SK pulls a goal back. And then Pop hits the crossbar and then the SK player catches the ball in the box. Craziness. And Popp makes the PK.

I assume the SK player thought the ball had gone out but that was just wacky.

64' 4-1 #5 Kristina Gessat coughs it up to #10 Ji So Yun at 30m arc left. Ji dribbles straight upfield, rattles it through #19 Kim Kulig's legs, cuts right past #4 Marith Priessen at box top, into 13m, and banks it in off the right post 1/3 high.

completely bizarre. she just caught the ball about 2 feet inside the box.

Oh, and it's probably time for Germany to make a sub or two....

66' 4-1 A brainfart for the ages. #13 Sylvia Arnold carries to 24m center, passes diagonally left into the stride of #11 Alexandra Popp. From 15m, Popp drills a high shot off the crossbar left, and it pops high to 1m 6-right. Ball still live, and #2 Seo Hyun Sook(?) simply catches it to set it for a goal kick.

67' 5-1 #11 Alexandra Popp converts the PK low left (#1 Moon So Ri dove wrong) for her 9th goal

69' 5-1 #10 Dzsenifer Marozsan goes for a 50-50 high ball, and takes a forehead to her skull right back. She stays down until play stops.

70' 5-1 Germany subs in #2 Stefanie Mirlach for #6(c) Marina Hegering. Marozsan resumes.

I was actually in the stadium for a similar PK (Brasil 2-1 Italia at the 2008 Peace Queen Cup), but still taking my halftime nap under the big-ass FIFA tarp over the empty endline cheap seats.

83' 5-1 Germany hoofs a long cross toward 6-top mid-left. About five players jump for headers at 8m, and everybody misses. Ball drops untouched to #2 Stefanie Mirlach on 6-top slightly left, and she's totally not expecting it -- and it bounces off her right ankle and trickles harmlessly toward the right post, where #1 Moon So Ri collects. Germany did that twice, too :)

88' 5-1 #2 Stefanie Mirlach dribbles well up her back right sideline, looking like a giraffe amongst meerkats --

90' 5-1 In a game like this, it's almost a downer to not get subbed out, since one might take it as the coach saying, This other player is more important to me in the final --

90+2' (of 3') 5-1 Germany right corner. #9 Svenja Huth does an oddly hilarious sequence of cut-fakes, in which she momentarily gets behind the goalkeeper #1 Moon So Ri. The two post defenders are keeping her onside? ;)

Come to think of it -- it's a square pass, by construction :D

FIFA on-field interview kiosk, in Korean. (I don't understand it, but the cadence is quite familiar.)

Colombia and Nigeria are probably much weaker than the two Korean sides on most days, so the final could get ugly, if Germany again manages to score early. The last thing the tournament needs tough is a final with a score close to or even in the double-digits.

Nigeria already scored. No Colombian defender tracked the goal scorer after Nigeria sent a long ball into the box that the Colombian keeper didn't manage to tip over -- Nigerian player all alone to put the rebound in.

02' 0-1 #15 Joy Jegede chips a high forward ball from just past midfield right, bounces once untouched ahead of #8 Ebere Orji at 8m right post. #1 Paula Forero backpedals without conviction, leaps while falling backward, and palms the ball off the crossbar, and it drops softly to 3m center. Orji cannot believe her luck, settles alone and taps it in. Typical early-game hopeful long ball, and jackpot!!! Which reminds me: The first time I ever pressed my 12-year-old face to a seedy Las Vegas streetside casino's window, the tired couple at the $5 slot hit bar-bar-bar, and nearly had a health crisis of some sort as I watched ...

16' 0-1 Colombia free kick from 16m behind midfield left. Nigeria misses a header at 20m box right, allowing #15 Tatiana Ariza to run onto it deep in the right corner. #20 Osinachi Ohale demonstrates well-trained defensive posture: guards deep box (her) left with both hands clasped behind her back. Blocks T. Ariza's first cross, lets her go by and calmly slide-tackles it off her foot and over.

17' 0-1 Colombia right corner, curls to 6-top slightly right, pinged and deflects to #3 Natalia Gaitan momentarily open at 7m 6-left. Gaitan can't shoot first-touch, then takes too long to daintily settle the ball -- dribbles to 2m and has no angle, shot deflects through a wall across 5m center, and nobody can jump on it.
