Guys, you have to remember with any 23 man squad it's not uncommon for the same 11 to play every match unless someone is injured.
If thats the case, what was the point of putting in Ahn? Its fair enough that not all 23 players were going to play. That means, having Suk or any other player instead of Ahn (a 34 year old striker who have already played in two WC) would have been better. In the lead-up to the WC, Ahn showed nothing. His merit in the place was because of past records. Others have shown more or less good reasons to be in the place. Anyway, Suk was not the one i wanted in the place, it was Lee Keun Ho. He had good enough reasons to be in the team. For crying out loud, i been trying to tell you folks these four strikers should have been in the squad: LKH, PCY, LDG and LSR. (sigh) its too late now. I still cant believe people thought Ahn would have done something for us...
That's a very good question. I don't know what was going through Huh's head if what we discovered later to be true, Ahn was unfit to play. Huh definitely made some strange personnel choices, in retrospect.
hindsight is always 20/20. its just not the norm to allow teenagers with little to no international experience join a senior WC squad. Suk obviously has potential...but thats all for now, POTENTIAL. let him grow and hopefully he will be in Brazil in 2014. I knew Suk had some sort of cult following but the reaction he got from the Dutch crowd was amazing. goosebumps
ahn, i'm not too upset about. at least he has 'good luck' at world cups scoring goals. the world cup can be very superstitious and in that regard, managers should try to stay away from notoriously bad luck players like lee dong gook. he should have taken his chances with at least son or suk. i'm still convinced lee keunho would have been better. its good to have a young wildcard out there and surprise all of us. those are the types of worldcup stories people want to see. its a gamble worth taking. playing lee dong gook was not one of those gambles.
Neither Lee GH nor Suk were good enough to be starters, nor were they considered as good subs who could make impacts late in the game - that was the theory, I think, but with Huh insisting on using Park CY and Yeom it wouldn't really have mattered who else were picked. And enough of Suk, please - he was never considered seriously, especially when players like Kim Yeong-hoo and Yoo Byeong-soo were being overlooked. The kid scores some goals in the Dutch reserve league and suddenly he's one of the best Korea can offer? Come on.
lol this reminds of when I was playing basketball with some Koreans. This Korean guy made a nasty block on this white guy and some black guy was going crazy over it. we were playing pickup and my black friends were like: "The guy makes one block and that n*gga thinks hes the future." i wonder how Suk would do in K-League
Unfortunately, we're going to see these responses every time he scores in a pre-season friendly... ...or against 18-year old defenders in the reserves.
Suk might have been overrated by most of us here but I think the future of our strike force is Son Heung Min. The guy is seriously the total package.
haven seen much of son besides the highlights from recently so i cant say if hes the total package imo. i think the fact that both suk and son are playing in prestigious clubs already makes them 1 step ahead of any k-league player out there.
I do like how both are far more direct than in the attack. Hopefully they gain that European attacking mentality from Van Nistelrooy or Suarez. I'm unclear, particularly for Suk, if they have the sense of space and angles necessary to raise their game to the next level, but they are young still and appear to be playing hard.
I think that he meant as in 'one step' ahead of any K-leaguers from the view that they get more respect for playing in Europe. E.g. Most people around the world would know a korean player playing in Europe than someone who plays in Korea. Of course, it would not always mean that they are better than all k-league players, just the fact they play in Europe gives you this sense of...aroma. You know.
thats what i mean. i havent seen these guys play much at all but the fact that theyre playing in some high level clubs in europe puts them up in the pedestal. im not talking about skill but talking about reputation and what not. but i guess potential and skill is what got them into the team anyways?
Yep and its not an easy thing to get into a European team, especially any top leagues (Eredivise, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, etc.) if your not from that country or Europe. But the funny thing is Suk. We all know that he went to Jol's doorsteps and literally ask to be given a trial. That is one crazy thing to do, and it tells you how much of a gut this guy has. So when people say "he is overrated' or "overhyped', i say at the moment he deserves to have all the hype to become a future star because he has shown he can be something already.
What most people around the world think about these players mean nothing, lol. This is a matter of who's better.
Exactly. This is a thread about the glory of Suk. Not about who is the best forward option for South Korea in the future.
Seeing as how turtles have not yet gone extinct, I'd say Suk likes turtles. Or at the very least permits their continued existence.
