one tournament in order to conclude that these young guys just won't cut it. Secondly, what "new blood" even got a fair shot, aside from Marchisio, Criscito, and Marchetti (due to necessity)? These kids can only improve from that experience, and get better in the long run as a result from it. It's the general pessimism towards new blood (much like yours) that has slowed the progress of Italian football over the years.

Sorry to rain on the parade but this group of forwards is good; not world-class. It is no doubt better than what we had at the last World Cup, talent-wise; however, in Cassano we have a guy that has recently done well domestically with Samp, but let's not forget he was a failure with Real and how his Roma tenure ended. Balotelli is another head-case with talent; and the rest are solid to good, with no one really proven in terms of international football or high-level European club football.

This attack does not impress me as attacks that we've had as recent as the 2006 World Cup and is certainly not as good as say Spain's attack is currently.
